    • WINNIPEG - Kyle Anderson turned in his second consecutive quality start for the Winnipeg Goldeyes, but Marquis Fleming was just a little bit better for the Lincoln Saltdogs. Emmanuel Sanders Super Bowl Jersey . The Goldeyes (10-7) lost 4-1 to the Saltdogs (8-9) Sunday afternoon before 5,834 sizzling fans at Shaw Park. The loss drops Winnipegs record to 3-4 during this past weeks seven-game homestand.  Combined with last nights loss, the Goldeyes have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season. Lincoln staked a two-run lead in the top of the fourth inning without getting a hit. Brian Joynt walked to lead off the inning and Ian Gac was hit by a pitch. Kevin Howard reached first on a fielders choice, which moved Joynt to third and caused Gac to be out at second. Joynt then scored on an error when Howard stole second, which led to him scoring on a ground out. An inning later, the Goldeyes broke the shutout. Ryan Pineda singled to lead things off, then went to second on a single by Tyler Kuhn and scored on a Jake Blackwood single. That, however, would be the only run the Goldeyes could score against Fleming. "Flemings a good pitcher," Forney said. "We saw him in Lincoln and he was just as good down there. You have to make him pitch to the top in the zone and if youre swinging at stuff down in the zone, you have zero chance of hitting that kind of stuff." Joynt hit a two-run home run off Goldeyes reliever Kyle Bellamy in the top of the eighth to put Lincoln up 4-1. Anderson was the hard-luck loser after giving up just two runs – one of which was earned – in 6 2/3 innings of work. "Other than the top of the fourth, he was phenomenal today," Forney said of his starting pitcher. Fleming tossed seven innings for the win, while Marshall Schuler pitched the ninth inning for his fourth save of the season. Pineda had a two-hit to lead the Goldeyes, who only managed five hits in the contest. Winnipeg will now head to Sioux Falls for four games against the Canaries, starting Monday night at 7 p.m. Matt Jackson (2-1, 3.50) will take the ball for Winnipeg. Nick Mullens Super Bowl Jersey . After two months of mediocrity, perhaps the Washington Nationals have turned the page. Strasburg struck out 11 in seven innings Wednesday night and the Nationals kept the Philadelphia Phillies bats quiet yet again in an 8-4, rain-interrupted win. Weston Richburg Super Bowl Jersey . Alvarez hit his first career home run, pitched six innings and hurt his right hamstring while running the bases in the Miami Marlins 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs.EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - From the moment the Minnesota Vikings traded back into the first round to take Teddy Bridgewater, it was only a matter of time before he took over as the teams starting quarterback. When Bridgewater makes his first start on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, he will be in line for something even bigger a€” the new face of the franchise. With Adrian Peterson away from the team while he faces child abuse charges, the Vikings are searching for a new identity while the chaos from Petersons legal troubles and injuries to several high-profile players threaten to derail the team less than a month into the season. In steps Bridgewater, the unflappable rookie, and all he has to do is pull the Vikings out of a spiral and step into the void left by Petersons departure. No pressure, Teddy. Its no pressure on me and its not all about me, Bridgewater said Wednesday. It takes a team effort to win football games and we have 11 guys on defence who are going to play their tails off. We have 11 guys on special teams and 10 other guys on the offensive side of the ball that are going to be out there competing for one another. Theres no pressure for me to have to fill the needs or anything. ... Its just all about the team. With quarterback Matt Cassel lost for the season with a foot injury and Peterson out indefinitely while the legal process plays out, the Vikings have become Teddys team much faster than anyone expected. The Vikings traded back into the first round on the opening night of the draft to snag Bridgewater in hopes that he could finally become the long-term answer at quarterback the team has been searching for ever since Daunte Culpepper went down with a knee injury in 2005. Peterson was expected to continue to be the teams star player for at least another season or two, providing a cocoon for the young quarterback while he got his feet underneath him. That all changed two weeks ago with Petersons stunning arrest in a child-abuse charge in Texas. Ready or not, its Teddy Time in Minnesota. Honestly, coach Mike Zimmer said, I think hes been ready since the day he walked in. The Vikings started the season with the veteran Cassel, hoping to ease Bridgewaters transition and give him some time to get acclimated to NFL life. While Cassel was running with the starters, Bridgewater distinguished himself by not diistinguishing himself at all. Solomon Thomas Super Bowl Jersey. Earlier on draft night, Minnesota attempted to trade up to No. 22 to grab Johnny Manziel, the flamboyant Texas A&M quarterback. But Cleveland outbid the Vikings, who then set their sights on Bridgewater. While Manziel has drawn headlines for his party-hearty lifestyle off the field, Bridgewater has been whisper quiet in the meeting rooms and sound bite-proof in his interactions with the media. He doesnt really get overwhelmed, fullback Jerome Felton said. He works hard. Hes humble. He comes prepared. So I think thats the biggest thing. He prepares himself well. Hes in here early, leaves late, so hell be just fine. Bridgewater stepped in for the injured Cassel on Sunday and completed 12 of 20 passes for 150 yards against a New Orleans defence that played the pass very aggressively with Peterson gone. The offence didnt score a touchdown with him in the game, but his ability to handle the heat carried over from his turns in the huddle during the preseason. I remember the first preseason game I asked Teddy whether he was nervous or not and of course he said no. And I thought, you know, hes just a liar, backup quarterback Christian Ponder said. But the guy doesnt get nervous. The guy has a ton of poise and played extremely well. I expect that to continue the next game and so on. When Bridgewater takes the field for his first game as a starter on Sunday against Atlanta (2-1), he wont have Peterson to take his handoffs. He wont have tight end Kyle Rudolph, who will miss about six weeks after having sports hernia surgery, to catch his passes and he wont have starting right guard Brandon Fusco, who is out for the season with a torn pectoral muscle, to block for him. He also wont have a big entourage in the stands. Bridgewater said earlier this season a€” while he was still Cassels backup a€” he put six people, including his mother, girlfriend and agent, on a list to watch the game. Now that hes starting, the number hasnt changed. I gave myself a moment Monday morning, Bridgewater said. I woke up and told myself, Hey, your dream is finally here and its coming true. Its not the way that I wanted it to happen, but Im still going to have to take advantage of this opportunity. Its one thing to be named the guy, but for me I want to continue to just be the guy for a long time. ' ' '

    • WASHINGTON -- With newly signed Evgeny Kuznetsov looking on, the Washington Capitals did their best to entertain their new teammate. Pierre Thomas Jersey . Troy Brouwer scored a power-play goal off a rebound to cap a rally from a two-goal deficit in the third period as the Capitals beat the Phoenix Coyotes 3-2 on Saturday night. After failing to score in the first 49 minutes against Mike Smith (30 saves), Washington tallied three times in a span of 5 minutes, 2 seconds. Karl Alzner started the surge with a goal at the 9:45 mark. Just 32 seconds later, Brooks Laich tied it on a feed from Jason Chimera. When Washington got just its second power-play opportunity of the night, David Moss tripping Dmitry Orlov, the Capitals cashed in. Smith failed to control a slap shot by Nicklas Backstrom and it rebounded to Brouwer who scored his seventh goal in his last eight games. The win snapped Washingtons three-game losing streak. The Capitals remained in 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings, one point behind Columbus and Detroit, who are tied for the eighth and final playoff spot. "We know that were at a point where our season is on the line every single game," Brouwer said. "That should be enough motivation in here and it was tonight." It was a successful Washington debut for goalie Jaroslav Halak, who made 31 saves. Halak was acquired from Buffalo in a deadline deal on Wednesday. "It was really weird, wearing that jersey, looking down, seeing the red colour," Halak said. "The first half of the game, I was really nervous. I wanted to obviously leave a good impression on fans on my teammates and everybody in the organization." The victory ended an eventful night for the Capitals. Less than two hours before the game, Washington signed 2010 first-round draft choice Kuznetsov, ending a long pursuit of the 21-year-old forward, who has played the last four years in Russias Kontinental Hockey League. He could make his NHL debut Monday night when the Capitals host the Pittsburgh Penguins. "He doesnt know this hockey and we dont want to put him in a situation that he cant handle right now," Washington coach Adam Oates said. "But in saying that, if we can spot him in the lineup it could be a nice spark for us. Hes a very talented man." Brandon McMillan and Radim Vrbata scored for Phoenix, with Keith Yandle assisting on both. "It seemed like we stopped playing the way we played in the first and the second," Vrbata said. "When you have a 2-0 lead going into the third, you have to find a way to win, and we didnt." The Coyotes took the lead with 62 seconds left in the first period when Washington lost the puck in the neutral zone as it began a transition play. McMillan turned the mistake into a breakaway goal, his first in the NHL since scoring in the 2011 playoffs for Anaheim. It might have been the second goal for McMillan. Midway through the period, he appeared to score off a rebound. But officials ruled that McMillan simultaneously pushed the puck and Halaks pad across the goal line. In the second period, Phoenix made it 2-0 as Vrbata redirected a shot from the point by Michael Stone. After losing 3-0 on Thursday at Boston, Washington appeared destined for a second straight shutout until Alzner scored from deep as Yandle appeared to screen the view of Smith -- starting the big comeback. It was just the second goal this season for the defenceman. "Maybe it had something to do with the fact that it was me who scored it and not a guy who normally scores, but people seemed really up after that," Alzner said. "It was the perfect momentum swing and the perfect line to come out right after that. It was a perfect storm for us." Notes: Phoenix forward Martin Erat was booed many times when he touched the puck. Erat was dealt by Washington this week after scoring one goal for the team. In November, Erat asked to be traded, complaining about a lack of playing time. Dalton Hilliard Jersey .Y. - Peyton Manning made his fifth MVP award a family affair. LeCharles Bentley Jersey . -- Quarterback Josh Johnson has returned to the San Francisco 49ers and his former college coach, Jim Harbaugh. The rather important matter of three Championship points may be at stake in Saturday lunchtimes FL72 local derby between Derby and Nottingham Forest on Sky Sports, but whenever the fixture takes place it is forever associated with the memory and achievements of one man – Brian Clough. Both sets of fans have paid fitting tributes to their iconic title-winning former manager following his passing in 2004. So, ahead of the latest ‘Brian Clough derby’, here is a selection of classic quotes from one of the most charismatic and colourful football characters of them all…Classic Cloughie “The River Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years” – on being the best.Im sure the England selectors thought if they took me on and gave me the job, Id want to run the show. They were shrewd because thats exactly what I would have done” – on never becoming England manager.Im loath to confess they could be as good as us. They are brilliant. It sticks in the craw a little bit because nobody likes Arsenal! Of course theres a Frenchman in charge, Wenger, and not many English people like Frenchmen. He is a top, top manager” – on Arsenal breaking Nottingham Forest’s record for 42 games unbeaten. Players lose you games, not tactics. Theres so much crap talked about tactics by people who barely know how to win at dominoes” – on his football tactics.Resignations are for prime ministers and those caught with their trousers down, not for me – on staying the course.I wouldnt say I was the best manager in the business. But I was in the top one – on his standing.Anybody who can do anything in Leicester but maake a jumper has got to be a genius - on his ex-player Martin ONeill’s success. Ryan Ramczyk Jersey. f God had wanted us to play football in the clouds, hed have put grass up there - on long-ball football.