    • Clemson, SC (SportsNetwork. Jack Mayfield Jersey .com) - Rod Hall scored 19 points to lead Clemsons come-from-behind 68-65 overtime win over No. 18 Arkansas on Sunday. The Razorbacks could not hold on to a lead late in regulation as Clemson scored the last six points to force OT. Hall scored 16 after halftime, Jaron Blossomgame added 17 and pulled down eight rebounds, and Donte Grantham netted 14 points for the Tigers (5-3), who bounced back from a loss to Rutgers in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge last Monday. Michael Qualls paced the Hogs with 21 points, and Bobby Portis chipped in 18. Arkansas (6-2) has lost two in a row after suffering a 95-77 setback to Iowa State on Thursday. With 1:17 left, a Portis layup gave the Razorbacks a 57-51 lead. Hall responded with a bucket and Clemsons defense took over for the remainder of regulation. It forced three turnovers and did not yield a shot in the final minute as Hall and Blossomgame each hit layups to tie the game and send it to overtime. The Tigers also scored the first five points in overtime on a 3-pointer from Hall and layup from Landry Nnoko. Arkansas cut its deficit to one possession twice, but Hall went 4-for-4 on foul shots to hel maintain Clemsons lead. Down six with 1:01 left in overtime, Qualls hit a triple to get Arkansas within three, and a steal by Alandise Harris seconds later got the Razorbacks the ball back. Harris missed the layup, and neither team would score again. A pair of missed free throws by Blossomgame with four seconds left gave Arkansas one last chance, but it could not get a shot off as the buzzer sounded. Trailing by nine late in the first half, Qualls scored five straight points to close the half for Arkansas. Clemson held a 29-25 lead at the break thanks to 12 points from Grantham. After Blossomgames layup 2:35 into the second half extended the Clemson advantage back to five points, the Hogs went on an 8-0 run to earn their biggest lead of the game to that point. Qualls scored the final five points of that run after Harris started it with a triple. That Blossomgame bucket was Clemsons last shot made from the field until there were only 10 minutes remaining. Halls layup ended the drought, but Qualls 3-pointer on the ensuing possession bumped the Arkansas edge back to seven points. From there, the Tigers went on a 16-9 run to force overtime. Hall fueled the run with seven points in the final 10 minutes of regulation. Game Notes Clemson improved to 1-2 all-time against Arkansas ... Harris six points put him over the 1,000-point milestone in his college career ... Blossomgames three-game double-double streak came to an end ... Arkansas hosts Dayton on Saturday, and Clemson takes on Auburn at home on Sunday. Don Larsen Jersey . Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca! Kerry, Im disgusted by the consistently inconsistent officiating in the league these days. A penalty in the first game of the preseason should be a penalty in Game 7 of the Cup final. It should not have anything to do with which teams or players are involved, what the score is, or anything else. In last nights game between the Canucks and the Capitals, with 6:52 left in the second period, Washington defenceman Karl Alzner clearly directed his dropped glove at puck carrier Daniel Sedin in the Capitals zone. This is obvious interference and a clear violation of Rule 53.6. The on ice officials were right there and their view was unobstructed. As per the rulebook (http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26345), the Canucks should have been awarded a penalty shot, but there was no call. Can you explain to us long-suffering fans whats going on here? Is this a simple officiating error? Is it so-called "game management?" Is there some other rule or policy involved that we dont know about? CMon Ref! Gilan IsraelJerusalem, Israel ---  Hi Kerry, In the Washington vs. Vancouver game Oct 28 at 6:55 of the second period, while the Canucks are on a power play, a Caps player sweeps a discarded glove right at Daniel Sedin who is handling the puck at the end boards. Daniel Sedin didnt let it affect him but how is that not an automatic penalty under rule 53.2? Thanks, GregVictoria BC  --- In Monday nights Capitals and Canucks game, Capitals defenceman Karl Alzner lost his glove on the play and couldnt retrieve it since the Canucks had possession and he didnt want to leave his man open. About 20 or so seconds later, Alzner skates near his glove and shoots it towards Daniel Sedin who had the puck. I know if a player shoots a stick at the opposing team its an automatic penalty shot, so I was wondering if the same rule applies with gloves and if it does why was there no call? Matt Parsons --- Hey Kerry, Thanks for the blog, I thoroughly enjoy your unique perspective on things. Congratulations on your long and great officiating career. My question pertains to the Capitals vs. Canucks game on Monday evening. There was a momentduring the game when Karl Alzner lost his glove and proceeded to shoot it at a Canucks forward who was controlling the puck behind the Washington net. Is there a rule regarding shooting pieces of equipment at an opposing player? Thank you,Trevor Tabsldo --- Kerry - clarification about shooting a stick or a glove at a player with the puck. This happened during a Canucks power play and the ref had a clear view at it, everyone in the building did. Thanks,Tanner Noble  Tanner, Trevor, Matt, Greg, Gilan, all Canuck fans including my friend John Garrett: Let me assure you there is no conspiracy theory at work that prevented the correct call from being made when Karl Alzner deliberately shot his glove at Daniel Sedin who was in possession of the puck behind the Washington net. As always, I wish to provide you with accurate and knowledgeable insight as to what a Refs options are on this specific play (video link) relative to the playing rules in addition to the expected judgment/standard of enforcement. Ill also answer your overriding question; how in the "H" did the Ref miss this one? I extend a warm "Shalom" to our friend Gilan Israel from Jerusalem. Please click on the NHL Rule link found in Gilans very thoughtful question above if you failed to do so and read rule 53.2 and 56.7.What jumps out for most fans will be the broad but seemingly clear language of 53.6 which calls for a penalty shot to be assessed when a defender throws or shoots any object or piece of equipment at the puck or puck carrier in his defending zone. For your insight into the interpretation and expected standard of enforcement the Refs have been directed to foollow, I refer you back to 53. Myles Straw Jersey. 2; "When a player shoots or throws a stick or any other object at the puck or the puck carrier in the defending zone but does not interfere in any manner with the puck or puck carrier, a minor penalty shall be assessed." It is imperative that the object shot or thrown directly alters the movement of the puck or directly affects the decision and motion of the puck carrier. Neither of these situations was present. Daniel Sedin didnt flinch when the glove landed between his skates against the end boards. Instead, Daniel proceeded to make his intended pass away from traffic to Dan Hamhuis who had pinched down low at the corner goal line from his point position. Given the resulting circumstance as described herein a minor penalty for interference (53.2) should have been assessed. Before I explain how it was missed by the Referee I need to advise you how this interpretation and addition to rule 53.2 came about. It resulted from a play at the Joe Louis Arena involving Brendan Shanahan and me as the referee. There was seconds remaining in the game with a face-off in the Detroit end zone to the right of the Wings net. I forget who the visiting team was but the Wings were down by a goal and Brendan Shanahan was setup on the wing nearest to the center of the ice.  The attacking center won the face-off cleanly back to his right defenceman positioned in the center of the blue line. Shanahan took two strides toward the shooter then realized he wasnt able to get out quick enough to block the shooting lane so he threw his hockey glove at the puck. As the glove slide at the puck the shooter implemented a minor toe drag allowing the projectile to safely slide into the neutral zone before he teed up a shot on goal. I stood in shock at the events I had just witnessed. There was no rule to assess a minor penalty under 53.2 in the book. For a penalty shot to be called there had to be some form of direct interference take place. Since the D-man got his shot away I allowed the play to continue and the game quickly ended. Then Referee-in-Chief Andy Van Hellemond and I spoke on the phone immediately after the game about the need to craft a rule to specifically allow for a minor penalty to be assessed for interference in the event that a penalty shot was not warranted. The additional language to rule 53.2 was implemented the following season. So how did the Referee miss Karl Alzner shoot his glove at Daniel Sedin? Check out the viz (you might even have to slow it down) and follow not only the action but especially the head of referee Ian Walsh in the corner to view the play exactly as he did. What you will see is that when Hendrik Sedin had the puck on the sidewall at the hash marks the Refs vision was focused to the front of the net where he observed Caps defenceman John Carlson shove Ryan Kesler to the ice from behind but not worthy of a penalty. The puck was then passed by Henrik to his brother Daniel who had circled from the opposite side to behind the net. Karl Alzner was high on the play and the closest Capital to Henrik prior to him making the pass. Referee Walsh then altered his posture and sightline to follow the path of the puck onto Daniel Sedins stick behind the goal line against the end boards. With this sightline Walsh did not see the glove being shot by Alzner as he moved toward Daniel Sedin. The glove arrived on the scene between Daniels skates and did not appear to interfere with the puck or the players movement. Since the Ref did not see how the glove arrived there he was unable to raise his arm and call the minor penalty for interference that was deserved as per rule 53.2. Instead of keying on Daniel Sedin he should have split his vision by taking a wide visual perspective of the play which included Karl Alzner as the closest defensive player to the puck carrier. It happens quickly and the moment is lost. This is exactly how this one played out. I wonder if it brought back any memories for Brendan Shanahan as it did for me!  ' ' '

    • When the word finally came out that Japanese star pitcher Masahiro Tanaka was being posted, I was convinced he would sign with the Texas Rangers or New York Yankees, with the LA Dodgers and Boston Red Sox being outside possibilities. Roger Craig Super Bowl Jersey . Now if I had to make a wager, Id say the Seattle Mariners or Arizona Diamondbacks. Over the weekend, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports suggested the Diamondbacks might be willing to trade their former closer J.J. Putz to the Yankees for Ichiro Suzuki. Why, I wondered, would the Dbacks want a 40-year-old future Hall of Famer in the twilight of a great career?  Then it hit me! What better way to convince Tanaka to sign with them than to offer him the chance to play with the greatest Japanese player of all time. But if its not just the money, Seattle is probably an even better choice for Tanaka. The Mariners have already shown a willingness to spend by luring free agent Robinson Cano away from the bright lights of New York and they already employ one of Tanakas best friends in baseball. Hisashi Iwakuma has quietly emerged as a star in Seattle the last two seasons. I say quietly because hell always be pitching in the shadow of "King Felix" Hernandez. In two years, though, hes put together a 23-11 record with a 2.84 ERA and 286 strikeouts.  He made the American League all-star team last season but couldnt pitch in the mid-summer classic since he had made a start for Seattle on the Sunday, just before the Tuesday night game. He also finished third in Cy Young voting in the American League behind the Tigers Max Scherzer and the Rangers Yu Darvish. Tanaka and Iwakuma were teammates with the Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan from 2007 through 2011 and are reportedly good friends. Though Iwakuma put together a 107-69 record with a 2.75 ERA in Japan, he went through his share of adversities. In 2006, pitching motion rules were put into effect that forced Iwakuma to alter his delivery. In past, Japanese hurlers had been allowed to momentarily stop in mid-delivery before throwing to the plate. This was designed to throw off a hitters timing but now would simply be ruled a balk. Iwakuma changed, but altering his delivery led to shoulder problems and then elbow surgery that would cost him the bulk of two seasons. Iwakuma bounced back, though, and won the ERA title in 2008 as well as the Eiji Sawamura Award; the Major League equivalent of the Cy Young. Even Iwakumas move to the Majors didnt go smoothly. Oakland won the bidding rights for him prior to the 2011 season. The sides couldnt come to terms on a contract, though, and Iwakuma wound up spending one more year in Japan before finally earning free agency at age 30 and signing with Seattle. Iwakuma will be 33 years old in April and would seem to be the perfect one to show Tanaka the ropes in the Majors. The only complication might be Iwakumas contract. He will be make $6.5 million with the Ms in 2014 and has a club option for $7 million in 2015.  