RIO DE JANEIRO -- With the late-afternoon sun shining on his shaved head and the round mountains of Rio de Janeiro behind him, Dorian van Rijsselberghe of the Netherlands stood in his coachs boat, smiled and flashed the hang loose sign with each hand.Van Rijsselberghe had just clinched his second straight Olympic gold medal in windsurfing. He still has to sail in the medals race on Sunday. Barring some kind of disqualification, itll merely be a victory lap before he collects his medal on the podium on Flamengo Beach, with Sugarloaf Mountain as a backdrop. For the second straight Olympics, he made it look easy.Man, can this Dutchman fly across the waves. Its unreal. I did it in London and I never expected it to happen again, said the 27-year-old van Rijsselberghe, who spends considerable time living and training in the Southern California sunshine. That it did happen again is just unreal.Britains Nick Dempsey clinched the silver. Its a repeat of the top two spots in London. The Dutchman and Briton congratulated each other after the 12th race of the series ended on the Atlantic Ocean.Van Rijsselberghe had finishes of first, first and sixth -- his lowest of the regatta -- for 23 points. Dempsey went 5-7-8 for 44 points. The bronze medal will be decided Sunday.Dempsey won three of the first four races to lead the first two days. Van Rijsselberghe won the third race and then took over, winning six of the final eight races.I was very fortunate that Nick went off like a cannon the first couple of races, because it really showed me, OK, its not going to be easy, van Rijsselberghe said. We never thought it was going to be easy, but he showed me that if you really want this, youll have to work for it. I tried, I worked for it, and I got it.Van Rijsselberghe spends considerable time in Laguna Beach, California, with his wife, Sasha, and their young daughter. The winds better in Newport, a little bit further up, and especially Long Beach, he said. The lifestyle is amazing there. The people are nice, theres mountain biking, surfing, good food, healthy. Sunshine. I like the sunshine.Van Rijsselberghe shaved his head for the second straight Olympics. Its a great excuse at the games, so my wife will allow it, he said.Does it make him go faster? No, not really, he said. Its a nice feeling. I like it. But not all the time. There were other big developments all over the bboat basin. Brandon Jones Jersey Store. Evi Van Acker of Belgium, the first competitor to report falling ill during the games from sailing on polluted Guanabara Bay, had finishes of 12th and second as the Laser Radials returned after a day off. The defending bronze medalist, she jumped from 10th overall to seventh.Im doing better than two days ago, she said. I think I had a good day off yesterday. I was able to rest up and get some more energy. Today I had a 12th and a second so I gained some places in the overall ranking so Im pretty happy with that. Also, the conditions were a little bit lighter and not as physical as two days ago so that was good for me.Her coach believes Van Acker contracted a severe intestinal infection while training in Rio de Janeiro last month. In the mens Laser, 43-year-old Robert Scheidt went 4-5 to put himself solidly in podium position with two races to sail before the medals races. The Kiwis won the silver medal in London and then won 27 straight regattas before losing to the 2012 gold medalists, Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen of Australia, last month in the South American Championships. The Aussies had a rough opener, going 13-8 for 11th place. We havent lost the event but we definitely havent set the world on fire, said Outteridge, who also is helmsman of Swedens Artemis Racing in the Americas Cup. `It was a fine day, but were obviously looking to do better.Torben Graels son, Marco, and his crew, Gabriel Borges, are 12th.---Follow Bernie Wilson on Twitter at http://twitter.com/berniewilson ' ' '

    • FOR AS LONG as I can remember, I have loved the game of basketball. Larry Johnson Super Bowl Jersey . It has been a therapeutic tool for every difficult situation Ive encountered. Basketball was light on a dark day and a friend when I felt lonely. My freshman year of high school, I made the school basketball team. I practiced for hours every day to improve my skills. One day while playing, I was accidentally hit by a teammate. Thinking that I might have pulled my groin, I kept on playing. The pain increased until I realized something was not right. I decided to tell my mother. She took me to the local emergency room, where the doctor discovered two tumors on an ultrasound. Within a few days, I had a cancer diagnosis. I will never forget the day I was told I had this awful disease.Soon after my diagnosis, I started a journey I never thought possible. It included surgery and chemotherapy. Chemotherapy made me feel as if I were not myself. I could not do any of the things that were natural daily activities. I couldnt walk, run, eat or get out of bed without assistance. That was the lowest point of my life, physically and mentally. I would think to myself, You just have to make it through today. Just worry about today. I feared that I wouldnt wake up to see a new day. I felt as if I were dying. Two Make-A-Wish Georgia volunteers came to my house to talk to me. I shared my story and my passion for basketball. I shared my love for the Miami Heat and my favorite player, LeBron James.I had my mind set on only one wish: to meet LeBron James and the Miami Heat. It was a long shot, but that was my only dream and true wish. Make-A-Wish Georgia contacted us often to assure us that they were doing everything possible to grant my seemingly impossible request. After patiently waiting, the day finally arrived. As I entered my house, I was surprised to find an ESPN TV crew. Two Miami Heat dancers greeted me at the door and handed me a CD. I put the disc into the player and was amazed to see LeBron James inviting my family to fly to Miami. My excitement could not be contained. My family and I flew to Miami. At the American Airlines Arena, I toured the locker rooms and training facility. We watched live practice. I had to pinch myself as I watched LeBron shooting baskets a few feet from me.After practice, head coach Erik Spoelstra called my name. I ran to the team huddle and met the players. Then LeBron invited me for some one-on-one playing time. For more than an hour, my favorite sports figure and I played basketball together. We talked about my high school and my basketball team. I asked him questions and threw alley-oops to him, and we had a 3-point contest. Later, LeBron presented me with several gifts to remember our time together. The next day, I was courtside watching a game next to the Miami Heat bench and cheering my team on. I was able to greet the players as they left and returned to the bench throughout the game.As if everything I had experienced were not enough, LeBron came over and presented me with his game shoes and autographed them for me after the game.A few weeks later, the Heat won the NBA championship and invited me to join them for their celebration. This was the wish that kept on giving. I will never forget that weekend. Not only was it an amazing experience to play my favorite game with the NBA Champions, but also