“I’m a little bit of an idealist, I do believe in fairies, and that is my outlook” – on his playing style.“We talk about it for 20 minutes and then we decide I was right” – on listening to players opinions. I only ever hit Roy the once. He got up so I couldnt have hit him very hard – on looking after Roy Keane at Forest. That Seaman is a handsome young man but he spends too much time looking in his mirror, rather than at the ball. You cant keep goal with hair like that” – on facial hair…and ponytales.“The players havent got enough heart to fill a thimble” – on his Brighton side’s 8-2 defeat to Bristol Rovers.“Good managers make good sides. There’s no such thing as a side making a manager” – on lucky players.“Don’s slightly different and his record proves over results that he perhaps is right. • PORTLAND, Ore. Jordan Franks Jersey Retro . -- Wesley Johnson was hard-pressed to think of a more memorable shot hes had than his game-winner against Portland. Kent Bazemore lobbed to Johnson for the go-ahead basket with 6.9 seconds left and the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Trail Blazers 107-106 on Monday night. Theyd been practicing that very play. "Its one of them. Its gotta be up there," Johnson said about where the shot ranked. "To pull out the win like we did and fight the whole game, it was a good one." Pau Gasol scored 22 points and the Lakers won their second straight, snapping the Blazers five-game winning streak. Jodie Meeks added 21 points. The Lakers, who led by as many as 15 points in the first quarter, pushed the lead to 97-86 in the fourth on MarShon Brooks short jumper. But Nicolas Batums 3-pointer narrowed the gap to 103-101 for the Blazers with 3:37 left before Wesley Matthews fadeaway jumper tied it at 105 with 1:10 left. Damian Lillard hit one of two free throws to give Portland its first lead since the first quarter. But the officials reversed a possession call with 7.1 seconds left, giving the ball to the Lakers. Bazemore pitched to Johnson for the deciding layup and Lillard missed a 3-pointer as time ran out. "These guys are straight up athletes in this league and you can just throw it anywhere around the dash," Bazemore said. "He (Johnson) caught it and could have actually dunked it but went with a safe one." Robin Lopez had 19 points and 16 rebounds, while Batum had 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Blazers. Los Angeles was coming off a 126-122 victory at home Friday over Sacramento, which snapped a three-game losing streak. But the Lakers still sit at the bottom of the Western Conference with the Kings. "They were making shots. They were making jumpers. I think we were deflated all the way around," Blazers guard Wesley Matthews said. "Their energy was higher than ours." The Blazers won the first meeting against the Lakers, 114-108 on Dec. 1. Xavier Henry, who had 27 points against the Blazers in December, returned to the Lakers lineup Monday after missing 28 games with a right knee injury, but he was played only sparingly. Coach Mike DAntoni said hed limit Henrys minutes to start. Steve Nash ran through drills on the court before the game but sat out of his eighth straight game after a brief return from a nerve root irritation, which causes him back pain. Earlier in the day at shootaround, DAntoni told reporters he was doubtful Nash would return this season. After the game DAntoni said: "Hes not quite there physically. He tried it and couldnt finish a game so theres really no point in pushing the injury further. Hes just trying to get well and then well see." Nash, who made the trip to Portland, was noncommittal: "Well see how I feel next week and if I get a chance to practice." Nash, 40, has played in 10 games for the Lakers this season, averaging 7.6 points and 4.7 assists. Kobe Bryant was also in Portland, but he has not been medically cleared to play after breaking his left knee in December. The Lakers jumped out to a 31-16 lead in the first quarter, capping a 14-2 run with Meeks dunk. Portland struggled with eight turnovers. Portland closed the gap in the second quarter, pulling to within 45-38 on Batums dish to Lopez for the dunk and a free throw. But Bazemores last-break dunk extended the Lakers lead to 56-47 with 3:27 left in the half. The Lakers led 63-56 at the half. Los Angeles wouldnt let the Blazers get closer than four points and Gasols dunk extended the lead to 82-73 with 2:36 left. Dorell Wright hit two consecutive 3-pointers for Portland to close within 82-79, but Bazemore answered with a 3 for the Lakers. Blazers coach Terry Stotts said he didnt believe his team overlooked the Lakers. "I think its a credit to the Lakers. They sustained their style of play from the very beginning," Stotts said. "They got out in transition, they were aggressive in passing lanes, they forced eight turnovers in the first quarter. They got us on our heels right away. We got back, but I thought what the Lakers did more than anything was they came out and sustained it for the entire game." Notes: Robin Lopez had 13 points in the first half, a new career high. ... The Blazers announced a contest for fans to design a new floor for the Moda Center for the 2014-15 season. ... Portland was coming off a 102-96 victory at home over Denver on Saturday. Curtis DeLoatch Jersey Retro . He liked what he saw on Tuesday night. Not only did his team post a comeback 3-2 victory in a shootout over the Montreal Canadiens, but the rival Washington Capitals were beaten 5-1 in Buffalo. Cheap Jerseys . Ho-Sang is a highly regarded prospect, as seen in TSNs Midseason Rankings. This was Game 3 of their playoff series and that wasnt the only strange incident in Londons 10-2 win over Windsor.LONDON -- Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insisted Sunday hell be back for another season at the club, ending speculation that he might leave after nearly 18 years at the helm. Wenger has yet to sign a new contract, with his current deal expiring after this campaign, and was asked after a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Sunday whether hell be back next season. "Yes," he replied. "I dont know (when I will sign a new deal). I told you many times that my word is my word. I am from a period where you didnt need a pen to commit." He suggested that one factor that had been holding him back was waiting to see if the club would secure a top-four finish this season, which it did after Evertonn lost to Manchester City on Saturday. Ray Neal Jersey Retro. "It was of course important to be in the Champions League, that is for sure," he said. Under Wengers leadership, Arsenal has secured Champions League football for 17 consecutive seasons and overseen a lucrative move from Highbury to Emirates Stadium. When he joined Arsenal in 1996, the club flourished on the pitch, winning three league titles and four FA Cup trophies. But the 64-year-old Wenger has come under criticism from some fans in recent years for a lack of spending in the transfer market and failing to end Arsenals trophy drought. The team can win its first major title since 2005 in the FA Cup final against Hull on May 17. ' ' '

    • The Day in 100 Words or Less The World Cup keeps on giving. Jace Sternberger Super Bowl Jersey . It was the day that gave us one of the finest World Cup finishes in history. A day that showed off FIFAs fancy goal-line technology tool, saw a French talisman get the start he desperately needed in Brazil and saw Honduras kick out at anything they could. Ultimately, though, the days most defining image was a smiling Lionel Messi celebrating with thousands of Argentina fans inside the famous Maracana. Argentina 2-1 Bosnia-Herzegovina - It will be remembered as the day Lionel Messi scored his first World Cup goal in eight years. - Let the record books state that the ball went in the net at the 64:29 mark. Fifty-five seconds before that he blasted a free kick over the bar and sections of the stadium booed him. - Twenty minutes earlier Twitter buried him. Yes, his first half was average but so was Argentinas, strangely sent out in a 5-3-2 shape that gave absolutely zero width. - What it did do was make Argentina more defensive and although they were better in the second half it is clear how they ended this game that their coach is still nowhere near comfortable playing a back four. - Alejandro Sabella changed it at half-time unleashing Argentina with Fernando Gago and Gonzalo Higuain making them look more like their normal selves in a 4-3-3 shape. - Argentina were better in the second half but far from great. It was, then, a night about Messi, inside one of the worlds most famous stadiums, where a goal finally lifted some of the nonsense pressure that has piled on his shoulders in the build-up to this competition. - To understand the brilliance of the goal it is important to show why Messi struggled to penetrate and Bosnia-Herzegovina played a substantial part in that. Messi drops deep and wants to drive with the ball, keep close control of the ball, take more touches than most when dribbling and use team-mates to help him glide into danger zones. He excels better when starting slightly right of centre and moving inside on his left. Opponents know this and Bosnia-Herzegovinas plan in the first half was to allow Messi space to run into but centrally. Too often Messi picked up the ball deep, had no outlets to combine with and saw a defensive structure in front of him that forced him to only go straight. On the goal things changed. Both subs, Higuain and Gago, came deep to combine and then, importantly, ran on when giving it to Messi as he receives the ball... Messi then got to penetrate and have Higuain to play off, dragging defenders towards the Napoli striker... Then Messi had them where he wanted them, able to dribble into space laterally before shooting brilliantly to make it 2-0. - Argentina would win 2-1 and have many question marks about their World Cup credentials but, at this stage, that is better than peaking really early which is something they have done in recent World Cups. Switzerland 2-1 Ecuador - "The World Cups first draw of the tournament served up another tasty dish." ... That was supposed to be my opening line from this game. How naive of me to write it before a game had ended in Brazil. I should know better by now. - On day four, in the ninth game of the World Cup, we saw another team come from behind and win a match for the fifth time! It happened just four times in 64 games in South Africa. - The drama took place in the 93rd minute. Switzerland were on the ropes, Ecuador had been the better team and rather than sit deep and take a crucial point they sensed a weakness they could take advantage of. Their wide players were excellent, particularly Jefferson Montero and Walter Ayovi who dominated down the left in the final third attacks. - It was, however, on the other flank that started a phenomenal minute of football and when Antonio Valencia charged down the right flank in the final minute, Swiss fans held their breath. Valon Behramis brilliant tackle and then surge into the opponents half started yet another counter-attack. He was cynically fouled but the ref played advantage. Ecuador were now the ones on the ropes, they allowed him to be fouled and pick up the ball unchallenged and as they labored back the Swiss switched the play to the left and the excellent Ricardo Rodriguez. The Wolfsburg dangerman sent in another good cross and a second substitute for the Swiss scored as Haris Seferovics tap in got millions around the globe out of their chairs. - It was a massive goal in the context of this group. Taking a point, with France next, after an average performance would have been very concerning for Ottmar Hitzfelds team. They were outplayed by the South Americans for large stretches of this game and uncharacteristically were far more open than the coach would have wanted. However, a win now sets them to have a shot at winning this group and being paired with Group F in the next round that means Switzerlands