Tanaka could get close to twice that amount per season.  That could be difficult for the Mariners to rationalize and explain to Iwakuma, whos already given them two very good seasons. Still, Ive got a feeling Seattle will find a way to get this done. The Tanaka negotiations must be completed by January 24 at 5:00 PM. Darvish took until the day before this deadline to sign with Texas. With spring training rapidly approaching, I can see this one getting done in the next week to ten days. Once Tanaka has a new home, it will only serve to intensify the bidding for free agents Ubaldo Jimenez, Ervin Santana, Matt Garza and maybe even Bronson Arroyo. The Class of 2014 inductees for the Baseball Hall of Fame will be announced on Wednesday at 2:00 PM. Im sticking with the same three selections I talked about months ago; Braves pitching legends Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine and White Sox two-time MVP, Frank Thomas. I counted at least 10 other worthy Hall of Famers on this ballot, but thanks to PEDs and the sheer back-log of quality candidates, Im convinced only the aforementioned three will get in. As for Jack Morris, whos on the ballot for the 15th and final time, I dont care what his career ERA was; any man who was the staff ace on three World Series winners (84 Tigers, 91 Twins, 92 Blue Jays) belongs in the Hall of Fame - end of story. Check out Morriss numbers in 1992 with the Blue Jays at age 37. 240.2 innings pitched, 21-6 record, 4.04 ERA, six complete games and one shutout. Remember, the Blue Jays had Tom Henke and Duane Ward as the 1-2 punch in the pen. The onus wasnt on Morris to pitch that many innings or that many complete games. He just did, he was that good. Jeff Wilson Super Bowl Jersey .ca presents its latest weekly power rankings for the 2013-14 Barclays Premier League season. Y.A. Tittle Super Bowl Jersey . • SAN JOSE, Calif. Fake Red Wings Jerseys . - Even on a night when the play was hampered by choppy ice, the puck still seems to find Joe Pavelski and he keeps finding the net. Pavelski scored twice to move into a tie for the second most goals in the NHL this season and help the San Jose Sharks beat the Calgary Flames 3-2 Monday night. "It feels how you should play the game all the time, to be honest," Pavelski said. "Its the way you picture it. Ive just visualized this a few times, so it shouldnt be anything new." Pavelski scored on a deflection in the first period and on the power play in the second to give him five goals in his past two games and 18 in the past 20 to tie Anaheims Corey Perry with 27 on the season. Washingtons Alex Ovechkin leads the league with 35. "Its fun to watch," teammate Tommy Wingels said. "They go in a whole different variety of ways as you saw tonight. When youre hot, youre hot. Hell certainly take it and as a team well take it as well." Wingels also scored and Antti Niemi made 21 saves for the Sharks, who returned home from a perfect three-game road trip with a win over struggling Calgary to open a pre-Olympic stretch of eight games out of 10 at home. Jiri Hudler and Kevin Westgarth scored for the Flames, who have lost four straight games and 11 of 13. Karri Ramo made 24 saves. "Were disappointed in the loss, but you cant fault the effort," forward Matt Stajan said. "We had our chances. If we continue to work like that well give ourselves a chance no doubt about it." Pavelski followed up his first career hat trick on Saturday in Tampa Bay with his third multi-goal game in his past six as he thrives on a line with Joe Thornton and Brent Burns. Pavelski is four goals shy of matching his career high of 31 set two seasons ago. He broke a tie late in the second period after Stajan was sent off for interfering with Eriah Hayes on the only penalty of the game. After a broken play at the blue line, Jason Demers kept the puck in the offensive zone and passed to Thornton, who was all alone on the opposite side of the ice. Thornton fired a cross-ice pass to Pavelski, who was alone near the front of the net and deflected the pass past Ramo to give the Sharks a 3-2 lead. "The ice was just so bouncy tonight I just tried to get it in the general direction," Thornton said. "He just made a great play, just hand-eye co-ordination. Hes just playing great right now. The puck seems to hit him right now and go in." Both teams scored twice during the first period with help from shaky goaltending from Niemi and Ramo. The four goals came on 18 shots and included three in a span of 1:12 midway through the period. The Flames started the scoring when Hudler beat Brad Stuart in the corner and then beat Niemi with a backhand from in front of the net for his 13th goal. The Sharks responded with two goals in a 21-second span with Pavelski tipping Justin Brauns point shot for the first and Wingels beating Ramo with a bad angle shot from near the boards to snap a 15-game goalless stretch. Less than a minute later, Niemi allowed a big rebound in the slot on a shot by Brian McGrattan and Westgarth got to the rebound ahead of Matt Irwin for his first goal in 23 games this season. Westgarth was happy to contribute two days after he was part of the game-opening line brawl against Vancouver that led to coach Bob Hartley getting fined $25,000 earlier in the day. "I dont know what is being said about me and I dont care," Westgarth said. "I know the guys in this room respect me and thats all that matters. I figured something would be happening. You dont want to have a line brawl like that very often." This game had just one minor penalty compared to the 204 combined minutes of penalties between the Canucks and Flames on Saturday. NOTES: With the assist on Pavelskis second goal, Thornton moved past Bobby Hull for 48th on the career scoring list with 1,171 points. ... Flames F Paul Byron left the game in the second period with a lower-body injury. ... Calgary F David Jones (eye) returned to the lineup after missing eight games and D Kris Russell (knee) was back after missing the past 13 games. Red Wings Jerseys 2021 . In the penalty box in the final minutes, Lucic made an obscene gesture toward Canadiens fans that earned him a fine from the NHL.On Thursday night the Bruins return to Bell Centre, the place that doesnt exactly bring out their best. Boston is 3-5 in its past eight games there, including last years playoff series loss to the Canadiens.I think you could say sometimes we get caught up in all that stuff that goes on around the game, defenceman Dennis Seidenberg said. We let them get under our skin and we dont play our game. I think if we stick to our game plan and play for 60 minutes, we should be fine. But in the past we havent really been able to do that, there have been breakdowns on the ice and mental setbacks and thats been costing us.Lucic, who apologized to his own organization, the Habs and their fans after getting fined US$5,000, said he and his teammates did a better job of controlling their emotions for much of that Oct. 16 game. He blamed a bad five-minute stretch of the second period for the 6-4 loss.It was a big reason why we didnt get that win, Lucic said. I think we have to just not worry about the things that dont matter, just focus on just playing our game and doing what it takes to win. If we do that, thatll give us the best chance to win in that building.Coach Claude Julien was reluctant Wednesday morning at Air Canada Centre to even address the potential emotion of Thursday nights game. Seidenberg just doesnt want to look back at what has happened in La Belle Province of late.We all know the history, we dont need to talk about it too much, the veteran said. We try to look forward. Lets just stick to our game plan.Lucic, no stranger to the role of the villain in opposing arenas, expects some kind of reaction from the fans. Hes not trying to focus on it or take too much pressure on his shoulders.Enough of that already exists for the Bruins.Obviously its been a tough building for us to play in, Lucic said. Its not about me against Montreal or anything like that, its about playing the right way and trying to keep moving our way up the standings.Losing to the Leafs didnt help that effort. The only silver lining for Boston was a chance to play again quickly.Thats what you want when you play a bad hockey game, centre Chris Kelly said. You want to get right back at it, so its good that we play tomorrow night. We get an opportunity to go out and redeem ourselves.___Follow @SWhyno on Twitter ' ' '

    • MALMO, Sweden - Ending a four-year run without a gold medal wont be easy for Canada at the world junior hockey championship. Dre Greenlaw Super Bowl Jersey . The quest begins with what is supposed to be an easy one, although Germany has traditionally been a stubborn opponent to Canadian teams at international tournaments. "Youve got to expect theyll be structured and hard working," coach Brent Sutter said Wednesday after a one-hour skate at the cosy Isstadion, where they face the Germans on Thursday. "Theyll be ready to play. "That game is the biggest game to date we have. It doesnt matter our opponent, its how we have to play. Lets make sure were responsible." You can watch all the action live on TSN beginning at 7am et/4am pt. Pre-tournament exhibition games against Finland, Sweden and Switzerland showed that while the Canadian squad — led by Halifax Mooseheads star Jonathan Drouin — will be among the better teams in the 10-team event, it doesnt have the speed and offensive flash of some of the 15 Canadian teams that won gold in the past. The host team Sweden, with at least 10 players returning from a squad that won silver last year in Ufa, Russia, looks like the team to beat, especially after the 3-0 beating they put on Canada in an exhibition game last week. The Swedes are in the opposite first-round group and will play at the newer, much larger Malmo Arena. Canada has only three players back from the 2013 tournament. They include Drouin, Jake Paterson (who didnt dress for any games in Ufa as the third goalie), and defenceman Griffin Reinhart, who is suspended for the first three games this year from a slashing incident in last years semifinals. The loss in Ufa ended Canadas 14-year run of top-three finishes at the tournament officially called the IIHF world under-20 championship. This years squad is younger than most, and should be a showcase for three players not even eligible to be drafted by the NHL yet. First among them is Connor McDavid, the dazzling 16-year-old playmaker and scoring star of the Erie Otters who will not be eligible for the draft until 2015. There is also forward Sam Reinhart of the Kootenay Ice, the younger brother of Griffin Reinhart, along with big defenceman Aaron Ekblad of the Barrie Colts. They may go one-two in the 2014 draft. Sutter has McDavid and Reinhart on the wings with centre Bo Horvat, an imposing Vancouver Canucks prospect from the London Knights. They were the only line to stay together through the teams three pre-tournament games. Reinhart turned 18 in November and is not a true "underage" junior, and Sutter uses him as he would a seasoned veteran. In exhibition play, he played the power play and on the penalty kill. In one instance when Canada was short-handed two men, he was the lone forward on the ice. "Hes an all-purpose player," said Sutter. "He just knows how to play the game. "Hes an intelligent player and his paying attention to details in all sorts of situations is very high. As a coach, youre very comfortable playing him in whatever situation that occurs." Reinhart is used to the ice time with Kootenay and was a captain on Canadian under-18 teams, so he likes the responsibility Sutter has given him. "It gives you confidence for opening night," he said. "We took some games to find our mentality and what well bring to the first one. "We feel confident in our game right now. The focus has turned onto the first game against Germany and were looking forward to it." The exhibition games were a test for Drouin, the third overall pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning last June. Sutter blasted him for a weak showing against Sweden, even though it was Drouins first game since suffering a concussion in a league game with Halifax on Dec. 8. He was moved from left wing to centre for the final exhibition against the Swiss and played better. "Brent said some stuff," said Drouin, who will likely