it was closure from the most horrible time of my life.During my treatment, I constantly asked my mother, Why me? Why did I get cancer? After that incredible weekend in Miami, I found myself asking, Why me? What did I do to deserve such an amazing gift?Make-A-Wish Georgia truly changed my life. I am and will forever be grateful for the way they transformed my lifes worst experience and turned it around to become one of my most cherished memories. Tony Gonzalez Super Bowl Jersey . • LONDON -- After a bad loss, Heather Watson sometimes punishes herself by reading hateful comments posted on Twitter. Anthony Sherman Super Bowl Jersey .Watson, who lost in the first round at Wimbledon on Thursday, said she goes on social media to read some of the nasty things people write about her as a means of punishing herself.Theres always going to be people saying stuff, said Watson, who lost to Annika Beck of Germany 3-6, 6-0, 12-10 in a match that took two days to complete because of rain. It comes with it. Youve just got to deal with it.Theyre not brave enough to say it in person. Thats why they hide behind a computer.Watson has been one of Britains top female players for the past few years. She has twice reached the third round at Wimbledon, including last year, as she tries to become the first British woman to win the title at the All England Club since Virginia Wade in 1977.Watson also admonished those who say bad things to her because they may have lost money betting on her to win.I dont know why they bet on us because our results are all over the place, Watson said. First of all, thats not very smart from them. Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl Jersey . -- Josh Sterk scored once and set up two more as the Oshawa Generals edged the visiting Belleville Bulls 3-2 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action. Eric Fisher Super Bowl Jersey . The USA Cricket Association has announced over the weekend that it has offered central contracts to four players and intends to offer up to 20 more contracts in the next two to three months. The declarations were made by USACA president Gladstone Dainty and former USA coach Robin Singh during a series of speeches and presentations made at the USACA T20 National Championship in Florida this weekend.USA captain Steven Taylor, allrounders Timroy Allen and Timil Patel, and Trinbago Knight Riders batsman William Perkins were the first four players offered central contracts by the USACA. Dainty stated in a speech to the players on November 19 that the contracts were worth $48,000. It is not known if any of the players has accepted the offer yet but according to multiple sources, USAs players were advised by ICC Americas officials last month to decline any offer made by USACA after rumours of potential contract offers had circulated. A battle for control of the selection process for USA national teams is not unprecedented. In 2005, a dispute over USA squad selections between USACA and the Council of League Presidents resulted in USA being kicked out of the Intercontinental Cup and replaced by Cayman Islands. USACA was suspended soon after, the first of three administrative suspensions over the course of the next decade. In September, ICC Americas staff, currently administering USA cricket in a caretaker role, hired former Sri Lanka Test cricketer Pubudu Dassanayake as the new USA coach ahead of WCL Division Four in Los Angeles, which USA won to gain promotion to Division Three. Robin last coached a USA side at 2014 ICC WCL Division Three in Malaysia, when USA finished fifth and were relegated to Division Four, but he is still listed on the USACA web site as their mens national coach. However, under USACAs current suspension, the ICC has made clear that it has assumed complete control over USAs operational affairs including national-team selection. Dassanayake is expected to continue leading USAs preparation for Division Three in Uganda next year. USACA has until December 15 to ratify a new constitution that has been approved by the ICC. Failure to do so may see a resolution put forth by December 31 leadiing to USACAs potential expulsion as an Associate Member at the next ICC Annual Conference in June 2017. Breeland Speaks Super Bowl Jersey. In a speech delivered on Sunday, Robin said he had put together a list of players from which 20 would receive USACA contracts in early 2017. Robin emphasised that the contracts were made possible by the $70 million investment deal announced last month between USACA and Philadelphia businessman Jay Pandya, who was subsequently announced as the new owner of the CPL franchise St Lucia Zouks. Were going to consider all of these people going forward to give contracts, Robin said after the list of 29 additional names for consideration was unveiled. Hopefully in the next year or two, we want to actually give out about 20 professional contracts and we want to make it as clear as possible. We want to make sure people are actually committed to the game. Ill put out a list of commitments and requirements that I expect, and theres going to be some very tough lines. The USACA list of 33 players differs in notable ways from the 30-man national squad announced by ICC Americas evaluators in July. Among those that have been included in the USACA list of potential contract recipients are several players with first-class experience overseas including former India U-19 and Mumbai medium pacer Saurabh Netravalkar, Carlitos Lopez and Roy Silva. The only players who were part of USAs Division Four and Auty Cup squads from October not included in USACAs proposed contract list are Srini Santhanam, Hammad Shahid and Abdullah Syed.In the next three months, were going to make sure there are a lot of games played, Robin said. Its not only for the people who are on this list. I will call people outside the box and I think its necessary. If people are injured, or not available, or not honest enough, we will remove them from the list because its not my money. We are playing with other peoples money here and I think [Pandya] has made a serious commitment to take the game forward in this part of the world, and I think, as cricketers, you owe it to yourself to give yourself the best chance. • SOUTH BEND, Ind. J. T. Gray Jersey . -- Twelfth-ranked Michigan State didnt panic when No. 18 Notre Dame scored three straight touchdowns to cut a 29-point lead to 36-28 with just over six minutes left. The Irish didnt get any closer after Kizer was sacked for a 5-yard loss by Raequan Williams on third-and-2 and Notre Dame punted with 3:37 left in the game and the Spartans (2-0) ran out the clock.I thought our guys played very confidently, Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said. Im not sure at the end if their coach was confident, totally. But we found a way and our guys kept playing.Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said the Irish would have had a chance if not for missed tackles, a problem thats plagued them in both losses this season. We had great situation there late to make a couple tackles, and we just simply didnt make it, he said.Tyler OConnor, a fifth-year senior making his third career start, was 19 of 26 passing for 241 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on a deflected pass. He said beating the Irish, the team he grew up cheering for was a dream come true.I didnt even dream about it, it was so surreal, to come in here and play and start in a game, and then take a knee in Notre Dame Stadium, and throw up your hands and realize youve won. Its a tremendous feeling, he said.Gerald Holmes ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns, including a 73-yard score, saying he was inspired by the death of his grandmother.I was in the middle of meetings and I broke out in tears and ran out. But I knew I had a game today and I got the motivation from her to come out here and ball, he said.He credited the offensive line for his big run. They probably blocked the best they ever have since Ive been here, he said.Dantonio said he couldnt recall the last time the Spartans dominated as they had late in the second quarter and early in the third. It got tougher and tougher in the fourth quarter running the football. ... They kept playing and fought their way back into the football game right there at the end.Kelly said the mistakes were too much.We got too far behind. When you get into that kind of hole its hard to dig out of, he said.POLL IMPLICATIONSMICHIGAN STATE: The Spartans record streak of being ranked will stretch to 45 straight weeks, dating back to Oct. 27, 2013 with the win over the Irish and they are likely to move up in the AP poll.NOTRE DAME: With two losses in the first three games for the first time since 2011, the Irish could fall out of the poll for the first time since the end of the 2014 season.THE TAKEAWAYMICHIGAN STATE: Michigan States offense showed there was no need for concern after an unimpressive opening-game victory over FCS Furman, beating Notre Dame to end a three-game losing streak to the Irish. Good pressure by Michigan States front seven and good coverage by the secondary kept Kizer scrambling at times and the Irish couldnt get their running game going.NOTRE DAME: Mistakes hurt the Irish from the start, with an opening kickoff return for a touchdown by C.J. Sanders being called back on a holding penalty by Jalen Elliott. A bouncing punt hit Notre Dames Miles Boykins and was recovered by Michigan State long snapper Collin Caflisch at the Notre Dame 38 early, and Sanders fumbled at the end of 19-yard catch that Michigan State linebacker Jon Reschke recovered. Fans booed Notre Dame with 5 minutes left in the third quarter following a pair of runs for no gain.UP NEXTMICHIGAN STATE: The Spartans begin Big Ten play hosting Wisconsin, which they havent faced since a 16-13 overtime victory in 2012 to end the Badgers 21-game home winning streak.NOTRE DAME: The Irish begin a stretch of three straight games against Atlantic Coast Conference teams, which Notre Dame is a member in for most sports aside from football, when it plays Duke. Nate Schierholtz opened the 11th with a drag bunt off Oliver Perez (2-2). Soriano then connected on a 1-2 pitch over the centre-field wall, his ninth. That ended a 14-game scoreless streak for Perez. The Mariners had tied the game with two outs in the ninth. Pinch-hitter Henry Blanco earned a one-out walk off Kevin Gregg to start the rally. Michael Saunders ran for him. Nick Franklin moved Saunders to second with a right-side groundout. Endy Chavez, on a 0-for-19 slide entering his at-bat, sliced a single into shallow centre, scoring Saunders with the tying run. Gregg had been a perfect 13 for 13 in save opportunities this season. His last blown save was Sept. 10, 2011, while with Baltimore at Toronto. Carlos Villanueva (2-4) earned the win with one inning of relief. Blake Parker finished the 11th for his first career save. He had been the losing pitcher in Fridays 5-4 loss in 10 innings. Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija allowed six hits and two runs over his seven innings. He struck out five and walked three. Aaron Harang worked eight innings for the Mariners, allowing three runs on five hits. In three starts against National League teams this season, Harang is 1-2 with a 1.96 ERA. By contrast, he is 2-6 with a 6.52 ERA in starts against American League teams. Starlin Castro also had a home run for the Cubs and Justin Smoak hit one for the Mariners. Mariners centre fielder Dustin Ackley had to leave the game in the ninth after a diving attempt of a flyball by Soriano. He was diagnosed with sprained left thumb and received precautionary X-rays. Jason Bay, who had entered as a pinch runner in the eighth, moved to centre as the Mariners, hampered with injuries, used up all their bench players and were forced to give up their designated hitter. Left-hander Joe Saunders had to hit in the games finall at-bat. Mike McGlinchey Super Bowl Jersey. . He flied out to centre. Castro put the Cubs up in the first with his solo home run to centre. It was his fourth, coming on a 0-1 pitch from Harang. It was his first home run since April 30 against San Diego. The Cubs have hit at least one home run in a season-high nine straight games. The Mariners responded with two in the second. Smoak connected on his sixth home run, a 383-foot shot to right on the first pitch from Samardzija. Mike Zunino then doubled off the left-field wall. He scored on Ackleys single to left. That broke his 0-for-23 slide. The Cubs bounded ahead again in the sixth with a pair of runs. Schierholtz and Soriano each had RBI singles. The Mariners were foiled in the eighth. With one out, Kendrys Morales singled and Bay ran for him. Bay broke for second as reliever James Russell tossed over to first and Bay was caught stealing. Raul Ibanez continued the inning with a two-out double to left. Smoak followed with a single to left that was too hard. Left-fielder Brian Bogusevic scooped up the ball and threw to the catcher Welington Castillo, who tagged out the sliding Ibanez. NOTES: Finishing games have been a problem for the Cubs. They are 26-9 when leading after seven and 28-6 when leading after eight. Seattle, by contrast, is 30-1 when leading after seven and 30-2 when leading after eight. "Its been tough all year to get those outs, whether its the eighth or ninth inning, especially after leading so many games after seven innings," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "We have to make pitches and get people out in those situations." The Cubs have lost 24 games in which theyve had the lead at some point, tied for most in the majors. . Ryan Sweeney left the game in the fourth inning with left rib soreness. . It was a Turn Back the Clock game. The Mariners wore the uniform of the 1909 Seattle Turks, who won a Northwest League championship. The Cubs wore early 1900s replicas. ' ' '