dream of making the last eight is a real possibility. - For now, though, the real winner was the sport. This was the perfect scenario for two teams to sit deep and play out for a draw as the second half played out. That didnt happen and it was another game to watch with a huge smile on your face. France 3–0 Honduras - We have had a bit of everything so far in the World Cup. This game gave us some brutality and a first real look at the goal-line technology system at this tournament. - What worked: the ball hit the post and was bundled over the line when goalkeeper Noel Valladares attempted to keep it out. - What confused people: the system first showed the ball not going over the line and no goal came up on the screen seen around the world. Many thought that was the end of it but seconds later it showed the next area of concern that revealed the ball was over the line. - What people need to learn: It was not FIFA or anyones fault that the system first of all said no goal. It is designed to check borderline calls on the line and it took just a second to ensure it wasnt in. Those who got confused and jumped to the wrong conclusion (of which they were many) simply need to be more patient with the system. - What cannot happen next time: it took close to two minutes and 35 seconds from the moment the ball went in to them kicking off again. This is far from ideal and the game does not benefit when a referee has to come over and explain to a teams bench that you cannot argue against technology. Whenever anything is new and is used for the first time it is always going to confuse some. The key thing is the right decision was made. When we are all old and in a pub ahead of the 2054 World Cup just remember what you saw today because it will be on the quiz. - As for the game, the butchers from Honduras were out of their depth and proved to be a perfect foe for a French team looking to draw a line from their qualification playoff. Man of the Day Nominees: Ricardo Rodriguez – It has been a World Cup where young, impressive fullbacks have got the attention they deserve. Bundesliga fans wont be surprised at just how good he was against Ecuador. Jefferson Montero – Another performance like that and he will be back playing in Europe in no time. Karim Benzema – France can go a long way in this tournament but they need their main striker on form and he was excellent against Honduras. Lionel Messi – It wasnt a classic performance but he was the headline-maker in Brazil on this day. Muhamed Besic – the 21-year-old midfielder was excellent against Argentina, drifting in between the lines and causing Javier Mascherano many problems. The winner: Karim Benzema - French football has waited for some time for him to step up and carry them forward. Eight goals in his last seven internationals, after a woeful early qualifying campaign, means the Real Madrid man is dangerously in-form at the right time. What Comes Next? Germany vs. Portugal Noon et/9am pt, Iran vs. Nigeria 3pm et/Noon pt, Ghana vs. USA 6pm et/3pm pt. Burning Question for Tomorrow Can Portugal play as well as they did in the Euro 2012 opener against Germany and this time ensure the result matches their performance? Key Stat of Day 4 Through the first 11 games of this World Cup, 10 games have had three goals or more. Through the first 11 games of World Cup 2010, only one saw three goals or more. Dave Robinson Super Bowl Jersey . Kabongo appeared in 33 regular-season games for the Lions after joining the team in 2012 after seven seasons in Edmonton. • MANAUS, Brazil -- Mario Mandzukic scored two goals Wednesday to keep Croatia in the mix at the World Cup with a 4-0 win over 10-man Cameroon, which will be going home after the group stage. Stitched Red Wings Jerseys . Mandzukic, who returned to the team at the Arena da Amazonia after sitting out the opening loss to Brazil through suspension, headed in a corner from Danijel Pranjic in the 61st minute and then knocked in a rebound in the 73rd of the Group A game. Ivan Perisic also scored one goal and made another for Ivica Olic. Cameroon was reduced to 10 men after midfielder Alex Song was given a red card for elbowing Mandzukic in the back in an off-the-ball incident in the 40th minute. Cameroon started without the injured Samuel Etoo, the teams best player. And the frustration within the team boiled over in injury time when Benoit Assou-Ekotto head-butted teammate Benjamin Moukandjo in front of their goal. "Its unimaginable. I saw this happen and I need to find out exactly what happened, why exactly these two players exploded," Cameroon coach Volker Finke said. "I really hate to see that. Its not the image of Cameroon I want to project." Croatia now has its future in its own hands. If the 1998 World Cup semifinalists beat Mexico on Monday, they will guarantee themselves a spot in the second round. The Mexicans will advance with only a draw. Cameroon is out, however, and can only play spoiler in its final match against five-time champion Brazil, also on Monday. If the 1990 World Cup quarterfinalists beat Brazil, the host country could still advance or be forced out of the tournament on goal difference. Darijo Srna started the move for the first goal, whipping a cross into the area from the right in the 11th minute. Mandzukic and Nicolas Nkoulou then collided while going for it, but the ball popped loose to Perisic. The Croatia midfielder stepped up and coolly slid the ball into the path of Olic to tap in. Perisic did it all himself early in the second half, beating Cameroon defender Dany Nounkeu to a long pass from goalkeeper Charles Itandje and taking it all the way back to where it came from. Perisic, with Nounkeu chasing him, ran into the area down the left and gave himself a tough angle before slipping his shot between Itandje and the near post in the 48th. Mandzukic was left unmarked to head home Croatias third goal and followed up with the simplest of tap-ins when Itandje spilled a shot from Eduardo. Cameroon knew it needed points against Croatia, and the team came out fast in an effort to take the early lead. Several dangerous attacks down the right flank caused concern to the Croatia defence early, but none of them materialized into any real danger. A few late chances came close, but nothing got past Croatia goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa. "The team tried with only 10 players, but the second goal arrived very early in the second half, unfortunately," Finke said. "After that it was an uphill battle." The loss of Etoo, who came to Brazil with a right knee injury, was a blow to the team, however. Although Cameroon still went on the attack even without their best attacker, the finishing class of the former Chelsea and Barcelona striker was missing. The loss of Song didnt help, either. The midfielder, well away from the ball, was running back from the Croatia end when he lashed out and elbowed Mandzukic in the back. Referee Pedro Proenca of Portugal immediately pulled out his red card and sent Song off. One night after he set the Braves franchise record for career saves, Craig Kimbrel blew his third of the season in 19 opportunities. The Diamondbacks were 0 for 12 with runners in scoring position before Aaron Hills pinch-hit double off Kimbrel down the right field line scored Ender Inciarte from second to tie it at 2-2. Jason Heyward homered with two outs in the 10th off Addison Reed to put the Braves up 3-2, but Miguel Montero tied it again with an opposite-field, one-out shot off Anthony Varvaro in Arizonas half of the inning. Ross singled with one out off David Carpenter (4-1), then Didi Gregorius walked to bring up Parra, whose soft fly ball fell in front of centre fielder B.J. Upton. Randall Delgado (1-1) struck out the side after a leadoff walk in the 11th to get the victory. It was just the 18th blown save in 173 career opportunities for Kimbrel, still the third-highest percentage in baseball history for pitchers with at least 150 save tries. Kimbrel, who earned a four-out save in Atlantas 5-2 victory Friday night, got Chris Owings to fly out to start the ninth. But Inciarte walked and stole second. Hill sliced one just inside the right field foul line to bring Inciarte home. Heywards two-out shot to left field off Addison Reed was his second home run in as many nights and extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Inciarte was called safe on a bunt to start the 11th, but Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez challenged and the call was reversed. It didnt matter as Arizona went on to score the winner. Miley allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits in seven innings, fanning six with no walks. The Braves took a 2-1 lead when, with two outs in the sixth, Justin Upton singled to right, then scored from first on Evan Gattis second double of the night. Atlanta second baseman Dan Uggla committed two errors, one leading to a run. Martin Prado led off the second with a single, took second on David Peraltas base hit, then scored when Uggla threw the ball away trying to convert a double play on a fielders choice ground out by Inciarte. Atlanta tied it in the third when Andrelton Simmons doubled, took third on the right fielder Parras errant throw, then scored on Heywards grounder, sliding in barely below the catcher Monteros tag after a high throw from the third baseman Prado. • (SportsNetwork. Darren ODay Jersey .com) - One night after setting a season high for goals in a game, the Philadelphia Flyers will try to keep their offense on point against the stingy Winnipeg Jets in Sundays clash at MTS Centre. The Flyers struggled early defensively versus the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday before pulling away for a 7-4 win. They trailed 2-0 and 3-2 in the first period, but ripped off five straight goals to pull away. Claude Giroux had a pair of goals and two assists, while Jakub Voracek tied a career high with four assists. Voracek leads the NHL with 42 points, three more than Giroux and Dallas Tyler Seguin, and his 30 assists also top the league. Giroux has 29 helpers on the season. Its great to get a lot of goals in one game, Giroux said. That was fun. Michael Raffl and Sean Couturier finished with a goal and an assist, while defenseman Nicklas Grossmann netted his career-high third goal of the season. Ray Emery allowed four goals on 25 shots in the victory, which snapped a two- game slide and came in the opener of an eight-game road trip. With No. 1 goaltender Steve Mason out for at least the weekend with a back injury suffered in practice on Friday, 33-year-old Rob Zepp is expected to make his NHL debut in net tonight. Zepp has gone 8-5-4 in 17 games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League this season after spending the previous seven campaigns in the German Elite League. Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo also is questionable with an upper-body injury sustained versus the Leafs. Philadelphias offense will go up against a Winnipeg team that ranks fourth in the NHL with just 2.21 goals allowed per game. That comes despite the club currently missing four defenseman due to injury. Tobias Enstrom, Zach Bogosian and Mark Stuart are all out with lower-body injuries, while Jacob Trouba has an upper-body issue. Winnipeg has won two straight, including a 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins on Friday. Evander Kane and Mathieu Perreault scored the goals and Michael Hutchinson had 30 saves. Real good goaltending, said Jets coach Paul Maurice. Then just an awful lot of hard, scramble battles. Defenseman Jay Harrison had an assist in his Jets debut after being acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes the previous game. Winnipeg will close out a four-game homestand tonight and Ondrej Pavelec figures to draw the start in net tonight. He is 7-4-1 in his career versus the Flyers with a 3.14 GAA and .910 save percentage in 13 games with 12 starts. The Jets have lost four of their last six versus the Flyers, but have won the last two meetings in Winnipeg. Phil Niekro Jersey . The defeat leaves the 41-year-old Nestor to concentrate on the mixed-doubles event after winning 12 straight matches and winning Australian titles in Brisbane and Sydney with two different partners. "This was a little bit of a let down, but all credit to them," said Nestor. Luke Jackson Jersey . - The Cleveland Indians will place centerfielder Michael Bourn on the disabled list before their opener at Oakland on March 31.LIENZ, Austria -- Overcoming several injury-plagued seasons, Marlies Schild of Austria finally set the best mark for most World Cup slalom victories Sunday by winning her 35th race to overtake Switzerlands Vreni Schneider on top of the all-time list. The 32-year-old Schild is a four-time World Cup slalom champion, but she missed a host of races after breaking a leg in 2008 and then tore ligaments last year. That meant she was stuck on 33 slalom wins for close to two years until winning in Courchevel, France, this month. "My 34th win was a weight off my shoulders," Schild said. "Suddenly everything got easier in training though racing is still something different." Marie-Michele Gagnon of Lac-Etchemin, Que., just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish. Brittany Phelan of Mont-Tremblant, Que., was 11th to lock up a spot for the Sochi Olympics. "As much as it would have been nice to be on the podium Im still happy with fourth," said Gagnon, who has been racing slalom, giant slalom and super-G this year. "By the end of the second run my legs were shot. Im doing all the disciplines and I think its finally catching up to me. "Im going to take a little break and then get back to business." Phelan needed a top-12 result to meet the alpine qualification criteria for Sochi. "It started off shaky and then I got faster and faster down the course," she said. "For the second run I knew I had to clean up the top and I think it went pretty well. I just kind of went for it." Schild got her record-setting win in impressive style. Lying 0.69 seconds behind in sixth after the opening leg, she used a blistering second run to finish in one minute 55.63 seconds and beat American teenager Mikaela Shiffrin, who led the competition after the first run. Shiffrin finished 0.41 behind. Olympic slalom champion Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany was third, 0.63 behind Schild. "It was tough for me," said Schild, who celebrated her fourth career win in a Lienz slalom. "I had not a good feeling in the first run. In the second, my skiing felt really well and I just tried to point my skis down." The victory was Schilds 54th career podium in slalom. She is now tied with fellow Austrian Annemarie Moser-Proell (downhill) for the second most podiums in one discipline. Only another Austrian skier, Renate Goetschl, has more, with 59 top-three finishes in downhill. Shiffrin has never made a secret of her admiration for Schild, making her defeat by the Austrian bearable. "I always want to win but she skied better and was faster," Shiiffrin said. Biff Pocoroba Jersey. "I am OK with taking second place. If she skies better, I am all for it. She is still one of my idols and she keeps inspiring me. As long as I am on the podium with her, I am happy." Shiffrin lost out on the chance to become the youngest winner of five slaloms in one calendar year. At 18 years and 291 days old, the American would have been 67 days younger than Janica Kostelic when the Croatian standout won five slaloms in 2000. However, the missed record didnt bother Shiffrin too much. "I am happy with a podium," Shiffrin said, adding "its a bit disappointing" to lose her first-run lead after failing to find her rhythm in the second. In two years since getting her first podium here in 2011, Shiffrin has 12 top-three finishes including five wins. She looked set for her sixth when she took the lead after the first run. In an increasingly heavy rain, Shiffrin was slowed by a mistake as she almost skied out four gates from the finish but still beat the field by 0.22. "I felt really good and the snow was awesome, so all good," said Shiffrin, who has been dominating slalom racing in 2013, winning the world title and the World Cup discipline title. Shiffrin maintained her lead in this seasons slalom standings with 202 points, two clear of Schild. Hoefl-Riesch went top of the overall standings with 611 points, edging Liechtensteins Tina Weirather by two as well. Many racers struggled with the rainy conditions, with Maria Pietilae-Holmner of Sweden and Kathrin Zettel of Austria, who were second and third respectively after the opening run, failing to finish. Hoefl-Riesch, fourth after the opening run, took full advantage. "Its a nice feeling," the German said. "Of course I benefited from others not finishing but I am just happy to get to the podium." Having won the overall title in 2011, Hoefl-Riesch is again one of the main contenders for this seasons crystal globe, with four-time champion Lindsey Vonn suffering from a knee injury and defending champion Tina Maze struggling to match her outstanding results from last season. The Slovenian finished more than three seconds off the lead in 15th. "The chance to compete for the overall title hasnt been as good for a long time as it is now," said Hoefl-Riesch, who is considering Weirather, Austrias Anna Fenninger en Switzerlands Lara Gut as her main challengers. "Regarding the overall title, its good to earn points here as my rivals dont do slalom." The womens World Cup continues with another slalom next Sunday in Bormio, Italy. ' ' '

    • LOS ANGELES -- Doc Rivers push to transform DeAndre Jordan into a dominant interior defender is already paying dividends. Chiefs Super Bowl Jerseys . Challenged by Rivers before the season began to win the NBAs defensive player of the year award, Jordan is working toward the honour with the kind of performance he had against the Pelicans. Jordan had 14 points and 20 rebounds -- two off his career high -- and Blake Griffin had 21 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out with 4:05 left in the Los Angeles Clippers 108-95 victory Wednesday night. "Its fun to take on that challenge," Jordan said. "Its part of my job to be energetic. If Im not playing well I can still play with energy and that spark to get other guys going." Chris Paul added his own double-double against his former team, with 12 points and 11 assists in the Clippers third straight win. "Outstanding," Paul said of Jordans effort. "He had five blocks, too. He was MVP of the game. We were a little sluggish. D.J. kept telling us, Come on, fellas." Jared Dudley had 20 points, one of seven Clippers in double figures. Jamal Crawford scored 17 points, making 10 of 11 free throws, and Darren Collison added 14, hitting all nine of his free throws. "D.J. kept us in it with his defence and rebounding," Clippers coach Rivers said. "Hes just going after things. He accepts his role and hes become a star in it. Hes still going to score by doing all of that stuff." Anthony Davis led the Pelicans with 24 points and 12 rebounds in his return after missing seven games with a broken left hand. "Its great just to get back out there with my teammates, have fun and do the things that Im used to doing," he said. "Ive got to get back in a rhythm. You can work out for as much as you want and train as much as you want, but that game rhythm is a lot different. Hopefully it wont take me long to get my shot back and the plays I usually make and get back in the groove." Ryan Anderson added 17 points, Jrue Holiday had 13 points and 10 assists, and Tyreke Evans had a triple-double of 11 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists after missing the past two games with a sprained left ankle. "When I got in and started running up and down the floor, it was a little tight. But coach kept me out there and it got looser," Evans said. "It was big (getting himself and Davis back), but were going to need everybody on this team. Everybodys a big key, but were still learning to play with each other." Austin Rivers, the 21-year-old son of Doc Rivers, had two points while playing 14 minutes in a reserve role. "Its my first time beating him so thats nice," said the elder Rivers, whose wife watched the game on TV. "She was cheering for Austin 100 per cent." New Orleans lost for the third straight game and fifth time in its past seven. The Clippers reserves carried them in the fourth when Griffin didnt score before fouling out. Willie Green hit two of their five 3-pointers in the quarter, with Dudley adding two of his four and Paul tossing one in, too. "We kept a double-digit lead but you never felt comfortable because we couldnt pull away," Rivers said. "We played pretty flat." The Clippers pulled away in the third after the Pelicans closed within four points. Crawford beat the shot clock with a 3-pointer, launching a 15-2 run that extended the Clippers lead to 70-53. Griffin scored six points. Davis scored the Pelicans final four points to get them to 78-65 heading into the fourth. Raonic suffered a major letdown 24 hours after knocking out world No. 6 Andy Murray, managing only four aces and getting just one unsuccessful break chance on his Ukrainian opponents serve. Raonic last played in the semis six months ago in Tokyo after winning the Bangkok title. Given the political situation in his troubled homeland, Dolgopolov appeared as the obvious Californian crowd favourite, with a Ukrainian flag hanging in the stands over the empty seats of tournament owner and software billionaire Larry Ellison. Raonics loss also prevented the 23-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., from returning to a top 10 ranking on the ATP Tour. He will move on now to next weeks start of the Miami Masters, where he had to withdraw in 2013 before his third-round match due to illness. Raonic was broken in the second game by Dolgopolov, who set the tone for the afternoon at the Tennis Garden. The son of a tennis coach claimed the opening set in just 29 minutes. The momentum looked to be turning early in the second set, when Raonic broke for 2-0 before going up three games. But the determined Dolgopolov came back and won a marathon eight-minute fifth game to break Raonic. Raonic saved four break points in the game but double-faulted on a valuable game point before Dolgopolovs down-the-line winner cur Raonics set lead to 3-2. • NEW YORK -- Turning around their fourth-quarter performance was a small step. Elgton Jenkins Super Bowl Jersey . Pablo Prigionis goal is for the New York Knicks to turn around their whole season. "I believe we can change this situation (by) working hard every day and try to play 100 per cent every possession, every day, and I dont know, keep going," Prigioni said. "We cant be sad because of what we did in the last 20 games. We have to look in front and just keep going." Carmelo Anthony scored 35 points, Andrea Bargnani added 23 and the Knicks beat the Atlanta Hawks 111-106 on Saturday night. Prigioni had a season-high 11 points and was a spark in the decisive 11-0 run midway through the final period as the Knicks finished strong one night after a fourth-quarter flop cost them in a loss at Boston. New York could have been looking at a three-game winning streak, but was outscored 22-13 in the final 12 minutes of its 90-86 loss to the Celtics. "We werent stale tonight in the fourth quarter like we were last night," coach Mike Woodson said. "We played what, four games in five days, and it was kind of nice to see us bounce back like that." Lou Williams scored a season-high 27 points in his best game since returning from knee surgery, but the Hawks committed 27 turnovers -- most in the NBA this season -- that led to 36 points and negated their 60.6 per cent shooting. "I think tonight was a night where the most aggressive team won. I think you give a lot of credit to the Knicks," Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. "Defensively, they were creating a lot of turnovers, creating a lot of problems for us." Paul Millsap scored 18 but had nine turnovers and fouled out. Al Horford finished with 17 points. The Knicks wore their regular whites instead of the alternate orange uniforms theyve been wearing for weekend home games. Theyre 0-6 in the orange, including a 110-90 loss to the Hawks at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 16, when they caused a colour clash with Atlantas red. New Yorks lead was just 87-83 before Anthonys 3-pointer with 6:26 remaining. Prigioni then hit one, followed that with a steal and a layup, and then fed Bargnani for another 3 that made it 98-83 with 5:11 to play. Starting for injured point guard Raymond Felton, Prigioni also had six assists and harassed the Hawks ballhandlers into a number of mistakes. Kyle Korver scored 13 points, making four of Atlantas six 3-pointers in the third quarter to extend his NBA record to 93 straight games with at least one. That helped the Hawks pull to 81-77, but they coughed it up seven times in the fourth. "We couldnt capitalize off of the mistakes they made," Horford said. "There were a few times we had a fast break in which we could have scored and we threw the ball away. I think that cost us the game. That kind of deflated us as a team." Still without injured