centre big winger Anthony Mantha and the defensively solid Taylor Leier of the Portland Winterhawks. "I know I played bad and didnt help the team. "I had to step up my game against the Swiss and I think I did. I feel better. The first game was a little rough. Its been three weeks (since he played) and its different from major junior. Its way more fast, but I think the second game was better." Another question to be settled was in goal, and Sutter believes hes found his man in Paterson of the Saginaw Spirit, who will start against Germany. The Mooseheads Zach Fucale will start the tournament as the backup, but Sutter expects both will see action in the tournament. Other lines are likely to have Nic Petan of Portland between Curtis Lazar of the Edmonton Oil Kings and Kerby Rychel of the Gueph Storm; and captain Scott Laughton of the Oshawa Generals with Frederik Gauthier of the Rimouski Oceanic and Josh Anderson of the Knights. Charles Hudon of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens may slot in the Drouin line. The defence will likely be rearranged when Griffin Reinhart returns Dec. 31 against the Americans. Sutter has been trying various combinations for a group that includes Ekblad, Matt Dumba of the Minnesota Wild, Chris Bigras of the Owen Sound Attack, McDavids Erie teammate Adam Pelech, Josh Morrissey of the Prince Albert Raiders and Derrick Pouliot of Portland. Without a high-powered attack, there has been much talk of playing "Boston Bruins hockey," which despite popular perception does not mean hammering everyone who moves, but rather working the puck up the ice in tight, five-man units and playing a controlled two-way game. "It is the makeup of our team," said Sutter, who won gold with a similar group in 2006. "We have to support each other. "We cant be a spread-out team thats playing one zone and two zones ahead. We have to be coming out of zones together and using each other. When one guy has the puck, the other four have to be options and be available for plays. And we have to be smart when were hitting the red line. We cant have turnovers." The game against Germany is a chance to see flashy forward Leon Draisaitl, who is Morrisseys teammate in Prince Albert. Draisaitl is a projected top-10 pick in 2014. They played against one another at the under-18 championship, and Morrissey said they have been joking about meeting again at the world juniors. • MONTREAL - Aging junior-middleweights Delvin Rodriguez and Joachim Alcine will get to fight again another day. Walt Merrill Jersey Retro . The pair battled to a draw over 10 clench-filled rounds on Friday night at Montreals Olympic Stadium. Judge Jack Woodburn saw things for the hometown fighter Alcine with a 96-94 scorecard while Benoit Roussel scored the action for the visiting Rodriguez, 97-93. Judge Pasquale Procopio scored things even at 95-95. "We upset the apple cart just a little bit," said trainer Buddy McGirt, who reunited with Alcine for the first time since 2009 when he guided the Haitian born fighter to a pair of victories. "Im happy with the draw, I dont think they could have called it any other way. It was close. All we had to do with this fight was keep it basic, use the jab" Rodriguez, who was coming off a three destruction at the hands of former champion Miguel Cotto, maintained he won the fight but thought that his own performance could have been better. "Coming back I was tight in there, really tight. I couldnt get my combinations going in there like I usually do. But I still believe I won the fight cleanly. He never caught me with a clean punch and was never able to hurt me." The bout often resembled exactly what was, two fighters on the back-nine of their careers, often sloppy, filled with lots of holding and ordered breaks from referee Michael Griffin. Alcine (35-7-2) was at his best when working his jab but only occasionally was he able to follow it up with anything significant. The former world champion was a long way from his glory days of 2007 where he held the WBA championship belt at 154 pounds. The Montreal fighter who now calls California home once again kept his best for the crowd of approximately 1,500 who were clearly on his side. It is the second time Alcine has been brought in as an opponent, and the second time he has surprised. In 2011 he was brought in as fodder for middleweight hopeful David Lemieux who was coming off his first career loss. Alcine shocked the Lemieux and the world with a majority decision in their 12 round bout. Instead of reviving his career, Alcine proceeded to lose his next five fights. At 38, Alcine was supposed to have been the perfect tonic for Rodriguez (28-7-4) who fallen against Cotto and in his shot at the 154-pound crown in 2012 versus Austin Trout. "We were brought in to lose," said McGirt, glad of the effort his fighter put in. "It was a frustrating fight, anytime I got close to the guy, he kept on grabbing me," said Rodriguez. "Im sure when I get back home and watch the fight, Ill see I clearly won it." Alcine predictably also thought he was on the winning side. "This was not the right decision for this fight, The guy is young," said the former champ of his 34 year-old opponent. All the eyes are on him and for them, Im old. I think for next time, there wont be any doubt, I will win by knockout. No doubt." Cheap Jerseys 2020 . Bradley scored 24 points as the Boston Celtics beat the Orlando Magic for the second time in four days, 120-105 on Monday night. When asked if he was surprised the Magic kept leaving him open for mid-range jumpers, Bradley had a slight grin before saying, "A little. But once it started going, I was praying it would keep falling, and it did." Bradley hit 10 of 15 shots, pairing with Jordan Crawford to provide a solid backcourt duo that carried the Celtics to their fourth straight win after they opened the season with four losses under first-year coach Brad Stevens. Crawford, who took over the point when Stevens moved Bradley to the shooting guard spot, had 16 points and 10 assists with no turnovers in 32 1/2 minutes. "Yeah, theyre playing really well together," Stevens said. Kelly Olynyk and Jeff Green each also had 16 points for Boston. The Celtics shot 60 per cent (51 for 85) against an Orlando team that entered the night with the NBAs second-best field goal percentage defence. "One of those days," Stevens said. "You know youre going to get jump shots because thats what they force you into. Normally, those are inefficient shots." Arron Afflalo had 18 points and seven assists, Victor Oladipo scored 17 points and Nikola Vucevic had 15 points and 10 boards for Orlando, which dropped its 16th straight road game. "We did a poor job tonight," Magic forward Maurice Harkless said. "They just made shots tonight, so you have to give them credit. We just didnt find a way to stop them." It was Bostons 10th straight win in the series, dating back to the Magics victory at home on Christmas in 2010. The Celtics won 91-89 at Orlando on Friday night. The Magic never seemed to be able to slow down Bostons offence. "It was pretty much all game long," Afflalo said. "I really dontt feel like we were really in the game at any point just simply because we couldnt get stops. Randy Coffield Jersey Retro. . You know to win on the road you have to get stops." The Celtics led by nine at the half and took complete control early in the third behind Bradleys scoring. "Weve grown a lot offensively," Bradley said. "At the beginning of the year, it was stagnant. Now were moving the ball a lot." Bradley nailed his first four shots in the quarter to go along with two free throws, pushing Bostons lead to 75-64 midway into the third. The Celtics extended it to 87-72 on Courtney Lees 3-pointer from the left corner with 53 seconds left in the quarter and led by 13 heading to the fourth. They didnt let the Magic back into it in the final quarter, opening a 98-80 lead on Greens jumper from the left corner with 8 1/2 minutes to play. Lees putback gave Boston its first 20-point lead of the night, 104-84, with 6:35 left. The Magic got no closer than 12 points the rest of the way. Boston shot 62.5 per cent in the first half and held a 59-50 halftime edge. Behind a strong shooting start in the opening quarter, the Celtics led 31-25 at the end of one. Boston connected on 13 of 19 attempts in the quarter. After the Magic pulled to 39-37 midway into the second, the Celtics went on a 16-6 run over the ensuing 5 minutes en route to their halftime advantage. NOTES: Stevens didnt want to talk about how well his teams defence has been just yet before the game. "Im the wrong person to talk to about that," he said before saying, "it could be a lot better." We had some chances, just didnt shoot the puck, Canucks coach Willie Desjardins said. The game was tied 1-1 before the Predators scored twice in the third. Forsberg began the scoring in the third after James Neal drove the right wing and lost control of the puck, but Forsberg was in front to put it home at the 6:42 mark. Wilson rose a shot over Lacks shoulder from below the left circle with 1:33 left to add insurance. Detroit announced Tuesday that Bower had been hired as the teams new general manager, part of an off-season overhaul in which Stan Van Gundy was hired last month as the coach and team president. Bower was the coach at Marist College last season, but he resigned that position Monday. "Im excited to join the Pistons organization and play a role in helping this franchise build on its great basketball tradition," Bower said in a statement. "I look forward to working with Stan, his staff and everyone in the Pistons organization to put together a team that the community can support and be proud of. Im also excited about ownerships commitment to winning and their demonstrated commitment to the community." The Pistons called a news conference for Wednesday to introduce Bower. Bower has been a general manager and coach in the NBA, holding both those positions with the New Orleans Hornets in 2009-10. "Jeff brings great basketball knowledge and NBA experience to our organization and hes enjoyed success in buildingg teams," Van Gundy said. Kadar Hollman Jersey. "Hes a great evaluator of talent and Jeff will bring solid leadership to our front office." Bower was the general manager of the Hornets from 2001-03 and again from 2005-10. Marist went 12-19 this past season under Bower, which was a two-game improvement from 2012-13. "I have a lot of respect for Jeff and the job he did in his time at Marist," athletic director Tim Murray said. "He laid the foundation for the program moving forward and I feel that this is a great opportunity for our next head coach. I wish Jeff the best of luck as he leaves Marist for a very specific and compelling NBA opportunity." The Pistons went 29-53 last season, missing the playoffs for a fifth straight year. That was the end of Joe Dumars tenure as team president. Van Gundys coaching is well respected -- he went 371-208 in seven-plus seasons with Miami and Orlando -- but now hell have the added responsibility of handling personnel matters. Its rare for one person to have that much control in the NBA, so Bower may play an important role in shaping the franchises future. ' ' '