Coach Tom Thibodeau says the former MVP will probably start travelling with the team in the next few weeks. SAN FRANCISCO -- Madison Bumgarner has rediscovered his winning ways. Now he just needs to find his winning form. With a showdown looming Monday with Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, Bumgarner gets a tune-up against a team he has dominated, the San Diego Padres, in the finale of a three-game series Wednesday. The Giants (77-67) will enter the afternoon affair in desperation mode. They suffered consecutive losses to the Padres to open the three-game series, including a gut-wrencher when San Diego rallied for five runs in the ninth inning Tuesday for a 6-4 triumph. The late turnaround prevented the Giants from gaining a game on the Dodgers (81-63) in the National League West. Instead, San Francisco lost a game to both the New York Mets (77-68) and St. Louis Cardinals (76-68) in the wild-card race.Where San Francisco will stand when it arrives in Los Angeles on Monday will depend on Bumgarners outing against the Padres, then a critical four-game home series against the Cardinals that begins on Thursday. The Cardinals (76-68) could tie the Giants in the wild-card standings with a win Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs and a third straight San Francisco loss to the Padres. We just have to put this one behind us, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of Tuesdays debacle. That was tough. Like a punch in the stomach. The Giants chances of catching the Dodgers and/or holding off the Cardinals hinge on the left arm of Bumgarner, who on Aug. 7 saw his record fall to 10-7 with his fifth consecutive non-winning effort. But the 2014 World Series Most Valuable Player has rebounded to win four of his last six starts, improving his record to 14-8 along the way.Whilee he has gone 3-1 in his last five outings, however, Bumgarner has been anything but dominant. Yeezy 350 V2 2020 Pas Cher. He has allowed 18 runs and 31 hits in those 29 innings.Fortunately for Bumgarner, a visit by the Padres gives him an opportunity to shape up before the meeting with Kershaw.Bumgarner hasnt lost in San Diegos last four trips at AT&T Park in San Francisco, allowing just four runs in 30 1/3 innings (1.19 ERA) while going 3-0.A win Wednesday not only would help the Giants but would give the left-hander a small piece of franchise history.Bumgarner will be seeking his 100th career win as a Giant. If it happens, at age 27, he would become the third-youngest Giant ever to reach the milestone.Bumgarner will be opposed by Padres right-hander Luis Perdomo, who has been unimpressive against the Giants in three meetings this season. The right-hander started the Padres 7-6 home win over the Giants on July 16, but he didnt stick around long enough to pick up the win. He was roughed up for three runs and eight hits over 4 2/3 innings.Perdomo will be backed this time around by a high-flying group that celebrated Tuesdays win by showering offensive star Ryan Schimpf and winning pitcher Jake Smith with shaving cream in a jubilant locker room.Smith recorded his first major-league win thanks to Schimpfs two-out, two-strike, three-run home run in the ninth inning.Schimpfy did all the work. All I did was throw up a zero, said Smith, who pitched a scoreless eighth inning to keep the Padres within 4-1. This was everything I dreamed of. ' ' '

    • MOSCOW -- For their honeymoon, Mr. Shawne Merriman Jersey Retro . and Mrs. Eaton went to Russia. Once there, the first couple of multi-events turned the world championships into the Newlywed Game, complimenting their new wedding rings with a pair of shiny medals. Not quite matching, but that hardly mattered to Canadas Brianne Theisen Eaton, who picked up the silver medal in the heptathlon on Tuesday night. This after watching her husband of all of one month, Ashton Eaton, capture gold in the decathlon two days earlier. Not to mention watching him claim the Olympic title in London. Finally, it was her turn to shine. "Ive always watched him get his medals and think, I wonder what that feels like?" said Theisen Eaton, who finished 56 points behind winner Ganna Melnichenko of Ukraine. "Now Im getting a little taste of it." The Eatons went to the University of Oregon together and were married on July 13. Since then, theyve been planning for this big adventure, postponing any thought of a honeymoon. "The perfect time to go lay on the beach," Theisen Eaton said. "But if we did that, Id just shut my eyes and in 10 minutes he would go, How much longer are we going to lay here? Lets go play volleyball or something. He cant sit around too long." He was squirming in the stands, too, trying to encourage his wife to a gold medal. She could hear his motivating words even through the noise of the crowd cheering on local favourite Yelena Isinbayeva in the pole vault. After the final event, the 800, he took a backseat. "He said, Good job. Enjoy your victory lap," Theisen Eaton said. "He just wanted me to have my moment." Soaking up the scene was their coach, Harry Marra. He means so much to the couple they had Marra serve as the pastor at the wedding. They mean so much to him that he couldnt stop beaming or bragging. "Two great kids," Marra said. Usually, Ashton Eaton is so unflappable. Even when he was setting his world record in the rain last June in Eugene, Oregon, he hardly seemed nervous. Only once has Marra ever seen Eaton rattled -- when he placed the ring on Theisen Eatons finger. "As cool as a cucumber as he is, at that part of the wedding, and he will probably get ticked off I said this ... I looked and Ashton was (shaking)," Marra said. "Somebody shoot video, because Ashton Eaton is shaking. He never shakes." Not even when a javelin thrown by his wife buzzes by his face. Eaton was training in California four months ago when he went out to collect his two javelins from the throwing area. She was still working with Marra and had one toss left. Eaton was about 15 metres (50 feet) to the left of her when he heard his name being screamed. A flash went right by his right shoulder. "I was thinking, All right, how are we going to rehab that? I figured its going right through his shoulder," Marra said. "She screamed bloody murder at the top of her lungs." It worked. Eaton dodged the javelin but ended up a scratch on his face. "He came over and was like, Im fine," Theisen Eaton recounted. "I looked at him and I was like, Did I hit you? Nolasco struck out 11 and the Marlins stopped a season-high seven-game losing streak, holding off the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 Sunday. "Weve been playing close games, but it doesnt matter if you lose 10-0 or 2-1, you dont want to lose so it was good to snap that and try to get on a roll here," Nolasco said. "Bend, but dont break, thats all that matters," Nolasco said. Marcell Ozuna broke a scoreless tie with a two-run double in the sixth. Didi Gregorius had three hits for Arizona, which had won four in a row. "Early in the game we had a few chances, but we couldnt get the big hit when we needed it and (Nolasco) got stronger," Gregorius said. Nolasco (3-5) was coming off an outing in which he allowed six runs in five innings in a loss to Cincinnati on Tuesday. "Ricky was great," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "Coming off a shaky last start, but thats Ricky. Rickys been solid all year and I really wanted him to finish that game. He looked good and was in complete control." But the Marlins all-time wins leader bounced back with his best, earning his 79th career victory. He gave up one run and five hits in eight-plus innings. The only other areas where UNCA was able to keep up with Georgia were in the lane, where it posted 22 points in the paint compared to Georgias 24, and in the turnover department, where UNCA recorded 11 to Georgias 17 and posted 13 points off its opponents miscues.I was really happy with the way we took care of the basketball, certainly when looking at the turnover margin, UNCA coach Nick McDevitt said. I was