starters Tyson Chandler and Felton, the Knicks also were missing Kenyon Martin, who has a strained left abdominal muscle. But they somewhat surprisingly had Amare Stoudemire, who said Friday he expected to be ordered to take the night off by the training staff in what was the teams fourth game in five days. Instead, Stoudemire -- who was barred from playing on back-to-back nights earlier this season and had his minutes restricted coming off another knee surgery -- said he felt great and wanted to play. And face it, the Knicks need all the help they can get. Woodson acknowledged that Stoudemire probably wouldnt have played if the Knicks were 15-5, but theyre only 7-16. Stoudemire scored nine. Atlanta had a one-point lead with under 5 minutes left in the second quarter before Tim Hardaway Jr. made a 3-pointer and dunked, starting a 12-0 run that gave the Knicks a 52-41 advantage. J.R. Smith got the start for Martin after taking just one shot in the loss at Boston. Smith said after the game he was focusing on distributing to his teammates, an idea so out of character that Woodson had trouble keeping a straight face when asked about it Saturday. Smith took eight shots, but made only one and finished with two points. Next up is the Nashville Predators at Rexall Place on Tuesday. The Oilers, who are headed for an eighth straight year out of the playoffs, were able to halt a two-game slide in their last trip to the ice. Justin Schultz scored a tiebreaking power-play goal in the third period to help Edmonton edge the Carolina Hurricanes, 2-1, on the road. "Finally, our power play was able to chip in and win us a game," said Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins. Ben Scrivens made 29 saves for Edmonton, which went 2-1-1 on a four-game road trip and will now begin a six-game stay at Rexall Place. The Oilers are 12-16-3 as the home team this season. The Predators missed the playoffs for only the second time in nine seasons last spring and the club is nine points out of the last postseason berth in the West with just 14 games remaining on its schedule. Nashville hopes to pick up a much-needed win when it kicks off a four-game road trip Tuesday against the Oilers, who are 11 points behind thhe Preds in the Western Conference standings. Aaron Jones Super Bowl Jersey. Edmonton, however, has won the first two of three meetings with the Predators this season. The Oilers posted a 3-0 win in Nashville on Nov. 28 and then recorded a 5-1 win at Rexall Place on Jan. 26. The Oilers have won three of four in the series overall and Nashville has lost two in a row and four of its last five tilts in Edmonton. Nashville was on a three-game winning streak before running into the NHL- leading St. Louis Blues on Saturday. Patrik Berglund scored twice and Ryan Miller turned away 30 shots to help the Blues record a 4-1 road triumph in the Music City. Eric Nystrom scored the only goal of the game for the Predators, while Pekka Rinne gave up all four goals on 26 shots in the loss. "It was just one of those games where we couldnt get much going," said Nashville head coach Barry Trotz. "And when we did get shots on net, their guy was on top of it." Nashville won all three games on its recent winning streak on the road and is 14-12-6 as the visiting team this season. The Preds also will make stops in Vancouver, Calgary and Chicago during this important road trip. ' ' '

Radim Vrbata scored the lone shootout goal to lead the Coyotes past the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 on Monday night. Vrbata beat Ben Bishop with a backhand. Mike Smith stopped all three Lightning shootout shots. Brandon McMillan, Martin Erat and Mikkel Boedker scored for the Coyotes, who trailed eighth-place Dallas by one point in the Western Conference. Phoenix was coming off a 3-2 loss Saturday at Washington, a game which the Capitals had three unanswered third-period goals. "Were right in the hunt," Smith said. "Were in the thick of things, too, and every point matters right now. So I think you see a desperation from guys on the ice, lying down, blocking shots." Ondrej Palat got the Lightning even at 3-all with his second goal of the game, coming from the low slot with the Tampa Bay net empty and 37.2 seconds left in regulation. Palat also had an assist. "I thought we did a lot of things well tonight," Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said. "Even though they got a late one on us, we found a way to get points, and thats the biggest thing about our season right now. We need points every night." Tampa Bay, 1-4-2 since the Olympic break ended, also got a goal from Tyler Johnson. After Erat scored following an errant defensive zone pass by Lightning defenceman Victor Hedman 2:13 into the third, Boedker put the Coyotes ahead 3-2 with a rebound goal at 7:48. Bishop ended up out of position when Hedmans pass on Erats goal took a bad bounce. "We were just way too lackadaisical," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said of Erats goal. "The third one, weve run that coverage a thousand times. Its a blown assignment. Those dont go in in midget hockey, let alone the NHL. Or they shouldnt, anyway." Palat gave the Lightning a 2-1 lead from in-close off a pass from Ryan Callahan with 52.3 seconds left in the second. Johnson scored his fourth short-handed goal and 20th overall this season to put the Lightning up 1-0 at 11:26 of the first. With Steven Stamkos off for hooking, the rookie went around stumbling defenceman Keith Yandle and put a backhand past Smith. After not having a short-handed goal last season, Tampa Bay has nine in 2013-14. The Lightning have a short-handed goal in three straight games and six of their past 15. McMillan tied it at 1 on a rebound goal 61 seconds into the second after Bishop stopped Yandles shot. Tampa Bay defenceman Sami Salo left after three shifts in the first period with a lower body injury. Stamkos was pointless in his third straight game since returning from a broken right shin that sidelined him for 45 games. "Its going to take him a little time to get back to normal," Cooper said. Stamkos played 23:31 and had two shots. NOTES: Boedker stopped a 13-game goal drought. ... Just not terribly far. Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus hit the ceremonial tee shots Thursday morning with fans already lining both sides of the first fairway. Still competitive even after all these years, Nicklaus went last and hit a drive that went about a yard past Players shot. The "Big Three" combined to win 13 green jackets, including seven in a row at the start of the 1960s. This Masters is far less predictable. Without Tiger Woods or a dominant figure, its seen as the most wide-open Masters in years. A bunch of brash Augusta rookies are eager to fill Woods shoes. And the last two dozen majors have been divvied up among 21 winners. Early Thursday, Stewart Cink, Ian Woosnam and Jonas Blixt were all 1-under-par, leading among the early starters. Ryan Moore, who won the Par 3 contest Wednesday, thinks it might be time to break the curse of that winner never winning the tournament. "You never know," he said. "Someone has got to break that (Par 3) curse at some point in time, so hopefully its me. Who knows? I might go shoot 8 under or something, make a couple of hole-in-ones." As unlikely as that sounds, pretty much everything else is up for grabs at this Masters. Recovering from back surgery, Woods is sitting out the opening major of the year for the first time since turning pro. Even as his dominance waned in recent years, he was always the clear-cut favourite coming into Augusta, where he has won four times. Now, as Moore said, who knows? Jason Day, Sergio Garcia and former Masters champion Zach Johnson are the only players from the top 10 who have won anywhere in the world this year. Only one of the past seven winners on the PGA Tour was ranked in the top 75. "I think if youre outside the top 50 in the world this week, youve got a great chance," U.S. Open champion Justin Rose said with a laugh. Woods is out of golf until the summer, but the show goes on at a tournament that rarely fails to deliver plenty of drama. "We miss Tiger, as does the entire golf world," Masters chairman Billy Payne said. "Nevertheless, this is the Masters. This is what we hope is the best tournament in the world, one of the greatest sporting events. Darnell Savage Jr. Super Bowl Jersey. And I think we will have a very impressive audience and have another great champion to crown this year." That could be Phil Mickelson, who last year won the British Open at age 42 and now has a chance to join Woods and Arnold Palmer with a fourth green jacket. It could be Adam Scott, trying to take over as the worlds No. 1 player and join Woods, Nick Faldo and Jack Nicklaus as the only back-to-back winners. While Woods last won a green jacket in 2005, he had finished out of the top six only once since then. Thats what made him such a compelling figure at Augusta. He always seemed to be there. "Its a huge loss," Scott said. "But, as every year here, this event produces something special no matter what. It just has a way of doing it. Its not going to involve Tiger this year, but it will involve someone else and it will be a memorable event anyway." Rose falls on the side of experience -- knowing where to miss, knowing where you cant afford to miss, where the hole locations tend to be on the contoured greens and using the slope to get the ball close. "Always you can have the unknowns," he said. "But I would say 15 guys are pretty strong favourites." Fuzzy Zoeller was the last Augusta rookie to claim the green jacket in 1979, and the only other ones to do it were the first two: Horton Smith and Gene Sarazen. Then again, there are 24 first-timers in the 98-player field, a record (except for the first tournament), and none of them will concede an insurmountable learning curve. Besides, no one is dominating golf at the moment. Jimmy Walker has the most PGA Tour wins (three) this season, but this is his first Masters. Scott had a chance to go to No. 1 three weeks ago at Bay Hill, but he lost a three-shot lead in the final round to Matt Every, who had never won in his career. "Doesnt matter if youve played here once or if youve played here 50 times," said Patrick Reed, who has won three times in the past eight months. "When it comes down to it, its just going to be that whoever is playing the best is going to walk away with the trophy." Who knows? Maybe it will be Moore. Hes certainly not fretting over a supposed curse. "Im not afraid of it," he said. ' ' '

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Andy Dorman and Kelyn Rowe scored in the second half to lead the New England Revolution to a 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City in the first leg of their Eastern Conference semifinals series on Saturday night. Dorman put the Revolution on the scoreboard in the 55th minute, while Rowe made it 2-0 in the 67th. Aurelien Collin pulled Sporting within one in the 69th. "I thought it was a hard-fought battle between two teams fighting for everything," Revolution coach Jay Heaps said. "It certainly wasnt a pretty game, but (rather) two teams pushing hard and two teams trying to get ahead in the playoffs." The Revolution, appearing in the post-season for the first time since 2009, entered the match with a 501-minute regular season goal drought against Sporting Kansas City, a streak that reaches back to the 2011 season. The Revolution spent much of the first half trying to find their rhythm and ending the streak. "We played with a lot of discipline, and we were very well organized," Sporting goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen said. "We forced their back four to play the long balls up to the striker, our centre backs won the ball, and our midfielders were good on the second balls. The Revolution had to survive an early scare before they were able to step on the gas. In the 18thh minute, Graham Zusis corner kick found Chance Myers, who headed the ball toward the goal before Lee Nguyen cleared it off the line. Bart Starr Super Bowl Jersey. "Some games, we put two players on the post and sometimes, we put one player on the post," Heaps said. "But tonight, we made the right call and put two players on the post." After a first half filled with erratic play from both teams, the Revolution were able to break through early in the second half. Diego Fagundez blasted a shot that was initially saved by Nielsen before the rebound fell to Juan Agudelo. The Revolution striker was able to direct on frame and Dorman tapped it through. Rowe made it a two-goal advantage 12 minutes later when Nguyen slid it toward him and his touch redirected it into the back of the net. Sporting struck back two minutes later. Amid a chaotic fight for the ball inside the Revolution box, Collin was able to steer C.J. Sapongs ball into the net. "I think we showed how strong this team is to come back, and that goal gave us a good life line," Nielsen said. The clubs will play the second leg of the series on Wednesday at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. The team with the most aggregate goals in the two matches will advance to the conference finals against the winner of the New York-Houston matchup. ' ' '