    • DENVER -- Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez was activated from the disabled list on Friday after he missed 35 games because of left index finger inflammation. Marcus Allen Jersey . To make roster room for Gonzalez, who was in the starting lineup Friday night against Minnesota, the Rockies optioned right-handed pitcher Jair Jurrjens to their Triple-A affiliate in Colorado Springs. Gonzalez, sidelined since June 3, underwent finger surgery a week later after doctors discovered a benign tumour. "He has some peace of mind with that finger," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "The first part of the season, that finger was blowing up. For no rhyme or reason. All of a sudden, in the middle of the game, he would make solid contact or hit the ball off the end of the bat, that finger would swell up. It was obviously an issue going on." Before rejoining the Rockies, Gonzalez made four rehab appearances with Colorado Springs this week. "Im feeling good," Gonzalez said before the game. "Im happy being back in the lineup. I took my time. Its a slow process. I was careful after the surgery. It paid off." The time off also helped alleviate lingering soreness from left knee tendinitis that had bothered him for much of the season. Gonzalez was batting .255 in 52 games. He entered this season with a career average of .300. "The time off has certainly helped his knee," Weiss said. "It is something that has hindered him from time to time. The time off is going to help that." Gonzalez, who usually plays left field, was slated to start in right field and bat third. "Well see what he can do," Weiss said. Lloyd Burrus Jersey . Kohlschreiber had lost all of his three previous matches against Istomin but the German broke serve for a decisive 3-2 lead in the third set and held on to reach his first final of the year.It is amazing what the NFL Draft has become and what it has evolved into over time. For those who remember many years ago, the National Football League draft was more of a gathering of decision-makers with very few evaluating the very many and in many ways, hoping the decisions they make are correct. Now it is an investment that demands a performance dividend and if the dividend does not max out consistently on the football field, people lose jobs and revenue is lost. And these are well paying jobs and high revenue amounts. It is true that finding football players is 50 per cent science and 50 per cent art bordering on pure luck. Maybe that is why it is so entertaining because there really is no common denominator for draft success. Even the best in the business have missed big time on players and groups of players among the various years of evaluating. Some people in football are better than others but if you follow it close enough, not by much. No one really dominates in finding talent year after year.   For Seattle in recent years, Richard Sherman as a fifth round pick and Russell Wilson as a third round pick made the team special. But last year was completely different with fifth round pick and Canadian Luke Willson as well as Michael Bowie in the seventh round really being major contributors. It was a great move to trade #1 for Percy Harvin but you cant say last years draft was as good as previous drafts.             So what is everyone looking for? With all the scouts in all blocks of the country, the coaches who should always have an influence and the managers who have extreme job security if they draft well and no security if they dont, that is a great question. I think there are tangibles and intangibles. The tangible is how the player plays based on film analysis and competition. Truth is, to make good football decisions, all you need is enough good video and a good one-on-one interview. Everything else from the combine and individual workouts is icing on the cake. But sometimes that icing is so good it clouds decisions that could have been made without the "extra look", without pads and looking at movement more than actual on-field football ability. Many people in football become seduced by the visual in-person vs. the true reality of what happens on the field. The tangible "stuff" is easy to assess. It is the intangibles when the art takes over the science and sometimes is merely common sense. I think there are two words that make thee difference in all drafting in football: maturity and passion. Ben Niemann Jersey. Maturity is really hard to recognize. Some players in the interview process pass with extreme confidence but when they make money and have to be completely self-motivated are anything but. In other situations, a player may have a criminal record or been involved in "stupid college stuff", then when they achieve wealth and independence, they change for the good. They grow up when you had to wonder if they would ever grow up. Some people are born with maturity on and off the field. Others create it at a certain moment for certain reasons and others yet never find it and it takes a possible great career and changes it to an experience. Having maturity is critical in every way and is difficult to assess correctly. The second intangible is passion. How much does the particular player actually like, even love, football? Now you would think all players love, or at least like, football. Not so. There is so much money in the sport now that playing for money is an easy motivation. By the time you reach your second contract, you could be set for life. Lets say you are 26 years-old, house and car paid off, money in the bank, happily married, success on the field with maybe even a Super Bowl or two. Why play any more football when you know what it does to your body and in some cases your mind? Only after the money is made does the football desire increase or diminish. Until that happens, you just dont know. Every football player will tell every team they LOVE football. But do they love football or do they love what football will get you and what you can purchase? Again just like maturity, you really dont know until time moves on. Come May 8-10, many of the very best will have their life changed in one phone call. For some, it will be a life changing moment that they will capitalize on in a remarkable way. For others, the sport at the pro level will be too much, whether it is due to competition or intensity. Which player will experience which life is an unknown. It may be due to height, weight, speed and everything you can see feel and touch. Or it may be because of how much you want it and how well you can adjust and handle it; a certain mental ability and a certain emotional ability that you can tap into. Between the best athlete with really good video and the lesser athlete, whos maybe not as dominant on the field but has his act together and loves the game, Ill take the latter. Welcome to the NFL draft starting May 8th, a gamble of research and a gamble of hope. ' ' '

    • ATLANTA -- Lets face it, Robbie Lawler is not a brilliant fight promoter. Wholesale Custom Packers Shirts .The defending UFC welterweight champion does not produce many headlines, and he tends to say little about his opponents. Hes focused on himself, you know? Hes getting better in the gym every day. Hes not worried about the other guy. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz. The best way to promote a Lawler fight is to show a Lawler fight. Thats his selling point -- entertaining, action-packed fights; the kind that might even intimidate future opponents. You want to take Lawlers title? Better be prepared for the worst 25 minutes of your life.Tyron Woodley, who will take on Lawler for the 170-pound title on Saturday at UFC 201 at Philips Arena, says hes up to the challenge.Robbie will bleed and smile and always keep coming, but you have to be intimidated by him to break from that, Woodley said. Thats actually his main attribute. But hes not the boogeyman to me. Im sorry. You put him at the foot of my bed, Im gonna open my eyes, take one look at him, and fall my ass right back to sleep. Its worth noting Woodley (15-3) has a long history with Lawler, which might help him humanize the champ more than others.Much of the pre-fight attention has been dedicated to whether or not the two are real teammates. They both represent American Top Team out of South Florida, although Woodley stopped holding his full-time camp there more than a year ago.Their relationship actually goes back well before Lawler joined ATT in 2013. It even goes back before Woodleys professional debut in 2009.Robbie was a guest referee for my last two amateur fights, Woodley said. I actually trained occasionally at his gym in Granite City, Illinois, which was 15 minutes from my house in St. Louis. We never sparred because Robbie wasnt doing much sparring at the time, but we wrestled a few times.I have video right now on a hard drive, me as an amateur fighter sitting in his gym saying, One day, Im going to be a UFC champion. Who the hell would have thought Id be fighting against the person whose gym I was in to make that happen? Those are things that I think make this a little more special. The two shared a gym again when Lawler joined ATT, but Woodley ultimately left to open a satellite gym in St. Louis. A former collegiate wrestler at the University of Missouri, Woodley also trains out of Roufusport in Milwaukee, alongside his former college teammate Ben Askren.Since Woodley was the one who relocated, he will, technically, be staring across the cage at a team that once coached him. The 34-year-old says hes not concerned how that might affect the matchup. Are they that familiar with me? Woodley asked. I dont think they are. I think theyre extremely familiar with what they saw a year and a half ago. How much have they seen since? Ill be jumping off the cage in this fight for all they know, throwing spinning backfists and flying armbars. They have no clue what Im coming with.If Lawler does possess inside knowledge on Woodley, he certainly isnt hinting at it. As is the case before all his fights, Lawler says his entire focus is on himself. Hes hoping for a finish, rather than another five-round war, but if it comes to that, he knows where he stands. Its not something I worry about, whether my opponents have that heart in them or not, Lawler said. All I know is that I have it. If they end up having it too, thats when you see something special. But I dont know what the other guy is bringing to the table. Im doing what I can to get them out of there. Thats about it.Where many see a stoic, ruthless juggernaut, who (and this actually is a quote from Lawler) looks to claim an opponents soul in a fight, Woodley sees a beatable opponent who doesnt scare him one bit.He has been put away before, Woodley said. Jacare [Ronaldo] Souza? Nick Diaz? I remember those fights. I watched those fights. Tim Kennedys wrestling was too much for him. Lorenz Larkin was too fast. I possess all those skills, but better. Styles make fights, you know what I mean?I think hes showing a lot of caution before this fight because he knows my style -- he has to respect it. Authentic Custom Packers Jersey . WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Despite double-figure kills from senior opposite hitter Anni Thomasson and freshman outside hitter Leah Edmond, the Kentucky volleyball team opened the 2016 season with a rough, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-17) loss to the Washington State Cougars on Friday morning inside Holloway Gymnasium.First off, I need to give credit to Washington State, 12th-season head coach Craig Skinner said following the match. They did a great job with their first contact, both serving and receiving and did a better job executing their plan. Weve got some fine tuning to do before Wyoming and well look to be more aggressive moving forward. The Wildcats move to 0-1 with the loss, while Washington State opens its season at 1-0. Kentucky continues the tournament at 5:30 p.m., facing the Cowgirls of Wyoming, who dropped their season opener to Purdue, 3-0, immediately before the matchup between the Wildcats and Cougars.Ten members of the Kentucky squad played in the match, as Edmond led the Wildcats in kills in her collegiate debut, earning a match-high 12 kills on 29 attempts. Thomasson joined Edmond in double figures, charting 11 kills in the outing, good for second best in the match. The senior also came two digs short of a double-double with eight in three sets. All-Southeastern Conference junior middle blocker Kaz Brown posted seven kills, while classmate middle Emily Franklin contributed four kills and a pair of blocks. Sophomore setter Olivia Dailey guided the offense with 30 assists, a kill and an ace while adding three digs. Junior Darian Mack (three kills, one dig) and sophomore Anna Nyberg (one kill, four digs) also contributed on the offensive end.The defense was guided by reigning SEC Libero of the Year, Ashley Dusek, who paced the team with 11 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist McKenzie Watson added two digs during the contest.SET RECAPSSet 1 Edmond opened the 2016 season with two killls to give the Cats a 3-0 lead. Custom Rashan Gary Jersey. The Cougars responded with three of their own, tying the set before alternating sideouts evened the score again at 5-5. The sides continued to trade points, with Kentucky gaining a 9-8 edge off of kills from Mack and Brown before a 4-0 Washington State run prompted a UK timeout. The Cats pulled within one after a block from Edmond and Franklin and a Cougars service ace. Washington State rallied, however, opening up a 10-2 run to jump ahead, 22-13. UK posted a few more points before eventually dropping the first frame, 25-17.Set 2 Kentucky and Washington State jockeyed for the lead in the early going, with Franklin, Edmond, Brown and Mack all registering kills to pull UK within one, 6-5. WSU responded with four points in a row, prompting a Kentucky timeout. The Wildcats responded, opening up an impressive 11-5 run, including a run of three kills from Brown to tie the match at 16-16. Kentucky and Washington State traded the next six points before a 3-0 run by the Cougars forced Kentuckys hand and a timeout. Kills by Franklin and Edmond pulled UK within one at 23-22 before Washington State sealed the match, 25-23.Set 3 Both sides traded points early on, tying at 2-2 before Washington State took the lead. Washington State strung together three-straight points before Daileys lone kill stopped the run at 5-3. The sides traded the next six points before Washington State opened a 4-2 run to take a 13-8 lead. Kentucky retaliated with kills from Thomasson and Nyberg to pull within three before back-to-back strikes from Edmond brought Kentucky to as close as two points from tying at 15-13. The Cougars took seven of the next eight possible points. The run proved too much for Kentucky, as Washington State won the final set, 25-17. ' ' '