really happy with our ability to take care of the ball and how hard we were playing. We just couldnt get anything to fall. Some of them were ill-advised shots, but for the most part, I thought we were taking open looks by guys that can shoot the basketball.Georgia cleared its bench by games end, with seven of 14 players reaching the scoring column, including freshman Jordan Harris, whose first collegiate shot attempt was a 3-pointer in the second half.BIG PICTUREGeorgia: After falling in their season opener Friday night at Clemson, Georgia bounces back with a decisive victory over UNCAUNCA: The Bulldogs are still looking for their first win of the season after losing back to back games.AUGUST COMPANYFrazier is the 47th Georgia player to hit 1,000 points and is the sixth player under Mark Fox to reach the mark, joining Charles Mann (1,411 points), Trey Thompkins (1,396), Kenny Gaines (1,324), Nemi Djurisic (1,123), Travis Leslie (1,099) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (1,013).QUOTABLEWe have to see how it evolves. Urine specimen contains benzoylecgonine. The reason that the results of the Sept. 21 urine test came to light after the results for the Sept. 22 test are because of variations in the shipping time it took for the samples to be sent from England, where they were collected, to a laboratory for analysis at UCLA in Los Angeles followed by the time needed to conduct the tests.VADA, which Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) and Klitschko (64-4, 54 KOs) hired to oversee the drug testing in the lead up to the rematch, explained that in the letter. Please also note that -- due to varying shipping times -- laboratory results for earlier specimen collections may not be available until after the results of subsequent collections in some instances, the letter said. Mr. Fury has the right to promptly request analysis of the B sample at his expense. Please be aware that VADA does not adjudicate results nor determine whether sanctions are appropriate. He allowed three runs on six hits in five innings that day.He started a game for the Pirates at AT&T Park in San Francisco earlier that season, limiting the Giants to two runs on eight hits over six innings in a 4-2 win.He did not get a decision in that game, and has gone 0-1 with a 5.74 ERA in four career appearances (three starts) against the Giants.Vogelsong went 48-49 with a 3.93 ERA over two stints with the Giants that covered all or parts of seven seasons. He started 132 games for San Francisco.Hes never a foe; hes someone were competing against, Giants right fielder Hunter Pence said of his former teammate. Ill always be a fan of Ryan Vogelsong. You enjoy competing with him, and youre grateful for the honor to compete against him.The right-hander will be making his third start (fifth appearance) this season for the Pirates. Hes gone 1-2 with a 2.67 ERA, which would be a career-low if he were able to finish the season with it.Vogelsong recorded his best season ERA as a Giant in 2011, when he made the NL All-Star team en route to a 13-7 record and 2.71 ERA.He has pitched well for the Pirates since joining the starting rotation in August following the clubs trade of Francisco Liriano to the Toronto Blue Jays. Hes allowed just one earned run in 12 innings against Atlanta and San Diego, although the Pirates lost both games, 5-2 to the Braves and 4-0 to the Padres. Its no secret that I feel more comfortable (starting), said Vogelsong, who has been used both as a starter and a reliever by the Giants and Pirates in his career. For some reason, when I start, I feel like my stuff is better. The Pirates flew to San Francisco on Sunday night on the heels of taking two of three from the Giants NL West rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers.Like Vogelsong, the Giants Moore has been the victim of a scarcity of run support. He has yet to record a win for San Francisco in two starts since the trade despite allowing a total of just four runs on six hits in 12 innings at Philadelphia and Miami. The Giants have split those games, beating the Phillies 3-2 and losing to the Marlins 2-0. Moore received a no-decision and a loss in those games. The 27-year-old will be making his AT&T park debut Monday, and will be facing the Pirates for the first time in his six-year career. The Giants are coming off a stunning, 8-7 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, a game San Francisco led 7-1 in the seventh inning. Brett Favre Super Bowl Jersey . AUSTIN, Texas -- For the second time in four years, a top University of Texas track coach is being investigated by school officials for alleged misconduct.Longhorns head track coach Mario Sategna, who took indefinite personal leave last month, is the subject of an ethics and misconduct probe, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.University of Texas System officials confirmed the investigation in a letter to the state attorney general. University officials are seeking permission to withhold Sategnas personnel file and other documents sought by the AP under the Texas Public Information Act.Those records relate to an ongoing compliance investigation involving personnel matters being conducted by the universitys legal affairs office and the athletic department, system officials wrote Oct. 7.The university initiated the investigation in response to allegations of misconduct. The issues under review pertain to ethical questions and the standard of conduct relating to a university employee. The nature of the alleged misconduct was not clear. Texas spokesman Gary Susswein said the school will not release details of the investigation but said it does not involve NCAA compliance or federal Title IX gender discrimination issues. As a policy, the university does not discuss personnel matters or release information that would compromise ongoing reviews, Texas said. The 43-year-old Sategna has not responded to repeated requests for ccomment. Corey Linsley Super Bowl Jersey. University of Texas officials are still fighting a lengthy legal battle with former womens head track coach Bev Kearney. Kearney was forced out in 2013 after the school learned shed had a romantic relationship with one of her runners a decade earlier. Kearney has said the relationship was consensual and is suing the university for race and gender discrimination, arguing that male coaches who faced similar allegations in the past were allowed to remain on staff.Sategna took over the mens and womens programs in 2013, and his teams won Big 12 titles in 2015. He also was an assistant throwing coach with the U.S. track team at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where former Longhorns Ryan Crouser and Michelle Carter both won gold in the shot put.According to documents obtained by AP, Sategna emailed mens athletic director Mike Perrin and womens athletic director Chris Plonsky on Sept. 6 to tell them he could not be at a campus event the next day because he had to attend the Big 12 track coaches meeting in Dallas. On Sept. 11, university officials told staff and Sategnas team that the coach had requested personal leave, leaving associate head coach Tonja Buford-Bailey and assistant coach Ty Sevin in charge. It was not clear if Sategna requested the leave before or after the investigation began. ' ' '

    • Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork. Tony Richardson Jersey .com) - Zach Randolph posted 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 103-92 victory over the reeling Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center. Randolph finished 8-of-11 from the field, while Courtney Lee went 7-of-10 in an 18-point effort that helped extend the Nets season-long losing streak to seven games. Marc Gasol also scored 18 points while pulling down eight rebounds for the Grizzlies. Mason Plumlee paced Brooklyn with 15 points and nine rebounds, with Mirza Teletovic going 4-of-7 from 3-point range to record 12 points in defeat. The game marked the first meeting between Nets head coach Lionel Hollins and the Grizzlies team he directed for parts of seven seasons before being let go after the 2012-13 campaign. Hollins is the Grizzlies all-time leader with 214 wins. It was different going against your old coach, Randolph remarked. (Weve) been through a lot. Made history together, did stuff together in Memphis, turned the franchise around, so it was nice to see him out there. After closing out the first half on a 7-0 run to take a 51-45 lead into the break, the Grizzlies put together a strong third quarter to move further in front. Gasols 3-point play ignited a 10-0 stretch that had Memphis up comfortably at 66-49 just over five minutes into the period, and the Grizzlies were ahead by as much as 19 points before entering the fourth holding an 82-65 advantage. Memphis maintained a double-digit cushion throughout the final frame, with the Nets smallest deficit a 102-92 differential in the last minute. We just couldnt score consistently, Hollins said. Theyre a very good defensive team, a very good rebounding team. Thats why theyre one of the best teams in the league. Memphis opened up an 11-point lead in the first quarter behind Lees hot shooting, with the one-time Net burying a trio of treys and tallying 11 points to spark a 15-5 surge that staked the Grizzlies to a 30-19 advantage late in the period. The Nets overcame the deficit by putting together a 14-2 spurt, capped by back-to-back 3-pointers from Alan Anderson and Teletovic, early in the second quarter to own a 38-36 edge. Game Notes Brooklyn played without forward Kevin Garnett, serving a one-game suspension for head-butting Dwight Howard in the Nets loss to Houston on Monday ... Jeff Green, traded to Memphis from Boston in a three-team deal on Monday, had 10 points off the bench in his Grizzlies debut ... Brooklyn finished 10-of-26 on 3-point attempts while the Grizzlies were just 3-of-17 from beyond the arc. Stefen Wisniewski Jersey . Goodell says he had fun watching the game Sunday and thinks fans did, too. Sherrill Headrick Jersey . -- Pelicans coach Monty Williams does not expect guard Eric Gordon to play in any of New Orleans final five games this season. ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Roberto Luongo was a lot better in Minnesota than hed been in the past. Still, he wasnt quite good enough to extend Vancouvers seven-game winning streak. Jason Pominville slipped a shot past Luongos glove in the third round of a shootout to lift the Wild to a 3-2 victory Tuesday night, the first loss by the Canucks this month. Luongo made 30 saves, including 14 in the third period and overtime, and stopped Zach Parise to open the shootout. Mikko Koivu, who had two assists for a team-high 20 this season, hit the crossbar with his shot before Pominville scored. Ryan Keslers last-chance attempt for Vancouver sailed wide right after Josh Harding stopped shots by Mike Santorelli and Chris Higgins. "Weve got to try different people, I guess, because we stink at it," Canucks coach John Tortorella said. Harding made 29 saves to win for the fifth time in his last six starts and the Wild improved to 14-3-2 at Xcel Energy Center, where Luongo fell to 3-9-3 in his career. "I dont care about that stuff. I wasnt worried about it coming into the game. I just wanted to play," Luongo said. Parise scored early for the Wild, but Charlie Coyles late goal was what bothered Luongo, who let a snap shot go between his legs to tie the game with 11:13 left in regulation. "Its a disappointing loss. Ive got to make that save there on that second goal. Thats the bottom line. I do and we win the game 2-1," Luongo said. His last start in Minnesota was Oct. 19, 2010. Pulled from the past three games he started here, Luongo gave up a total of 16 goals on those forgettable nights. "I think we need a save on the second goal, but he made some great saves in the overtime," Tortorella said. "Ive never been here with him. Its a big story that he stinks here. But I thought he played well tonight." Jannik Hansen and David Booth each scored for the second straight game for the Canucks, who won their first seven games this month by a 24-8 combined margin. Alex Brown Jersey. Only one of those wins went past regulation. The Wild, meanwhile, improved to 12-2-5 in one-goal games. "Confidence, and just sort of an attitude as much as anything else, that theyre going to keep fighting," coach Mike Yeo said. After ignoring the advice for most of the first two periods -- Tortorella called the game "boring" until overtime -- the Wild heeded Yeos urging to send more pucks at the net down the stretch. "Teams scramble when you shoot the puck. When you keep it on the perimeter, its pretty easy to defend," Parise said, adding: "You dont want to make a habit of it, but were confident we can come back." This was the only home game for the Wild in the middle of a grueling eight-game stretch against some of the NHLs top teams. "Down by a goal, you kind of got a sense of urgency, I think," Coyle said. "And time is winding down, so you pick it up a little bit. I think weve got to play like that for the most part the whole game." NOTES: Zenon Konopka took a penalty for tripping in the second period that the crowd loudly booed. But the Canucks wanted a major, because defenceman Ryan Stanton went feet first hard into the boards and was injured. He didnt return and was wearing a boot on his left foot afterward. ... C Mikael Granlund, who has played just one shift in the last 13 games because of a concussion, returned to practice Monday and is close to being cleared to play again. ... The Higgins-Kesler-Santorelli line has 10 goals and 14 assists between them in eight games this month. ... Parises goal was the first power-play score against the Canucks during December, ending a run of seven games and 21 opportunities without one. ... Ryan Suter had an assist for the fourth straight game and was on the ice for 32:34, the 12th time in the last 21 games that he topped 30 minutes. "When the games on the line and hes playing like that, its hard not to put him out," Yeo said. ' ' '