    • GLENDALE, Ariz. Framber Valdez Jersey . -- The Phoenix Coyotes have won three in a row for the first time in 4 1/2 months, and theyve done it just in time for the stretch run to the playoffs. Radim Vrbata and Antoine Vermette scored first-period goals and the Phoenix Coyotes held on for a 2-1 win over the Florida Panthers on Thursday night. Coyotes goalie Mike Smith had a shutout until Chris Gomez scored with 4:08 to play. Smith had 22 saves. The game was no thing of beauty. "They all cant all be masterpieces," Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said. "We got up two goals and we won. Well leave it at that." The victory, coupled with Dallas loss to Philadelphia, put the Coyotes four points ahead of the Stars for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West. Phoenix has won five of six and seven of nine. "Maybe desperation," Vrbata said when asked what was driving the recent success. "We know where we are in the standings and that we need every point we can get. We lost too many games before, games we should have won. " Smiths play has been central to the recent wins and he was strong again Thursday. "Before they got that goal, he was outstanding," Tippett said, "and then he got some after that." There werent many shots, Tippett said, but several were difficult saves. Robert Luongo had 20 saves for the Panthers. The Coyotes scored their first goal on a power play after Floridas Jimmy Hayes was sent to the penalty box for holding. Oliver Ekman-Larssons shot from directly in front of the net glanced off Martin Hanzals skate and was knocked into the net by Vrbata for his 20th goal of the season. Phoenix killed two penalties the rest of the period, then made it 2-0 when Vermette hit the puck into a virtually empty net off a deflected shot by Mike Stone. Stones shot bounced off Luongos midsection and right to Vermette. Luongo complained that the goal should have been disallowed because Mikkel Boedker had knocked the goalie to the ice, creating an opening for the goal, but the score stood and it was 2-0 after two. "I think they missed it," Florida coach Peter Horachek said. ".. It should have been an interference call. A lot of those things are going to happen and youre going to have to deal with them, everybody else does, but when you look back at it, it makes it 1-1." Luongo said hed have to look at the tape, but added "its tough to do my job when I end up in the corner." Tippett said Boedker was shoved in to the goalie. "Theyre guy pushed," Tippett said. "I thought it was the right call. Boedker wouldnt have been in there if he hadnt got pushed." "If he hadnt been shoved, he wouldnt have been in there," Tippett said. It was Vermettes team-leading 22nd goal. Hanzal and Ekman-Larsson got assists on Vrbatas goal, Stone and Boedker on the second. Gomezs goal, his first in 36 games, came on a wrist shot that fluttered past Smith. The three-game winning streak is Phoenixs longest since it won five in a row from Oct. 26 to Nov. 5. • As I sit here in Milwaukee waiting for the Raptors last game of the first half of the season to be played tonight, I give you five quick thoughts on areas that the team needs to improve on in the second half. Steve Carlton . After a wonderful start, its been a rough recent stretch that has exposed some concerns. Nonetheless, overall its been a positive run. In order to reach their potential, here is a little food for thought. 1. DEFENSE: Its been difficult to watch of late and I must say how surprised Ive been with the deterioration from where it was early in the season. This team with much greater effort and attention to detail can be a solid club. Right now, not even close. A quick observation - Dwane Casey had great success in Dallas teaching the zone. This team struggles to guard dribble penetration and protect the paint. Why not a little zone to hide some weak perimeter defenders and change the look on certain possessions? Just a thought. This team concerns me. When their offense goes south, the D has to be able to find ways to win ugly. They havent been able to. Thats what playoff basketball is. 2. TERRENCE ROSS AND AMIR JOHNSON: Are these guys starters at this stage of their respective careers? If yes, then we need much better play. They have been inconsistent and it holds back their unit on occasion. Need greater focus and consistent effort and productivity. Cant be as patient as youd like. 3 OFFENSIVE EXECUTION: Deterioration on this end as well. We saw this during the playoffs against the Nets. When you really guard them and body them with physical force, they wilt under the pressure. This is a good offensive club thats become too nonchalant and individual of late. Player and ball movement is a must and the screening and usage can improve. You do that and the turnovers will decrease. 4. HABITS: This is my biggest issue right now. Somewhere along the path from Oct 1 to now this group has taken some shortcuts and its showing now. Seems like this club only plays at optimal level when it feels challenged. The Backs to the Wall mentality they display is terrific, I just dont see it as their daily makeup yet. I look at the best teams and they sustain sound habits and demand the optimum from themselves for long periods. This group can do it. Commitment time. 5. ATLANTIC DIVISION: Congrats! 9.5 games up with 42 to play. Unless you totally screw it up and/or experience multiple injuries, youre going to win back-to-back Division titles. Cool! Heres the question; Are you going to be satisfied with that or is the focus now going to be on being an elite Eastern Conference team? Success has a way of messing with your focus. Do you really want to play a brutal opponent at the fifth seed (Im saying it will be Cleveland - good luck winning that series) even though you have home court as a fourth seed? In the Atlantic, you have three teams in a rebuild mode (Im being kind) and the Nets up for sale and trying to figure out what to do. Great spot to be in to get a top-four seed. Some of its you being good and some of the rest is the other four teams being so lousy. Dont fool yourself. To make next step as a franchise, theyve got to grow to the point that they can compete and win a first round series. How does that happen? Not being satisfied and pushing on to a new and greater challenge. Player internal leadership, professionalism and maturity are a must. This team has good guys. They can do it. Now time to do so.Mike Shannon . Booth picked up 65 caps after making her national team debut in 2002 at the age of 17. She most recently played for Sky Blue FC of the National Womens Soccer League. "It just felt like it was my time to move on," she said in a phone interview from her hometown of Burlington, Ont. Willie McGee .Y. -- Sore nose and all, Sidney Crosby had a goal and three assists to help Pittsburgh beat Buffalo 5-3 on Friday night, snapping the Penguins mini-slump and slowing the Sabres late-season surge.MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers have activated right-handed pitcher Brandon Kintzler from the disabled list, reinforcing a bullpen off to a strong start. Kintzler had been sidelined since April 9 with a strained rotator cuff. Manager Ron Roenicke said he will likely ease Kintzler back into his role as one of his primary setup men. Milwaukee had the second-lowest bullpen ERA in baseball entering Thursday at 2.52. Kintzler is 1-0 and hasnt allowed a run in his five appearances this year. Harrison Bader. The Brewers optioned right-hander Alfredo Figaro to Triple-A Nashville to make room. Figaro pitched once, going three innings Tuesday and allowing Chase Headleys homer in the 12th inning of a 2-1 loss to San Diego. The Brewers are off Thursday and open a three-game set Friday with the Chicago Cubs. ' ' '

LOUIS -- No. 2 Wichita State is still perfect. Calm and collected, too, in a 32nd straight win. The top-seeded Shockers stayed unbeaten with an 80-58 romp over Evansville in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley tournament Friday. "I love how this team goes about their business, their approach and how resolute they are," coach Gregg Marshall said. "Theyre really, really focused and locked in to the next challenge, and thats how you win 32 in a row." If theyre feeling pressure because of the streak, their opponents never noticed. "Fantastic to see what theyre doing," Evansville guard D.J. Balentine said after scoring 31 points. "If people say they dont deserve a No. 1 seed, thats silly." Cleanthony Early and Ron Baker scored 17 points apiece and Wichita State set a tournament record with 11 blocked shots, shot 51 per cent and held Evansville to 37 per cent. "Got to have some erasers back there," point guard Fred VanVleet said. It was intimidating on both ends, with everyone sharing in the success and no one taking more than 11 shots. Just how Marshall drew it up. "This team is very unselfish," Baker said. "If we continue to play like that, I like our chances." Balentine made seven 3-pointers for ninth-seeded Evansville (14-19), which lost twice by an average of 15 points to Wichita State (32-0) in the regular season. The Purple Aces led 20-19 midway through the first half before Wichita State started pulling away. "Its hard for us to just make passes from A to B," coach Marty Simmons said. "They play hard. They challenge every catch. Their intensity is outstanding." Kadeem Coleby had six of the blocks for the Shockers, who are two victories shy of matching the NCAA record of 34 wins to start a season by UNLV in 1990-91. UNLV was perfect before losing in the NCAA semifinals to Duke that season. Wichita State beat every Valley school twice in the regular season and takes on the Missouri State-Illinois State winner in the semifinals Saturday. Rogers Hornsby. Missouri State has come the closest to beating the Shockers, losing by three in overtime at home in January after blowing a 19-point lead. This is rarified air for the Shockers, who havent been ranked this high since 1981 when they were also No. 2. They went to the Final Four last year as a No. 9 seed and are two wins away from a first Valley title since 1987 and a likely No. 1 seed. "Theyre disciplined in everything they do," Simmons said. "Theyre well-schooled. Theyre well-taught. They dont beat themselves." Balentine was 7 for 14 from 3-point range, falling one short of the school record while slowed at the finish by a hip injury. He led the Valley with a 22.5-point average and scored 30 points in the play-in game victory over eighth-seeded Drake on Thursday. "I thought once we got Balentine to miss a couple shots, we were in much better shape," Marshall said. "He was incredible." Egidiju Mockevicius added 11 points and 11 rebounds for Evansville. Early had a four-point play and a three-point play and ran down Blake Simmons to swat away a layup late in the first half. Baker had five points in a 17-5 run that made it 40-27 with 1:34 left in the first half. "We dont get any foul calls in practice," Early said. "Its like Im trying to make the basket regardless because I feel like I might not get the foul call." The Shockers were just as relentless in the second half. A 15-5 run put them up 20 points with just under 12 minutes to go. Baker was 4 for 6 from 3-point range and Tekele Cotton was 3 for 5. VanVleet, the Valley player of the year, had nine points, five assists and four steals. Chadrack Lufile had 11 points and seven rebounds, and Early added six rebounds and two blocks. "I dont tell good players to pass on good shots," Marshall said. "When its your turn to shoot and youre open, I want you to shoot it, and, in fact, I get upset with them when they dont. "I think theyve got character, for sure." ' ' '