    • Fiji claimed their first ever Olympic medal in impressive fashion as they cruised to victory over Great Britain in the mens rugby sevens final. Zach Line Jersey .?Fiji, coached by former England Sevens supremo Ben Ryan, were in rampant form as they coasted home 43-7 to be crowned inaugural Olympic mens champions in the event.Britain barely got a look-in, such was seven-try Fijis dominance, but they will return home as runners-up after a competition that also included sevens powerhouses such as New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.Britain skipper Tom Mitchell kicked off the first rugby sevens final in Olympic history, but it was Fiji who were rapidly into their stride as their captain Osea Kolinisau pounced for an opening try after appearing on an unmarked overlap. There was no immediate prospect of things improving for Britain. Unable to get their hands on possession, a second try soon followed for the South Sea Islanders as Jerry Tuwai crossed.Britains normally watertight defence leaked holes everywhere, and Fiji almost added a third try in five minutes, but Leone Nakarawa was hauled down just short of the line.Britain badly needed a score before the break, yet they were pinned inside their own half and Fiji picked them off with another try, this time from Jesa Veremalua. All the Fiji players wanted a part to play, and it was pretty much game over when Nakarawa pounced for try number four a minute before half-time.It was very much damage-limitation for Britain, yet they were breached once more as Valerno Ravouvou sprinted clear, and with two conversions also being kicked, Fiji changed ends 29 points ahead.Josua Tuisova added another try shortly after half-time, and although Dan Norton claimed a consolation score for Britain, Fiji inevitably had the final word when Viliame Mata crossed the whitewash. The bronze medal match, meanwhile, was won by South Africa, who demolished Japan -- shock opening day conquerors of New Zealand -- 54-14. Rickey Jackson Jersey . Horton led the 2009 Florida Panthers in assists and was second on the team in total points during the 2006, 2007 and 2009 regular seasons. Fun facts: - The Red Wings Hakan Andersson was likely the only NHL scout to see Datsyuk play prior to the 1998 entry draft, this thanks to a snowstorm that forced a scout from another team to abandon his trip, allowing Detroit to pick Datsyuk 171st overall - Nathan Horton is married to Tammy Plante, great-niece of former NHL goaltending legend Jacques Plante. The word for players trying to make Canadas Olympic hockey team is simple -- youve got to be able to skate. After winning gold on an NHL-size rink at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada will be moving back onto the larger international ice surface for the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia. And as Team Canada executive director Steve Yzerman put it: "There will be more of a premium placed on skating." There will be plenty of that to chose from, as Yzerman and his staff announced on Monday a list of 47 players who have been invited to an Aug. 25-28 orientation camp in Calgary. Among them are 15 players who won gold in Vancouver, led by Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, Drew Doughty and goaltender Roberto Luongo. The final roster will have 25 players -- likely three goalies, eight defencemen and 14 forwards. "Ultimately, well pick the best players available to us, but playing on a bigger ice surface, I believe there is a priority on being able to skate," Yzerman said on a conference call. "That will weigh into our final decisions on putting this team together." He said being too slow afoot was one of the reasons Canada bowed out in the quarter-finals the last time it played on the big ice at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin, Italy. Without naming names, Yzerman allowed that there are about a dozen locks to make the team and that the tough part will be filling out the rest of the roster. Some will be young stars who have emerged since 2010, perhaps Steven Stamkos, Claude Giroux or John Tavares. But Mike Babcock, who returns as head coach, said all with have to be two-way players who check in their egos when they put on the Team Canada jersey. "They have to be able to skate," the Detroit Red Wings coach said. "We expect players to be 200-footers. "They have to play without the puck. And once again, it comes back to playing for Canada. Its not going to be about any of the individuals, its going to be about Canada and executing our plan. So they have to find their game within our game." Others players invited from the 2010 team were defencemen Dan Boyle, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Shea Weber; and forwards Patrice Bergeron, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Rick Nash, Mike Richards, Eric Staal and Joe Thornton. Not all are guaranteed to make the squad again, but Yzerman said big-game experience will work in a players favour. He said older skaters like Scott Niedermayer, who is now retired, and Chris Pronger, who hasnt played since November, 2011 due to concussion symptoms, were key performers in Vancouver. "We want to put the best team on the ice, but there is great value in that veteran leadership," he said. "Having said that, weve got to make room for some of these younger players to come in. "Some of these younger players are forcing their way into the lineup. Not only Stamkos, there will be a few of them. Theyve matured, theyve put their time in and theyre elite players in the league. "So its somewhat of a changing of the guard. Theres always been some transition where guys were on the cusp of breaking in at previous Olympics and for various reasons they werent selected, and its time to move them in." Some names on the list were a surprise, like Travis Hamonic who has been solid on defence for the New York Islanders, or Boston super-pest Brad Marchand, not to mention the Bruins bruising winger Milan Lucic. There will be debate over some names left off the list, including 41-year-old goalie Martin Brodeur, who was on the four previous Olympic teams with NHL player participation, or 36-year-old winger Jarome Iginla, who played in the last three Games. Iginla made the decisive pass to Crosby on the overtime goal that clinched gold in Vancouver. Also left out were Dalllas forward Jamie Benn, goalies Cam Ward of Carolina and James Reimer of Toronto, and Edmonton defenceman Justin Schultz. Calgary Flames Shirts. Players can still play their way onto the team by performing well in the first half of the 2013-14 NHL campaign. Goaltending will be an issue, as Luongo was dropped to second string status with Vancouver last season, only to get back the No. 1 job when the Canucks dealt Cory Schneider to New Jersey. "With the changes made in Vancouver, I would assume that (Luongo) will play a lot in the first half of the season, which will bode well for Canada and for Robertos hopes of being on this team," said Yzerman. Other goalies invited were Corey Crawford, fresh off leading Chicago to a Stanley Cup, Montreals Carey Price, Phoenixs Mike Smith and a surprise -- Washingtons inexperienced Braden Holtby. The defence will be another puzzle, if only because Canada is loaded with top-quality rearguards who shoot right-handed. Four incumbents shoot right -- Boyle, Doughty, Weber and Seabrook -- while only Keith shoots left. Other top candidates who shoot right include Norris Trophy winner P.K. Subban of Montreal, Alex Pietrangelo of St. Louis and Kris Letang of Pittsburgh. The lefties include Marc Staal of the New York Rangers, Toronto captain Dion Phaneuf, Ottawas Marc Methot and Vancouvers Dan Hamhuis. Yzerman said he favours having an equal balance of right and-left-handed shots on defence, although it is not cast in stone. And he noted the high-powered Soviet teams of the 1970s and 1980s had all left-hand shots. But Babcock also likes a balance, which could be bad news for younger righty blueliners. "The best eight will be in the squad and then well decide who plays with who," he said. "But when I look at the group, the veterans of last time and the young players coming in, it looks like theres a chance to have a balance. "But well watch until the end of the December and see who are the best to help us succeed." Teams must announce rosters by Dec. 31. As with every Canadian Olympic squad, there will be centres forced to play on the wing by a glut of talent down the middle. Eric Staal and Giroux are among those who may be moved to the wings. A difference from previous summer camps is that players almost certainly wont go on the ice in Calgary, as it would cost Hockey Canada up to $1 million in insurance. The U.S. team wont skate at its camp in August for the same reason. Instead, one day will be for media and administrative things like going over travel plans and arrangements for families. The rest will spent learning the team system of play and watching video, with time out for team-building activities -- perhaps some golf or a barbecue. The Chicago Blackhawks have the most players invited with five, followed by the Pittsburgh Penguins with four and Boston, Los Angeles and Washington with three each. Other defencemen invited were Karl Alzner, Jay Bouwmeester, Mike Green and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. The other forwards are Jeff Carter, Logan Couture, Matt Duchene, Chris Kunitz, Andrew Ladd, James Neal, Patrick Sharp, Jordan Staal and Martin St. Louis. The team also announced that the coaching staff from Vancouver would return, including assistants Ken Hitchcock and Lindy Ruff, but with Bostons Claude Julien replacing Jacques Lemaire. "Mike and his staff did an outstanding job in 2010 in Vancouver," said Yzerman. "That was the easiest decision and the right decision to make in this case. Im 100 per cent confident that with our coaching staff well be prepared." The announcement by Hockey Canada came days after an agreement was reached to have NHL players participate at the Sochi Games. Canada opens the Games on Feb. 13 against Norway. ' ' '

    • SAN DIEGO -- As the innings mount, Paul Clemens fastball diminishes. Wholesale Red Wings Jerseys .That problem arose again Tuesday when the Boston Red Sox beat Clemens and the San Diego Padres. He has a precipitous drop off in velocity, Padres manager Andy Green said. Hes at 94-95 (mph) in the first three innings then its 86-91 in the fourth and fifth. While the Padres scuffled the Red Sox were clicking. Jackie Bradley Jr. and Chris Young homered and Clay Buchholz pitched 6-plus solid innings.Buchholz (6-10) was making his first start since Aug. 23 as his last three appearances came out of the bullpen. Working exclusively from the stretch, Buchholz allowed a run, eight hits and struck out six in facing the Padres for the first time.Clemens was starting against the Red Sox for the first time as well. And at first, he looked good. Then the batters got another look at him and Clemens turned passive.Ive just got to be more aggressive, he said. I feel like Im right there, about to turn the corner and get into the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. But then I have a hiccup.Green said its imperative Clemens finds the answer to his declining velocity. If he cant, then hell be working out of the bullpen, Green said. But he has the stuff.Clemens said its more about his head than his right arm.I think its mental, he said. I just took my foot off the pedal. The Red Sox lead the majors in runs but had scored just once in their past two games, both losses. Previous to that in three straight wins, they had collected 35 runs.Neither team scored in the first three innings or in the last four. But the Red Sox notched five runs in the middle innings for their 16th win in their last 25 games. The Padres threatened in the seventh, when Oswaldo Arcia and Luis Sardinas singled. But Buchholz struck out pinch-hitter Jon Jay and Travis Jankowski before being relieved by Matt Barnes to face Wil Myers. Barnes got Myers to expand outside the zone for another strikeout to quell the rally.Joe Kelly, the third Red Sox reliever, pitched the ninth.Boston chased Clemens in the fifth when he wasnt able to record an out. Xander Bogaerts, Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez hit consecutive singles, with Ramirezs scoring Bogaerts. Youngs RBI grounder made it 5-1.Clemens (2-5) was charged with five runs and nine hits over four innings. He struck out three and walked three in dropping his third straight start.Ryan Schimpf snapped an 0-for-15 skid when he hit a fourth-inning homer, his 17th, to pull the Padres within 3-1.In the fourth inning, just after pitching coach Darren Balsley paid his starter a visit, Bradley smashed a two-run homer, which scored Sandy Leon who opened the inning with a bunt single. Young extended Bostons lead to 3-0 when he went back-to-back with Bradley, hitting his eighth homer and