    • SAN FRANCISCO -- While chatter has swirled about Jim Harbaughs future with the 49ers in recent weeks, wide receiver Anquan Boldin has secured his status in San Francisco -- and even credited the coach for his decision to come back. Cheap Air Force 1 Australia . The franchise gave him a few million other reasons, too. The 49ers signed Boldin to a two-year, $12 million contract with $9 million guaranteed Monday, keeping quarterback Colin Kaepernicks top option from last season and one of Harbaughs favourites from hitting free agency. "Hes a guy I had a real good relationship with," Boldin said about Harbaugh on a conference call with reporters. "Me and him were able to talk about anything. And I just like his demeanour, the way he approaches the game. Hes a guy that wants to win. Im the exact same way. So I think we mesh pretty good." Boldin, who was set to become a free agent next week, led San Francisco with 85 catches for 1,179 yards to go with seven touchdowns last season. He was traded from John Harbaughs Ravens to the 49ers in the off-season for a sixth-round pick after helping Baltimore win the Super Bowl. While the salary cap strapped Ravens failed to make the playoffs, the 49ers finished 12-4 during the regular season -- in part because Boldin filled the void created by an off-season torn right Achilles tendon that sidelined Michael Crabtree for the first 11 games. Boldins performances earned him the Bill Walsh Award, given to the team MVP by the coaches. Boldins deal locked up one of San Franciscos top off-season priorities and briefly quieted the questions about Harbaughs future with the 49ers after reports surfaced in recent weeks about the team fielding trade offers for the coach from the Cleveland Browns, a possible rift with general manager Trent Baalke and even problems with players. Boldin said he doesnt pay much attention to NFL news in the off-season because hes focused on his family and charitable foundation and "at this time of year, people grab at whatever." But he admitted hed been following the Harbaugh saga. "When I did hear about it, I kind of laughed," Boldin said. "I dont think anybody in our locker room has an issue with coach Harbaugh. The way our locker room is built, we have an open-door policy. If anybody has a concern or wants to voice their opinion, theyre more than welcome to. "There have been times when we have voiced our concerns as players, and coach Harbaugh has listened to us and taken into consideration how we felt as players. So I dont think theres any rift between players and coaches, particularly coach Harbaugh." Boldins return to San Francisco was not all that surprising. Harbaugh said at last weeks NFL Scouting Combine that the franchise was determined to re-sign the wide receiver, and Boldin had repeatedly said he wanted to come back. The sides hashed out the deal before Boldin could become a free agent for the first time in his 11-year career. "We are pleased that Anquan has chosen to continue his career as a 49er," Baalke said in a statement. "He is a consummate professional whose love and respect for the game provide a tremendous example for all players. Anquan has been a very productive player throughout his career and we look forward to his future contributions to our team and community." Boldins transition to the 49ers seemed seamless. Boldin, now 33 years old, was at his best in his debut for San Francisco when he caught 13 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown in a 34-28 win over Green Bay. He then capped his season with his second-best game with nine catches for 149 yards and a score in a Week 17 win over Arizona that clinched the fifth seed for San Francisco. In three playoff games, Boldin had 16 catches for 227 yards and a touchdown. The 49ers lost in the NFC title game to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Boldin, drafted by Arizona in the second round out of Florida State in 2003, played seven seasons for the Cardinals and three for the Ravens. The three-time Pro Bowler has 857 receptions for 11,344 yards and 65 touchdowns in his career, which he believes is far from finished. "Physically, I feel fine," he said. "I feel as if I can play five more years. So thats not a problem for me. I feel great. But well see how it goes." AP Sports Writer Janie McCauley contributed to this story. Asics Outlet Store . "Did I want to win 7-1? Absolutely,” said Babcock after a nervous 2-1 win in the quarter-finals against Latvia. “Do I think its better for my team that we won the way we did? For sure." It took every bit of mustard his team could find to finally get past the unlikely challengers from Latvia – a team they had never lost to in either the Olympics or World Championships – and avert disaster. Kristers Gudlevskis, an unheralded 21-year-old draft pick in executive director Steve Yzermans Tampa Bay Lightning organization, stopped 55 shots and held the Canadians to just a single goal for the first 53 minutes of regulation. Patience was tested and tested again and again with every chance, opportunity and flurry squashed by the apparent back-up Latvian netminder, starting with a Sidney Crosby breakaway in the opening moments and continuing right on through the rest of the night. "Obviously when youre talking about 10 minutes left in the third and you look up and youve got 50-some-odd shots you dont want it to be one of those nights," said Crosby after the win. "I think that you just try to trust that eventually those chances will go in, stick with it." Patrick Sharp became just the fourth Canadian forward to score, his first goal in the middle frame matched minutes later on a mildly shocking Lauris Darzins breakaway. From there the Gudlevkis show rolled on in ever-surprising fashion, some of the most gifted offensive talents on the planet stonewalled by a goaltender who was starting for the American Hockey Leagues Syracuse Crunch as recently as Feb. 5. There was the stop on Jeff Carter in alone in the second period, a blocker save on Rick Nash in the third, a jam attempt by Chris Kunitz just a few minutes later. For a forward contingent struggling to score these were familiar troubles building in a game that Canada had no business not winning. "If you look at tonight besides picking the puck up and throwing it in the net what could you tell someone to do in those situations," said Crosby, who still has yet to score in this tournament. "We had some great chances. Youre getting chances like that theres not a lot you would change. Its not like you were going in there adjusting and trying to figure something out. I think its just the ultimate test of your patience when youre getting chances like that and you need to find a way to score.&" Its ultimately that persistence and push through the wall of a hot goaltender that Babcock believes will benefit his team moving into a 2010 gold medal game re-match with the Americans on Friday. Cheap Asics Australia. Though they had only mild difficulties against Norway and Austria, the Canadians really only faced a stiff test from Finland in the final game of the preliminary round, a tilt they scratched out in overtime on the second of two goals from Drew Doughty. On this night it was another defenceman proving the hero. Shea Weber fired a cannon past Gudlevskis with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation, easing the nerves of a tense nation on the other side of the globe. "We just talked about the hockey gods," Babcock said. "You just keep doing things right, youre going to be rewarded. We had some chances. So we just thought if we kept doing it, wed get our chances, wed get a break, wed score a goal." Though they inched closer to it in the close win over Latvia, Canada has yet to truly resemble the powerhouse it was expected to be here in Sochi. But they have, true to Babcocks word, gotten better with each day gone