    • HOUSTON -- To Houston manager Bo Porter, theres no one playing better in the majors right now than Jose Altuve. Wholesale NFL Jerseys . The Astros second baseman shied away from agreeing with his skipper. Instead, he kept up his impressive show. Altuve got three more hits and stole two bases Sunday as the Astros defeated the Detroit Tigers 6-4. Altuve finished the three-game series 9 for 14 and leads big leagues with 116 hits. Hes already stolen a career-high 36 bases -- he swiped second in the first inning, and set a franchise record with a steal in six straight games. "Ive seen some players locked in in all my years of playing," Porter said. "But the impact with which Jose Altuve is having on the baseball game, I would have to really sit down and think about or have some numbers put in front of me that would make me think that there is someone whos had more of an impact on a baseball game the way hes having an impact right now." Altuve took the compliment in stride, saying, "Hes my manager, he has to say that." "I have to be ready every game to get on base," he said. "I know the guys that I have behind me, if I get on base, something good is going to happen." Altuve became the third player since 1904 with four straight games with multiple steals, joining Ray Chapman in 1917 and Bill Dahlen in 1904, according information from the Elias Sports Bureau provided by the Astros. "Im going to try to keep getting on base, and if I have a chance to take the next base, I am going to do it," Altuve said. Scott Feldman (4-5) allowed two runs in six innings to earn his first win since May 26. Feldman, who snapped a personal three-game losing streak, has allowed three runs or less in each of his last three starts. "They have a great lineup," Feldman said. The Astros scored three times in the first against Drew Smyly (4-7). Altuve singled, stole second and scored on George Springers double. Two batters later, Jesus Guzman hit an RBI single and scored on Hoes sacrifice fly. "I felt like that was very important," Porter said. "Losing the game the way we lost the game last night (4-3 in the ninth) I thought that our guys did a great job coming out setting the tempo. • Memphis, TN (SportsNetwork. Larry Johnson Jersey .com) - Zach Randolph registered 17 points with 14 rebounds to help the Memphis Grizzlies in a 101-83 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night. Jeff Green led the Grizzlies with 18 points and Vince Carter added 13 points off the bench. Memphis, which defeated the Sixers 120-115 in overtime on Dec. 13, has taken five straight against them in the series. Jerami Grant deposited a career-high 16 points and Michael Carter-Williams posted 10 points with six assists for Philadelphia, which has dropped five straight games overall. The Sixers held a brief lead in the first quarter until Jeff Green kicked off a 12-2 run for Memphis with a three-point play. Tony Allen capped the spurt to give the Grizzlies a 20-15 lead. Memphis led by six after the first quarter, then it opened the second on a 13-5 run to stretch the margin to 40-26. Memphis was Memphis in the second period, Sixers coach Brett Brown said. (The Grizzlies) are men. They are physical. Philadelphia was within striking distance minutes later, but the hosts doubled up the Sixers 14-7 over the final 4:20 of the half to grab a 60-41 lead at the break. Memphis maintained a large advantage throughout the second half, leading by as many as 25 en route to its sixth win in seven games. Game Notes The teams combined for 42 turnovers ... Each team had 11 players score at least two points ... Memphis had a 52-32 edge in the paint ... The Sixers led the fastbreak 20-12. Harrison Butker Jersey . So this was one unusual postponement. The game between the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds was called off Saturday night because of a water main break just steps from the primary entrance to the ballpark. It will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Sunday. The first game will start at 4:10 p.m. EDT and the second at 9:10 p.m. The Rockies originally said the game would be delayed 30 minutes, and that city officials were on their way to fix the issue. There were pools of water visible on the street and sidewalk near Blake Street. Restrooms inside Coors Field were not working and there were only limited concessions as the water was turned off to the stadium. Yellow tape was put up to keep fans away from the street and police officers patrolled the area. About 45 minutes after the scheduled first pitch, the Denver Office of Emergency Management requested the game be postponed. "We were told no restrooms. No concessions. You have to have them," said fan Don Evans of Denver. "Important parts of a game. They told us theyd have everything fixed." Stacy Chesney, a spokesperson for Denver Water, said a pipe installed in the 1900s ruptured around 7:30 p.m. EDT. She also said Coors Field was the only customer in the area without water. "Were working as fast as possible to get it repaired," Chesney said. "Were really sorry for the inconvenience to the fans." All this with the sun out and the temperature in the high 80s. "I wasnt sure what was happening," said Reds manager Bryan Price, who met with Rockies skipper Walt Weiss at home plate for several minutes before the game was scrubbed. "There was water on the road, and next thing they are calling the game." Rockies second baseman Josh Rutledge was just as stunned. He said it reminded him of a time when he was with the Tri City Dust Devils in Pasco, Washington, during rookie ball and a fire in the area interrupted a contest. "But I dont know if the game got cancelled," Rutledge said. "You cant make this stuff up." This has simply been that kind of season for the Rockies. Theyre last in the National League and in danger of losing 100 games for the first time in their history. Demarcus Robinson Jersey. "Whatever can happen will this year," Ryan Lewis of Billings, Montana, said. "Id be surprised if we didnt have a hurricane." The impromptu postponement did help out a few banged-up sluggers. Reds first baseman Todd Frazier was going to take a second night off with a strained lower back. For the Rockies, first baseman Justin Morneau was a late scratch with a stiff neck. Honouring HELTON The Rockies will retire Todd Heltons No. 17 in a ceremony Sunday. The longtime first baseman wrapped up his 17-year career in the Mile High City last season, departing as the franchises career leader in games played (2,247), hits (2,519), doubles (592), homers (369) and RBIs (1,406). Helton will be the centre of attention, something he never really craved during his career. "Hes going to have all the eyes on him," said outfielder Michael Cuddyer, who was activated off the disabled list Saturday after missing more than two months. "I know hes going to feel awkward, but he deserves to feel awkward." Cuddyer firmly believes Helton belongs in Cooperstown. "Hes a Hall of Famer," Cuddyer said. "Id put his numbers up to anybodys. Hes up there with them." TRAINERS ROOM Reds: INF Brandon Phillips (left thumb) was 0 for 2 with a walk and played seven innings during a rehab game with Triple-A Louisville on Friday. Price wants to see how the rest of the weekend goes for Phillips before making any decisions on when he might rejoin the team. "Were anxious to have him back," Price said. Rockies: LHP Franklin Morales missed his start Friday when his wife went into labour. Morales proudly announced his wife had a girl they named Mariana Elena. She was born at 5:37 p.m. Friday and weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces. UP NEXT Reds: RHP Mat Latos (4-3) will start the first game and RHP Dylan Axelrod the second. Axelrod is taking the place of Homer Bailey, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a strained right elbow. Rockies: RHP Jordan Lyles (6-1) gets the ball in the afternoon contest and LHP Yohan Flande (0-5) will go that night. Flande will try for his first major league win in his eighth start. ' ' '

In Europe, top teams seem to be largely happy with their squads after spending nearly $1 billion in the off-season. And although English league clubs are unlikely to splash cash in January, Arsenal and Chelsea could be tempted to strengthen their squads with new strikers. Chasing their first league title in 10 years, the Gunners are reportedly looking for a forward to add to France international Olivier Giroud, who ended a seven-match scoring drought with the winner at Newcastle on Sunday, ensuring that his club starts 2014 at the top. Although Giroud said Arsenal has sufficient attacking options for the remainder of the season with himself, Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hinted he could be tempted to sign a couple of new players. After failing to lure Luis Suarez, Wenger wont bid again for the Uruguay striker, who signed a new deal with Liverpool this month. "We are, as many clubs, certainly on alert. If something special turns up, we will not turn it down," Wenger said. "But we are not as well desperate because we have a big depth in our squad." Lagging two points behind Arsenal in the standings, Chelsea could also be looking for extra firepower after Samuel Etoo, Demba Ba and Fernando Torres scored only six goals between them in the league so far this season. With Ba, Juan Mata and Kevin De Bruyne possibly leaving, British media reported that Chelsea and Liverpool have held discussions about the possible arrival of Suarez at Stamford Bridge that could make up for Jose Mourinhos failure to sign Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney in the off-season. While a Suarez move to Chelsea looks highly unlikely, Monaco forward Radamel Falcao is a more realistic target for Mourinho, with the Colombian reportedly unhappy in the French league. Xabi Alonso has also been linked with a move to the Blues. After a shaky start to the season, defending champion Manchester United haas managed to limit the damages with four consecutive wins and trails Arsenal by eight points going into the new year. Jalen Hurd Super Bowl Jersey. David Moyes has not been able to replace Paul Scholes and is in need of a creative midfielder. The Red Devils manager could make a 50 million pound ($82 million) offer for Everton marvel Ross Barkley. Avoiding the drop to the second-tier League Championship is crucial, with topflight teams boosted by increased revenues. And last-place Sunderland will beef up its defence with Marcos Alonso, who will join from Fiorentina until the end of the season. "Marcos is a player that I have known well for a very long time," Sunderland manager Gus Poyet said. "He was desperate to come and play for Sunderland and he is a player I am excited to work with." Staying among the elite is also vital for West Ham. The London club is languishing in 19th place after scoring only 18 goals in 19 matches and signed 18-year-old striker Jaanai Gordon from Peterborough. Everything looks relatively quiet in Spain, too. Barcelona seems more concerned with getting Lionel Messi healthy again for the second half of the season, and will probably be more than content to have its star forward playing at full speed again. The only possible big move would be Barcelona signing a replacement for goalkeeper Victor Valdes, who has said he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. Atletico Madrid is reportedly reinforcing its title challenge by bringing in midfielder Jose Sosa from Metalist. In Germany, Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski is expected to confirm in the coming days that he will be leaving for Bayern Munich at the end of the season, while AC Milan has already announced the arrivals of Adil Rami and Keisuke Honda. In France, winger Jeremy Menez is lacking playing time at Paris Saint-Germain and has been linked with a move to Juventus to boost his chances of making the trip to the World Cup in Brazil, and Bastia signed former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse on an 18-month deal. Abreu reached 20 homers in his 58th game, the third fewest in major league history behind Wally Berger (51 games) and Mark McGwire (56 games). The Cuban first baseman lined an 0-2 offspeed pitch from three-time All-Star Tim Hudson deep into the left-field bullpen for a two-run homer in the first inning . Hes also homered off Cy Young winners David Price, Clayton Kershaw and Justin Verlander so far this year. "Were happy with what hes doing," manager Robin Ventura said. "Hes getting some hits and important RBIs against some great pitchers, so thats a good sign." Abreu didnt know his 20th homer moved him into elite company. "I wasnt aware of this happening, but its a great thing and I welcome it," the 27-year-old said through a translator. "Im just going to continue to help the team win, and thats what its all about right now." White Sox ace Chris Sale (6-1) laboured, giving up three runs and eight hits through six-plus innings. The