second in two games.Thats a good lineup, Clemens said. They dont miss mistakes.TRAINERS ROOMRed Sox: RHP Steve Wright got a second opinion on his sore right shoulder on Tuesday, which confirmed there was no structural damage and that he is suffering from bursitis. Manager John Farrell said theres no timetable for Wrights return.Padres: Activated Jay (fractured right forearm) from the 60-day DL.UP NEXT:Red Sox: LHP David Price (14-8, 3.92) caps the three-game series in San Diego. Price has a five-start winning streak and has allowed but eight runs in 35 innings over that span.Padres: RHP Jarred Cosart (0-2, 5.14) has allowed one earned run or less in four of his six Padres starts since coming over in a seven-player trade with Miami in July. Red Wings Jerseys 2020 . While Bombayla was beaten 6-2 by Alejandra Valencia of Mexico, Deepika failed to take a set off second-ranked Tan Ya-Ting of Chinese Taipei, losing 6-0.Bombayla came under pressure by firing a 7 in her first shot of the first set, which Valencia went on to win 28-26 with some consistent scoring. In the next set, Bombaylas second shot was an 8. Valencia responded with a second shot of 7, allowing the Indian to close out the set 26-23.Bombayla began the third set with 10, which led to a similar response from Valencia. The 21-year-old Mexican benefitted from an erratic third shot from Bombayla to take the third set 28-27.Needing a set to bring herself back into reckoning, Bombayla fired 6 -- her poorest score of the match -- to begin the fourth set, but there was no let-up from Valencia, as she won the fourth set 25-23.Earlier, Deepika Kumari failed to become the first Indian to enter the quarterfinals in Olympics archery, in the face of some consistent archery from her higher-ranked opponent.Tan shot a sequence of a 10 and two 9s to take the opening set 28-27 as Deepika could only respond with 9,8 and 10.The second set began with Deepika firing an 8, to which Tan responded with 9. • Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is refusing to believe victory at Aberdeen on Saturday will see the race for the Scottish Premiership title all-but over. China Jerseys 2021 . The Hoops head to Pittodrie with a seven-point cushion - and a game in hand - over their closest rivals following their 4-0 victory over Ross County on Wednesday evening. The previous night saw the Dons slip to a shock 1-0 defeat against Hamilton at New Douglas Park but Rodgers, who made eight changes for the trip to Dingwall, is taking nothing for granted ahead of the Sky Live showdown. Speaking exclusively to Sky Sports News HQ, the Northern Irishman said: Irrespective of the result on Saturday there is still a long way to go in the season. Brendan Rodgers says there is a long way to go no matter what the result at Aberdeen We have made a terrific start playing at a really high level with a tempo to our game. We have players who are improving all the time and hopefully the teams performance will improve over the course of the season.Others may be looking at it (being all over) but we dont. For me it is always about the next game coming up and can we take the confidence of our start into that game. The next game now is Aberdeen. We know it will be tough for us but we expect that and it is one we are looking forward to.And Rodgers says he had no hesitation in making wholesale changes to his side for the midweek trip to Dingwall, insisting he has the utmost confidence in any player he drafts into his squad. Patrick Roberts scores the opener against Ross County after being recalled to the starting XI Following the Betfred Cup semi-final victory over Rangers at Hampden last Sunday, Rodgers chose to rest a number of first-team players including Tom Rogic, Kieran Tierney, Jozo Simunovic and Scott Brown, whose wife gave birth to his third son earlier in the day. Celtic captain Scott Brown explains who deserves the credit for the clubs strong start I just felt with the games we had leading up to last night, plus the next three games after that, that it would put too much of a demand on the same players playing in those games, he said.Especially when I have very good players who havent been playing. It also gave me a chance to look at them away from home, away from the comfort of Celtic Park with 60,000 fans behind them. Roberts (second left) celebrates with Liam Henderson, Ryan Christie and Leigh Griffiths Could they cope, could they play with that intensity and pressure and they responded very, very well and it was pleasing from that respect.Leigh Griffiths and Patrick Roberts were two of the changes against County and Rodgers admits both enhanced their chances of a return to first-team football following spells out through injury.Roberts, on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season, opened the scoring and had a hand in the other three goals, while Griffiths was a constant threat to the home defence for most of the evening. Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths vying for starting berth up front against Aberdeen Asked if there is a danger of Griffiths trying too hard to score and force his way back into the side, Rodgers added: No, he doesnt have to do that and I have said that to him.He started the season brilliantly before he got injured and came out of the team. • MASON, Ohio -- Dont let the sun and the sand and the beach party atmosphere fool you: An Olympian is an athlete first, even when shes wearing a bikini. Ray Nitschke Super Bowl Jersey .While covering beach volleyball at two Summer Games, I heard plenty about the sex appeal of the sport, with the skimpy suits worn by the women attracting most of the attention. I knew there was much more to it, but it wasnt until I got on a court with an Olympic gold medalist that I understood just what makes the sport so difficult: Its the sand itself -- slowing every step, cutting short every jump and conspiring with the beating sun to wear down even the fittest bodies.Or even one belonging to a fortysomething sports writer.During a professional tour event outside Cincinnati this spring, I had a chance to hit the ball around with two-time Olympian and 2008 gold medalist Todd Rogers. Aptly nicknamed The Professor, Rogers is the coach at Cal Poly, where he took over a team that had won one match in each of its previous two seasons and led it to an 11-12 record in his first year. This would prove to be an even bigger challenge.I gave Rogers and his teammate, Robbie Page, a ride over to the practice facility that was the warmup area for players in the AVP Cincinnati Open, the last American stop for the FIVB tour before the close of Olympic qualification. Page, at 7-feet tall, could barely avoid kissing his knees in my midsized rental car.Rogers asked if I had ever played volleyball before, and I told him I had hit the ball around enough to know what I was supposed to do, if not how to do it. But my limited experience in a gym class on a hardwood basketball court did not prepare me to play outdoors, on the sand.Rogers started out by just tossing the ball over the net to me, under-handed, and that proved easy enough; I was able to return a few serves back to him, and pass most others to where my partner would be waiting. Then he stepped back and lofted some easy serves in my direction, and I really figured out what makes the sport so challenging.First there was the movement of the ball, which from a skillful server comes in like a knuckleball in baseball, darting around and confounding any attempt to hit it squarely. The wind also plays a part; many times I thought I had the ball lined up, only to see it drift off course. The hardest part, though, proved to be just moving around. While I lacked the spatial judgment and reaction time of the elite athletes on the courts next to me, even when I correctly determined where to go to hit the ball it just took me too long to get there. I seemed to be moving in slow motion in the 16-inch layer of sand, like in those movies where the sound didnt quite sync up with the actors lips.As Rogers began to speed up his serves -- though still closer to batting practice than full-speed -- more often than not the ball would bounce past me for an ace or, if I was lucky, carom wildly off my increasingly reddening forearms onto a nearby court. On one serve, I didnt even bother. Instead, I watched the ball bounce off the sand a few feet away, turned back to Rogers and said: That was my partners. (This is an old stand-by in beach volleyball, so common it has a name: The husband and wife.)My only problem: I didnt have a partner.Still, Rogers was impressed at how quickly I was picking up the excuses, if not the actual skills.Afterward, he told me some of the things I was doing wrong.Although much of it was due to physical shortcomings, I was also awaiting the serves with my hands together, ready to pass. A pro -- actually, pretty much everyone -- knows that its easier to move with his arms free and only lock them when the ball clears the net. (Young players who make this mistake are often told to run laps around the court with their hands locked, to remind them how much more difficult it is.)I thanked Rogers for the lesson and wished him luck in the tournament. Later that day, I bumped into him back at the venue, where a fan was hoping for a picture with him. I offered to take it.Youre really doing it all, he said, running through the tasks he had witnessed that day: Driver, writer, photographer. And beach volleyball player, too, I reminded him.Nah, he said, better leave that off the list.---Jimmy Golen has covered Olympic beach volleyball for The Associated Press since 2008. LAS VEGAS -- Alabama was staring at a 2/3 record with just under five minutes left against Saint Louis.Trailing by nine, Alabama didnt panic -- and the Billikens seemingly did -- on Wednesday night.Brandon Key hit two 3-pointers and a free throw in a 17-3 game-ending run and the Crimson Tide rallied for a 62-57 win at the MGM Grand Main Event consolation game.We were scrambling all game. Our shots werent falling in the first half, Alabama coach Avery Johnson said. We had so many wide open looks. That run to end the game was a byproduct of the way we played the game offensively and defensively. The ball moved. We went small. Thats a lineup we havent gone to this year.Key, who went 3 of 4 from behind the arc, led the way for Alabama (3-2).We didnt want to go home with two losses and be under .500, said Key, whose team lost to Valparaiso Monday. This was a big game for us. This shows we can comeback. A lot of guys made big plays. We never should have put ourselves in that situation. After building a 54-45 lead with just over five minutes left, the Billikens (2-3) seemed in control with their largest advantage of the game. From there, hardly anything went right. At the end of a close game, which team will make all the big plays, Saint Louis coach Travis Ford said. (Alabama) made all the big plays. Execution late was not good for us. Shots selection will be addressed. We had plays we were going to. Part of winning is how to win. We have to do it together. The Billikens had a chance to take the lead in the final 15 seconds, trailing 58-57, but Mike Crawford stepped on the right baseline just before driving to the basket. On Alabammas next possession, Corban Collins was fouled and hit two free throws, making it 60-57. Clay Matthews Super Bowl Jersey. Reggie Agbeko had 10 points and 10 rebounds. There were seven lead changes and five ties in the first half as Saint Louis led for the majority. The Billikens had the halfs largest advantage at 27-22 before the Crimson Tide scored the next five. Saint Louis led 30-29 at halftime as Alabama shot 2 of 12 from 3-point range. With the exception of a brief one-point Alabama lead, the Billikens led for the first 15 minutes of the second half -- with its largest lead at 54-45 with 5:25 left on a Johnson 3-pointer. But the Crimson Tide answered with two 3-pointers.What a way to finish the game, Johnson said. We had a lot of fight. Our guys didnt give up. Huge plays from all of our guys. We made our free throws. • STANFORD, Calif. Larry Johnson Super Bowl Jersey . -- Stanford coach David Shaw?has named Ryan Burns the starting quarterback for the season opener. The redshirt junior had been locked in an even battle with redshirt sophomore Keller Chryst this offseason in a quest to replace Kevin Hogan, the winningest quarterback in program history.Shaw said that Chryst will also see some action when the Cardinal open their season at home on Sept. 2 against Kansas State.Ryan Burns will start and play a good chunk of the game, Shaw said. Keller Chryst will play as well. Were going to play both guys and try to win a game. But Burns will be Stanfords starter and is expected to see the majority of playing time. There hasnt been a huge separation between the two, Shaw said. Both guys have played extremely well. Ryan has just barely been enough ahead to get the nod. Both Burns and Chryst check in at 6-foot-5 and about 235 pounds, which is a build similar to that of former Stanford star QB?Andrew Luck?