by. They enter the semifinal, however, as an unlikely underdog, squaring off against an American squad thats stomped all of its competition here in Sochi. With the hottest player on the planet in Phil Kessel – who has nearly as many goals here in Russia (five) as the entire Canadian forward group (six) – and a battle-tested Jonathan Quick between the pipes, the U.S. has the look of a favourite in what should be an enticing rematch of the gold medal game in Vancouver. "Its what its all about," said Jonathan Toews of the matchup. "Canada-USA, I think has become a bigger rivalry than Canada-Russia. Theres a lot of animosity, lot of feelings like theres something to prove between both teams. Its for the chance to go play for a gold medal. It doesnt get any better than that." It took a few bumps and a similar crescendo for Canada to top the U.S. in Vancouver in 2010. There were familiar stumbles along the way – including a preliminary round loss to the U.S. – but ultimately, the Canadians got their game together as the tournament stretched on, dominating the Russians in the quarter-final before edging the Slovaks and Americans en route to gold. Babcock is mindful of that path when he looks at the winding road thus far in 2014. "The Olympic Games isnt supposed to be easy,” he said. “They dont just give the medals out. You earn the medals. Now wed like to put ourselves in a situation to compete for one and we have another day to prepare [on Thursday]." ' ' '

    • OXNARD, Calif. Elfrid Payton Jersey . -- Tyron Smith has a new contract that will probably make him the most important blocker for the next Dallas quarterback after Tony Romo. The Pro Bowl left tackle signed an eight-year, $98 million extension Wednesday that pushes the total value of his deal to $110 million over 10 years, locking him up through 2023. The extension includes a $10 million signing bonus and $40 million in guaranteed money. Smith joins Romo as the only Cowboys with contracts valued at more than $100 million. Smith was just 20 when the Cowboys took him ninth overall in 2011 out of Southern California. That was Jason Garretts first draft as coach. "That first one says a lot about what you believe," Garrett said. "Hes something else. We really emphasize the importance of mental toughness. We believe thats a distinguishing trait in players and in teams. And he represents that in spades. Hes off the charts." In a statement through his marketing agency, Smith said the Cowboys approached him with what is a cap-friendly deal for the franchise, and the lineman asked his agents to weigh the pros and cons of signing it. Smith said part of his reasoning was rewarding owner Jerry Jones for standing by him during a difficult time that included Smiths lawyer accusing the players parents of taking money from him after he had set up a way to give them a portion of his rookie contract. "Theyve looked out for me and I just wanted to look out for them," Smith told reporters after Wednesdays late practice. "The deal they offered me, didnt really need much and its something I was really comfortable before I took it." Executive vice-president Stephen Jones said the Cowboys wanted to make Smith the highest-paid left tackle in the NFL, which he said was accomplished through a $12.2 million average for the eight-year extension. "Tyron deserves it," Jones said. "Hes 23 years old, and it may be the first 10-year deal Ive ever done in football where I think the guy will be playing in the last year of his contract." Smith has started all 47 games in his career, missing one game with a sprained ankle in 2012. He played right tackle as a rookie before moving to the left side, and this year hell be protecting Romos blind side with the 34-year-old coming off back surgery. "Hes just been everything we wanted to build this program and this team around," Garrett said. "He was a really young player we put in really in minute one of day one. Hes everything we thought he was going to be, physically and intangibly and just as a person. His work ethic is fantastic." Smith became the first-round model in three of four drafts for the Cowboys -- proven players from major college programs. They took centre Travis Frederick from Wisconsin late in the first round last year after trading down and grabbed right guard Zack Martin out of Notre Dame in the middle of the first round this year. "On draft day, youre optimistic about the players you take, particularly that high in the draft, but when you see them develop as quickly as he has into the kind of leader and the player you want, not only for your team but your program, its really satisfying," Garrett said. "Hes a cornerstone player in this franchise." As with Smith, Frederick and Martin have been plugged in as starters from the start of their first off-season. They were born within four months of each other and will each be 23 when the season starts. "You see those relationships developing before your eyes," Garrett said. "Its a special bond, particularly when you play a position like offensive line where the communication is verbal but also has to be almost by feel." Drew Gooden Jersey . The Winnipeg Goldeyes (15-9) did just that in a 7-4 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (15-9) at Newman Outdoor Field in North Dakota Sunday afternoon. The win is Winnipegs first regular season victory in Fargo since August 2012 and avoids a third consecutive sweep in Fargo to the RedHawks. The Goldeyes scored single runs in each of the first three innings, including a lead-off home run by Ray Sadler in the top of the third inning that gave Winnipeg a 3-1 lead. After Fargo responded with two runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game, Winnipeg restored the two-run lead in the top of the sixth.  Josh Mazzola singled in Donnie Webb, and Reggie Abercrombie scored on the same play thanks to a throwing error by Fargo third baseman Ronnie Bourquin, who was trying to catch Mazzola in a run down between first and second base. An inning later, Luis Alen dumped a single into centre field, which scored Tyler Kuhn and Jake Blackwood.Fargo tallied a run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the RedHawks comeback bid fell three runs shortt. Khem Birch Jersey. Alen was Winnipegs leader offensively with three RBI in the game. "Thats what Luis does," Goldeyes pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea said on the Jewel 101 post-game show. "He puts the ball in play, finds the gaps and gets the big hits with men on base." On the bump, Chandler Barnard went 5 1/3 innings in his Goldeyes debut to get the win. He allowed three runs on six hits. "He has a hard, heavy sinker," Vermilyea said. "Once he established that and threw it over the plate, they didnt put too many good swings on it. He looked good, especially joining a new team in the middle of the season." Kyle Bellamy pitched the ninth inning for his fourth save of the season. Fargos starter Danny Gutierrez suffered the loss for the RedHawks. After playing the Field of Dreams Golf Tournament tomorrow, the Goldeyes begin a six-game homestand Tuesday night against the Grand Prairie AirHogs, who will be making their first visit to Shaw Park. The St. Paul Saints will make their first of three visits to Winnipeg next weekend for the back half of the homestand. ' ' '