left-hander allowed 11 baserunners and at least one in all but one inning, but he walked only one and struck out seven. "I was good, but my fastball command was a little shaky," Sale said. "I really had to battle through it." "Obviously, you know youve got your hands full with Hudson on the other side over there. Hes been nothing short of dominant all year," he said. Hudson (7-3) struggled in his shortest start of the year, permitting seven runs and 12 hits in 4 2-3 innings. He entered the game with an MLB-leading 1.81 ERA. "You score six runs on a day I pitch, we should win these games," Hudson said "For me, thats the frustrating part." "Giving up seven runs with a pitcher like they put out there in Sale, thats a tough hole to put those guys in." Ronald Belisario pitched the final 1 2-3 innings to earn his seventh save. San Francisco has allowed 35 runs in its last five games, and 53 in losing eight of its last nine. "You get the hitting, the pitchers, they have their moments," manager Bruce Bochy said "Thats what really puts you in a losing streak, but the only way you get out of it, hey, you focus forward and keep going hard." Tyler Flowers singled up the middle with the bases loaded in the fourth to drive in two runs and extend Chicagos lead to 4-0. The Giants cut it to 4-2 in the fifth when Buster Posey singled in a run and Pablo Sandoval hit a sacrifice fly. Dunns homer to right against Hudson with none out in the bottom of the inning put Chicago up 7-2. Sale was replaced by Jake Petricka with none out in the seventh after Juan Perez singled and Gregor Blanco walked. The Giants loaded the bases, but got only one run, on Poseys sacrifice fly to make it 7-3. Blanco doubled in a run and Hunter Pence drove in another with a grounder off Zach Putnam. The Giants added their final run in the ninth on Tyler Colvins sacrifice fly. NOTES: Dunns homer was his 452nd, tying him for 35th with Carl Yastrzemski. ... Sale made his first career start against San Francisco. He hit two batters in the game after hitting only one all season. ... The game started 12 minutes late because of rain. ... Giants OF Angel Pagan (lower back) was out of the lineup for a third straight game and is listed as day-to-day. ... Posey was back behind the plate. He was at DH on Tuesday night after taking a foul off mask on Sunday. ... The White Sox open an 11-game road trip on Thursday night at Minnesota. Chicagos Jose Quintana (3-7) is scheduled to face Minnesotas Yohan Pino, who will make his MLB debut. ... The Giants next game is at Arizona on Friday. Tim Lincecum (5-4) will face Josh Collmenter (4-4). Martinas Rankin Jersey . Van Slyke drove in a career-high four runs with two homers off struggling left-hander Tony Cingrani, and the Los Angeles Dodgers pulled away to a 6-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night, a rare comfortable win in their pitching-dominated series. Larry Johnson Jersey . -- Arizona came out of its last meeting with California a bit discombobulated, hurting from its first loss and the loss of forward Brandon Ashley for the rest of the season.Colorado Springs, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - USA Swimming has suspended Michael Phelps six months for violating the organizations Code of Conduct. The suspension comes nearly a week after Phelps was arrested and charged with DUI in Baltimore, Maryland, and one day after the swimmer checked himself in for alcohol rehab. Membership in USA Swimming, and particularly at the National Team level, includes a clear obligation to adhere to our Code of Conduct. Should an infraction occur, it is our responsibility to take appropriate action based on the individual case. Also part of the suspension, Phelps will be forced to withdraw from the 2015 FINA World Championships Team that will be held in Kazan, Russia, from August 2-9, and forfeit his monthly stipend from USA Swimming for six months. Frank Clark Jersey. Last Tuesday Phelps was arrested and charged with DUI, excessive speed and crossing double lane lines within the Fort McHenry Tunnel on I-95 in Baltimore. He was later released. A report from the Maryland Transportation Authority said Phelps was driving a 2014 white Land Rover at a speed of 84 mph in a 45-mph zone. An officer pulled the vehicle over beyond the tunnels toll plaza and Phelps failed to perform the standard field sobriety tests. He was cooperative throughout the process. This was Phelps second arrest on DUI-related charges, with the first coming in 2004 for which he received 18 months probation and a $250 fine. Phelps was also suspended for three months by USA Swimming in 2009 after a picture was posted in a British tabloid showing him with a marijuana pipe. The 29-year-old Phelps has won a record 18 Olympic gold medals and 22 overall. He retired following the London Games in 2012, but made his return to competitive swimming this past April. ' ' '

• GLENDALE, Ariz. Justin Williams . -- Mexico rallied from a two-goal halftime deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with the United States in an exhibition match Wednesday night. Highly touted 18-year-old Julian Green made his senior U.S. debut, coming on in the 59th minute as a substitute at midfielder for Graham Zusi. Green is the product of German club Bayern Munichs developmental system who recently committed his international soccer future to the United States national team. Born in Tampa, Fla., but raised in Germany, Green has played for both German and U.S. national teams from the U-16 to U-19 levels. He was called in last year by U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, but declined the invitation to team camp at that time. Green appeared to his a shoulder in the 80th minute after he fell down, but was checked out quickly on the sideline and returned to the field. Mexico turned a dreadful first half into a tight game following captain Rafael Marquezs 49th-minute goal. Mexico became more active on the attack and threatened to tie on almost every run in the second half. The tying goal came in the 67th minute. Alan Pulido collected the rebound of Paul Aguilars shot that hit the post and kicking the ball into an exposed net. Both teams had chances to take the lead late in the match. Second-half substitute Eddie Johnson was ruled offside and his goal nullified in the 85th minute. Mexicos Miguel Angel Ponce took a shot in the 86th minute that barely went over the goal. Early on, the U.S. looked as if it might run away with another satisfying win over its biggest rival. It took the U.S. less than 15 minutes to get on the scoreboard first. Midfielder Michael Bradley outran Mexico midfielder Jesus Zavala to a corner kick that went far post from Zusi, and Bradley finished with one touch to give the Americans the early lead. The U.S. set the pace of the match early, making runs down the field several times and making Mexicos defence work and drawing corner kicks. The U.S. took a two-goal lead in the 28th minute with some effective passing. Clint Dempsey sent the ball out wide to Tony Beltran, a defender making just his third appearance for the national team. Beltran crossed to Bradey, who found Chris Wondolowski to his left near the goal, and Wondolowski slotted the ball into the net. The goal elicited chants of "Dos a Cero" from outnumbered U.S. fans, in reference to the final score of several previous U.S. wins over Mexico in the long history of the rivalry. Mexicos first goal came off a corner kick from Marco Fabian to Marquez, who found space in the box for an on-target header. Four minutes later, Marquez got free for another header that Rimando had to tip over the top of the goal. The match served a pre-World Cup tuneup for both teams as they evaluate players to be on their respective World Cup rosters. The next U.S exhibition is May 27 against Azerbaijan at San Franciscos Candlestick Park. Mexico hosts Israel in Mexico City on May 28. Jack Buck . -- At the beginning of training camp, Andrew Bogut set a goal to play all 82 regular-season games and regain his place among the NBAs best centres. Michael Wacha . The Patriots have agreed to contract terms with three-time All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis, according to his business manager. "Now its Official. @Revis24 has agreed to terms with the New England Patriots!" John Geiger tweeted Thursday. The Patriots wasted little time in finding a replacement for another top cornerback. On Tuesday, Aqib Talib left for a six-year contract worth a reported $57 million with the Denver Broncos. The agreement with Revis was first reported by ESPN, which said it was for one year at $12 million. The Patriots have not made an announcement regarding Revis. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released the three-time All-Pro on Wednesday before he was due a $1.5 million bonus. Revis was cut after efforts to trade him and his $16 million salary failed. Now hes with New England, the AFC rival of the New York Jets, the team Revis spent his first six seasons with before being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before last years draft. As a Jet, Revis faced the Patriots 12 times in the regular season and post-season, more than any other opponent. He had two interceptions, nine passes defenced, one fumble recovery and 50 tackles in those games. Revis, known for his lock-down coverage of receivers, trademarked the phrase "Revis Island," a nickname he was given because of his ability in man-to-man coverage. Hes an upgrade over Talib, and more durable, and comes to a defence that allowed the 15th most yards passing in the NFL last season and the seventh most overall. The Patriots also could use another pass-rushing defensive end to complement Chandler Jones, who led them with 11 1-2 sacks last season. They won the AFC East with a 12-4 record but lost the AFC championship game in Denver 26-16 as Peyton Manning threw for 400 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. The Patriots usually dont sign big-name veteran free agents. Last year, they let wide receiver Wes Welker leave for Denver and replaced him with oft-injured free agent Danny Amendola, who caught 54 passes in a disappointing season. Now the Patriots can focus on finding receivers to help Tom Brady, who will be 37 when he begins his 15th NFL season. Julian Edelman, who emerged last season with a career-high 105 catches, is a free agent but could remain with New England. Paul Goldschmidt. Other free agent wide receivers who might interest the Patriots are Jason Avant, who has 297 catches in eight seasons with Philadelphia, Brandon LaFell, who has 167 catches in four seasons with Carolina, and Emmanuel Sanders, who has 161 catches in four seasons with Pittsburgh. They combined for 154 catches for 13 touchdowns last season. Revis spent less than a year with the Bucs, who obtained him from the Jets for a first-round choice last year and a fourth-rounder this year. But with Lovie Smith taking over as coach after Greg Schiano was fired and Jason Licht becoming general manager, both in January, the Bucs are rebuilding a team that went 4-12. If Revis had remained on Tampa Bays roster at 4 p.m. Wednesday, he would have been due the bonus, and the 2014 pick the Bucs sent to the Jets would have become a third-rounder. Just 28 years old but a five-time Pro Bowl selection, Revis, a first-round draft pick in 2007, likely will team with Alfonzo Dennard, drafted in 2012, as the starting cornerbacks. Dennard could see a lot of passes thrown his way since teams are reluctant to throw toward Revis. Dennard, 24, is currently serving a 60-day jail term in Lincoln, Neb., for a 2012 assault on a police officer. He began the term last Saturday and must serve at least 35 days, after credit for good behaviour and the three days he already spent in jail. Defensive captain Devin McCourty is one starting safety, but the other spot is open after the Patriots released Steve Gregory after last season. Revis started all 16 games last season for Tampa Bay after recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and receiving a $96 million, six-year contract. He played in just two games for the Jets in 2012 after starting 77 of their 80 regular-season games in his first five NFL seasons. He made the Pro Bowl last season when he had two interceptions, a sack and two forced fumbles. Releasing Revis "was a tough decision. Hes a very good player," Licht, a former personnel executive with the Patriots, said at a news conference Wednesday. "Darrelle showed a lot of heart last year as he worked extremely hard to get himself back on the field following his knee injury sustained the previous season." ' ' '