-- whom Shaw considers the physical prototype for the position.Burns and Chryst say that throughout their competition theyve watched film of Luck and Hogan, with the goal of emulating the strengths of those two onetime Stanford starters.Burns and Chryst have already taken at least one page from the playbook of their predecessors: Even as quarterbacks, they both enjoy the contact aspect of football, making them natural fits for Stanfords rugged offense in at least one way.We both enjoy hitting people, Burns said.Since Chryst was the first quarterback off the bench to relieve Hogan last season, some might consider Shaws selection of Burns as a moderate surprise. But the coach insisted the two were closely matched even last year, and that Burns has required some extra time to acclimate to Stanfords pro-style offense after running the triple-option in high school. His high school offense was very different from what we do, Shaw said. We knew when we recruited him that we were going to ask him to do things hes never done before. ... We knew he had the tools, but theres a lot of muscle memory in what we do. So we had to build up the reserve of experience.Burns, who is entering his fourth year on campus, said hes more comfortable with Stanfords system than ever before. Its been a long process, he said. There were no checks, no three-play calls in my high school offense. Ive been trying to get adapted over the past three years. But the toughness and downhill running that I learned in high school has carried over.Shaw called Burns and Chryst into his office on Wednesday morning to share his decision, emphasizing that Chryst would rotate in for some series against Kansas State.I just took that as, I still have to compete, Burns said. Nothing is solidified. Just because Im playing the first snap doesnt mean Im the starting quarterback for the year at all. Kellers a heck of a quarterback, and hell always be on my tail and Ill always be on his. I just have to come here and keep working my butt off every day.Stanford opens the season with a particularly challenging stretch of schedule -- games against USC, UCLA, Washington, Washington State and Notre Dame follow the opener versus Kansas State. For that reason, Shaw said hell need full productivity out of Burns from the get-go. The coach emphasized that early over-reliance on other offensive veterans like RB?Christian McCaffrey could doom the Cardinal. We need him to play quarterback, Shaw said. This is big-time college football. Were not spoon-feeding anybody. Travis Kelce Super Bowl Jersey . Jordan Lynch, the all-purpose Heisman Trophy finalist from Northern Illinois, failed to make it into that exclusive club. COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Johnny Football is practicing with Texas A&M. Whether he starts the season opener is another question. Coach Kevin Sumlin on Monday said he would not speculate when asked if Johnny Manziel will be his starter on Aug. 31 against Rice following an ESPN report that the NCAA is investigating whether the Heisman Trophy winner was paid for signing hundreds of autographs last January. "Theres a lot of people involved in that decision," Sumlin said without being specific. If Manziel was paid for his autograph on memorabilia, it could potentially violate NCAA amateurism rules and put his eligibility in question a year after his jaw-dropping performance on the field made him the first freshman to win the Heisman as college footballs top player. Speaking to the media as the team began preseason practices, Sumlin said he learned of the ESPN report Sunday. For now, Manziel will lead the Aggies. But his coach is clearly thinking of backups, too. "Hell get as many reps as he was going to get yesterday," Sumlin said of Manziel, before adding: "Weve got to develop a backup quarterback no matter what." The report is just the latest in a string of off-the-field distractions caused by Manziel. Hes made headlines for tweeting that he "cant wait to leave College Station," despite having three years of eligibility remaining, he allegedly overslept at a football camp run by the Manning family and was supposedly kicked out of a University of Texas fraternity party in the past couple of months. The 20-year-old sophomore calmly answered question after question at SEC media days last month, acknowledging his eventful off-season and indicating he needed to make better decisions because hes such a public figure. "I dont feel like Ive done anything thats catastrophic," Manziel said then. "Of course, Ive made my mistakes. Its time to grow up." Last week, Manziel tweeted: "I aint perfect, I aint insane but I AM worth it...if theres one thing I am worth it." The antics have overshadowed what is expected to be a banner year for Texas A&M. The Aggies are coming off an 11-2 record in their first season in the SEC after moving from the Big 12, a year highlighted by Manziel leading Texas A&M to an upset win at No. 1 Alabama. The rematch in Coollege Station is Sept. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif Super Bowl Jersey. 14. But instead of answering questions about his expectations for the season, Sumlin was left to respond to question after question about Manziel. "Ive been through different things," Sumlin said. "As a coach when those things happen, its not what happens to you, its how you deal with it. Weve got a veteran staff that knows how to deal with different situations." Manziels teammates seem unfazed by his recent trouble and said that nothing has changed in the way they view their quarterback. "He still has all leadership qualities he displayed last year, hes being more vocal now, hes taking on more of the leadership responsibilities," running back Ben Malena said. "The off the field issues doesnt bother us not one bit when it comes to a team aspect." Manziel and the rest of the Aggies had their first practice late Monday afternoon. If the problems were weighing on Manziel, it was hard to tell by watching him on the field. He laughed and talked with teammates before they lined up to stretch. The Aggies practice to music and when the first song of the day, the track "Versace" by Migos featuring Manziels buddy rapper Drake came on, the quarterback looked carefree as he bobbed his head and bounced to the catchy tune. The media were only allowed to watch the first 20 minutes of practice and there were no full team drills during that time. Manziel threw a few passes while the quarterbacks and receivers worked alone on a section of the field surrounded by dozens of reporters. While Sumlin is working through the Manziel situation, he noted that a much more difficult task was talking to his team about the recent death of defensive lineman Polo Manukainiu, who was killed in a New Mexico car crash along with two others. "It was not an easy topic," Sumlin said. "Its one of the hardest things a coach has to deal with. In a way getting back together as a group and getting back in the routine, going out on the field today, somehow that might help. Because these guys share the same kind of emotions the same kind of feelings for a guy that they cared very, very deeply about." He also said starting defensive tackle Kirby Ennis, who was arrested in February on a weapons charge, will be suspended for the Rice game. ' ' '

The hosts of the radio program were discussing how traveling has regularly gone unpunished in recent years, and Kerr used the opportunity to call out a missed travel call on Raptors All-Star DeMar DeRozan.Speaking of which, did you enjoy the DeMar DeRozan foray to the rim last night? Kerr asked. How is it that everybody on earth can see these traveling violations except for the three people that we pay to do the job? I dont get it. Its bizarre. ... But I can literally put together a blooper reel of plays that are embarrassing travels that are just not called. The play in question was when DeRozan took four steps to get to the basket and no whistles were blown.Kerr later said: Its a case of they have so many things to look at. They are looking at defensive three seconds, theyre looking at contact in the lane when people are cutting through. They are looking at the charge and block circle. They are looking at everything except what they should be looking at, which is the basic rule of the game: which is traveling. Its a shame. Guys are getting away with murder out there. And fans see it. My favorite is when you see the visiting team travel and you see like a 1,000 fans in the background all doing the traveling signal with their hands. If those people saw it, how come the refs didnt? The Warriors beat the Raptors 127-121. Stitched Avalanche Jerseys . Klitschkos management company says the bout will be the Ukrainian fighters 25th world championship fight. The 1.83-meter (6-foot) Leapai defeated the previously unbeaten Denis Boytsov in November to become the WBOs mandatory challenger. Wholesale Avalanche Jerseys . Denis Coderre, the former federal MP who was elected mayor on Nov. 3, has drawn the ire of some Montreal Canadiens. During last nights game he tweeted: "Hello? Can we get a one-way ticket to (minor-league) Hamilton for David Desharnais please. https://www.cheapavalanche.com/ . Jeff Green scored 13 points and Kris Humphries 12 for the Celtics, who nearly blew an 18-point, second-half lead. Sullingers 20-20 was the first by a Celtics player since Kevin Garnetts first game in Boston in 2007. Garnett was dealt -- along with Paul Pierce -- to Brooklyn during the off-season. It almost seems like yesterday when SK Telecom T1 thwarted South Korean rival ROX Tigers to win the 2015 Summoners Cup and establish itself as the first true global dynasty in League of Legends. Dont look now, but the summer regular season is wrapping up for all five of the major regions, and were only two short months away from beginning the next all-out war for the world title. So who looks locked in to take part in the biggest tournament of the year, and which teams still need to do?heavy lifting if they want to make it?North AmericaAlmost Lock(s): Team SoloMidIts good to be a TSM fan, isnt it? With the top seed in this splits playoffs, no team in North America is as close to reaching Worlds as TSM (17-1 record). The quickest way for TSM to lock up its sixth straight trip to Worlds would be if CLG falls before the finals and SoloMid advances to its unheard of eighth straight domestic final. And as long as Cloud9 takes care of business in the semifinals vs. slumping Team Envy, CLGs only path to the finals would be through TSM in the final four.On the Bubble: Immortals, Counter Logic GamingIf you were to bet on the three teams to go to Worlds today from NA, the safest choices would be TSM, Immortals, and CLG. TSM is ahead of the pack with a lot of circuit points, Immortals won third place last season and are sitting in the semifinals following a bye, and CLG have 90 circuit points from winning the league last split in Las Vegas, Nevada. For Counter Logic, getting to the finals would ensure them a trip to the Worlds Championships. Immortals, on the other hand, will need to hope CLG or TSM falter in the playoffs if it wants to qualify from points. But as the second place team in the regular season and last splits regular season champions, Immortals will be looking for the domestic title and an auto-qualification into the tournament.Outside Looking In: Team Liquid, Cloud9These two teams will need to make the finals if they want to avoid the North American Regionals and make it into Worlds without going through the gauntlet. TL finished fourth last split while C9 fell in the quarterfinals. While the points favor TL, the bracket is on the side of Cloud9, who faces Team Envy in the first round while Liquid faces CLG.Hail Mary: Team EnvyThe only team statistically left able to make Worlds from NA, Team Envy will need a Hail Mary run if it wants to make Worlds. Put simply, Envy either needs to upset Cloud9, TSM, and then the team in the finals to get an auto-qualification, or it needs to run the gauntlet in the North American Regional Finals to make it in. Fortunately for them, Cloud9 was in the same Hail Mary position Envy sits currently. Likely to happen again? No. Theoretically possible? Hey, it happened last year.EuropeAlmost Lock(s): G2 EsportsG2, outside of maybe the two teams in South Korea, are the closest to a sure thing when it comes to making Worlds. The champions of Europe last split came back this season with a regular season title. Atop of all that, its closest competitor in circuit points, Origen, fell off a cliff this split, is in relegations, and lost all of its circuit points from spring. G2 is 40 circuit points up on the next European team in Fnatic, and it will play the lowest seed come the semifinals. On the Bubble: N/AOutside Looking In: Fnatic, H2K Gaming, Splyce, Unicorns of Love, Giants GamingSure, purely based on statistics, Fnatic and H2K have an edge due to spring circuit points, but unlike NA where three teams are frontrunners, its a crapshoot for the final two spots in Europe. H2K and Fnatic, the two teams with the most circuit points, are playing in the quarterfinals against each other, and Splyce, the second best performing team in Europe with a bye in the first round, enters with 0 circuit points from spring. While G2 should waltz its way to Worlds, its anyones game when it comes to taking the final two spots. The winner of Fnatic and H2K will be in a good position going into the semifinals, but neither team has been consistent enough to be put in the On the Bubble category. Out of all the playoff and Road to World races across the five major regions, Europes should be the most fun to watch.Hail Mary: N/ASouth Korea:Almost Lock(s): ROX Tigers, SK Telecom T1Unlike other regions where the playoffs are more spread out, South Korea has a straightforward approach to its postseason. The top team is rewarded with a berth straight into the playoff finals, second place in the semifinals, third in the quarterfinals, and the fourth and fifth place teams battling it out in a wild card match to decide wholl play the third place team in the quarters. Both the Tigers and SKT T1, the runners-up and champion of last years World Championships, are almost locks to make it back to the event this year. SKT T1 won the spring split while ROX came in second, and this split ROX is holding on barely to the first place position with SKT T1 right on its tail. If ROX can finish first in the regular season and make the finals, the Tigers will qualify for Worlds through either winning the domestic title or coming in first when it comes to circuit points. For SK Telecom T1, currently second in the league and first in circuit points at 90, its in the same position as ROX. Even if T1 plays inn the semifinals or quarterfinals instead of directly going to the final match, itll still make the World Championships if it can get to the finals. Avalanche Jerseys China. On the Bubble: KT RolsterThe only team that can break up ROX and SKT T1 going directly to Worlds is -- unless, of course, someone like Samsung or the Freecs win the entire season -- KT, who are currently seated in the third place position this split with only one week left remaining. While its likely SKT T1 and ROX will go through as the automatic qualifiers, KT Rolster should be at top of the king-of-the-hill style gauntlet that will decide the third South Korean team to go to Worlds. The most likely scenario is KT Rolster in a best-of-five against either Afreeca, Samsung, or Jin Air to make the World Championships.Outside Looking In: Samsung GalaxySamsung could be the team that disrupts the South Korean Big 3 of SKT, KT, and the Tigers. It doesnt possess the circuit points to make it to Worlds without winning the gauntlet, but Samsung will be a dangerous opponent for anyone in the last chance qualifier attempting to make Worlds. At the moment, KT vs. Samsung appears to be the battle that wont only decide third place, but also show us who will join T1 and the Tigers.Hail Mary: Afreeca Freecs, Jin Air Green Wings, MVPNone of these teams should be expected to make the World Championships. The team with the best chance realistically, Afreeca, has been able to consistently beat the world champions SK Telecom T1 but lose to teams below them in the standings. Itll be a huge surprise if any of these three clubs get close to the World Championships this year.ChinaAlmost Lock(s): EDward Gaming, Royal Never Give UpThe two top teams from last split are again atop of the standings this split. While RNG has stumbled a bit in the past week or so, it still holds the most circuit points due to winning the spring season, and if it can win its last two regular season matches vs. LGD and I May, itll directly go into the semifinals of the LPL summer playoffs. On the other side, EDG is unbeaten this season, got second place in the playoffs last split, and are sitting in the semifinals with all the momentum in the world to march back into the World Championships for the third straight year.On the Bubble: Team WESimilar to South Korea, we have two teams ahead of the pack and a third team slightly below them. The difference is Team WE might be the second best team in China at the present behind EDG, and it still has a shot of winning its group over RNG if things shake out in the final week of regular season play. Still, even if Team WE cant surpass RNG in the regular season, Team WE are in the right form to make a deep run in the playoffs, and due to making the semifinals last split, should be in a great position to advance.Outside Looking In: Snake, I May, Newbee, Vici Gaming, Game TalentsThese are teams with all varying chances of going to Worlds based on how they do in the playoffs. Newbee, formerly Qiao Gu, has the most circuit points of the bunch for making the semifinals last split, but are 5-10 and could even be passed up by Invictus Gaming if things go south in the final week of regular season play. Out of all these teams, Group As Snake has the best chance to snatch the final ticket to Worlds from Team WE.Hail Mary: Invictus Gaming, LGD GamingBoth of these teams made Worlds last year, and now both will need help just to have a chance to make it back this year. LGD, who looks like a contender once more with the return of starting mid laner Wei We1less Zhen, will need to beat RNG this week and get help from Vici Gaming slipping up to even make the summer playoffs. It could be just too little too late for LGD and Invictus.Taiwan:Almost Lock(s): N/AOn the Bubble: J Team, Flash Wolves, Ahq E-Sports ClubIn our final region, Taiwan operates differently from the other four. Only two clubs make it to Worlds instead of three. Plus, since there is only two teams going, only the champion of the summer season and the winner of the Taiwan Regional Finals go to Worlds, which means no team can directly get through with circuit points. That being said, there are no locks or even Almost Locks for Taiwan. We have three teams in J Team, Flash Wolves, and Ahq with the ability to make it to the World Championships and two plane tickets to America.Currently, J Team leads the summer regular season, but it plays Ahq in the final week and is only up a few points against its rivals. Its a three-way battle for the regular season title, domestic championship, and Regional Finals berth to Worlds, and itd be a stunning turn of events if two of these three teams dont make Worlds from Taiwan.Outside Looking In: N/AHail Mary: Machi E-Sports, Hong Kong Esports, Midnight Sun EsportsHong Kong Esports has the best shot of sneaking in to take away one of the two slots from Taiwans titan trio, but I dont see it happening unless something gigantic happens in the next few weeks. Ahq, Flash Wolves, and the former Taipei Assassins, J Team, have owned the Taiwanese region since its inception, and itd take a reversal of the ages to change that narrative. ' ' '

    • DeMar DeRozan has been on an impressive run for the Toronto Raptors. Air Max 270 Pink White . The 27-year-old guard out of USC has averaged 33.7 points on 52 percent shooting to kick off the season.Even more impressive is that DeRozan is averaging more than nine free throw attempts a game, which is putting opposing defenses in trouble.DeMar DeRozan? Hes mine. Hes ours. He belongs to the Raptors, Toronto coach Dwayne Casey told NBA.com. Hes been great, hes been a great leader, his approach has been very professional. But hes been superb, and we just gotta make sure we continue with a defensive focus. When Toronto travels to Oklahoma City on Wednesday to take on the surging Thunder, DeRozan will be the responsibility of guard Andre Roberson. At 6-foot-7, 210 pounds, Roberson has the height and length to bother DeRozans shot and the athletic ability to keep in front of him and out of the lane.Hes hot, Roberson said of DeRozan. Hes come out with a lot of confidence this year. We are just going to do our best to come out there and shut him down a little bit, get in our coverages, get back in transition, stick a hand in his face. I think well be ready. The Raptors head into the game coming off a loss to Sacramento on Sunday night. It was a game in which the Kings DeMarcus Cousins pummeled Torontos interior defense to the tune of 22 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots.Toronto was without Jonas Valanciunas, who had a left knee contusion. He has not been ruled out against Oklahoma City.If Valanciunas is unable to go, that leaves rookies Jakob Poeltl and Pascal Siakam to deal with the Thunder frontline of Steven Adams, Enes Kanter and Domantas Sabonis. The trio combined for 45 points and 26 points Monday in a win over Miami. But it was their ability to protect the rim that impressed Thunder coach Billy Donovan the most.We had great length at the basket. I thought Stevens length at the basket, Jeramis (Grant) length at the basket, Domantas at times, Donovan said. We had length at the basket, which really helped alter some shots. Numbers wise, it looks like a great defensive night. Overall, I think our defense continues to get better.Oklahoma City is fourth in the NBA in defensive efficiency at 94.6 points allowed per 100 possessions. The starting five is even better at 92.3.Its one of the reasons Oklahoma City has been able to rest its starters in back-to-back games.Great, man, great. If I could do that all year, that would be great with me, Russell Westbrook said. Rest is always good, but its always good to see that were doing a good job putting teams away early. Were doing a good job of coming out and being defense-minded.The Raptors will need more than DeRozan to break through the stifling Oklahoma City defense.Weve got to shoot the ball better, Raptors guard Kyle Lowry told Raptors.com. Thats not a concern, I just think we have to find a way to make the shots. Weve got to shoot more and get in the gym and shoot even more, get even more extra shots up. But well see what happens. I think our confidence is there. Air Max 270 React Discount . President of baseball operations Larry Beinfest was fired Friday after 12 years with the Marlins. The move came as the team neared the end of its third consecutive last-place season in the NL East. Air Max 270 Womens . Parker had 26 points and eight assists and San Antonio beat Toronto 112-99 Monday night. "We won that game because of Tony Parkers aggressiveness," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. Lack made 20 saves for his third shutout of the season as the Canucks blanked the St. Louis Blues 1-0 in the first post-Olympic game for both teams night. You might think you could already find out everything you want to know about Cameron Maybin, but we still had a few things to ask the Detroit Tigers?center fielder.Who was your favorite player growing up? Maybin: Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Cameron,?cuz they were the most exciting two guys to watch when I was coming up. I felt like they played great defense, they both had great bodies. [I] was almost in awe of how they looked, ya know? Mike Cameron, especially. And again too, as a young African-American, you kind of gravitate towards the African-American and black guys that were playing. Those guys were my two favorites, hands down.Who is your favorite player to watch today (not a teammate)? Maybin: Martin Prado, I always say. I love watching him play the game. He just plays the game right. He never takes a pitch off. Never takes an at-bat off. Always runs things out, ya know. Hes a professional. Joe Mauer, the same way. I just love the way they respect the game, and you can see it in the way they play.Who is your most underrated teammate? Maybin: Underrated? I guess Ive gotta say [Ian] Kinsler. This guy should get way more love than he gets.?Everybody knows he can play, but I dont think he gets the credit he deserves, especially as a teammate goes. Air Max 270 Hot Punch. . Guys just a great guy to be around every day.Whats the most annoying question you are asked by the media?Maybin: Annoying? Getting asked a question about Miggy not hitting a homer or something in a week. Its like, this guy -- were talking about Miguel Cabrera. That question is kinda annoying. One rule you would change? Maybin: The whole getting fined for stepping out of the box. You get little fines and warnings for the whole time-limit stuff. Its bogus. You get like a warning, but its something natural, if youve been doing it for years. I mean, we voted on it, as a whole, but I think thats kind of bogus.Who is ultimately responsible for policing the game? Players, manager, umpires, league? Maybin: I think its a combination. How big of a problem are?performance-enhancing drugs?in todays game? Maybin: It looks like its starting to clean up right now pretty good. It doesnt seem to be a big problem right now, at least in my opinion. What is something that people dont know about you or have wrong about you? Maybin: I dont know. They have Google now, so they know everything about us. ' ' '
